Chapter Fifteen

Edited by: thirtxn

I jumped at the sound of my door being opened. I peaked out from under the covers. My clock showed twelve-thirty PM. Before I could see who intruded my sleep, I felt a bag going over my head. I started thrashing around, kicking my legs as hard as I could. A couple of grunts flew out of my captor's mouth. But besides that, I had no other clue of who it was. The scratchy material of the bag was starting to give me scratches as I clawed at it. My captor kicked me and I whimpered.

"That's it!" I shouted. Rage started burning inside of me. I saw the glow of my powers and knew I would be out soon. The bag and the captor had no chance of keeping me in any longer. Boom! My powers went off and I was out. I took in my surroundings. We were almost to the edge of the kingdom. Must be a Day Kingdom citizen, I thought. Why else would they try to get me out of the Night Kingdom?

Remembering that my captor was still behind me, I spun around. I was about to attack but stopped when I saw who it was. A tear slid down my cheek. "Hope?" I barely whispered it. I didn't want to believe it. The one person that understood me. The one I could tell anything to.

"Skyler, I-I can explain," she stuttered.

"Explain what? Trying smuggle me out in the middle of the night? How do you explain that?!" I shouted at her. She looked around, as if hoping for an answer to magically appear. I continued to stare at her. Finally I had enough. I charged at her, catching her off guard. I couldn't believe I had gotten into this again. Bursts of light shot out from my hands, throwing her against the gate. She grunted, but got back up.

"Skyler, stop! Please!" she begged. I glared at her.

"I'll stop when you have an explanation." I placed my hands down on the street. Ghost like shadows leaked from my fingers and swam on the floor until they reached Hope and wrapped themselves around her. She struggled against them, but I held them strong. She started to gasp for air. I released the spirits and shot fire towards her. She fell to the ground and I heard a crack as she cried out in pain.

"Wait! I'll tell you," she gasped. I lowered my hand.

"Explain!" I demanded.

"They have my daughter. Jessica has my daughter."

"What does that have to do with this?" I asked.

"Jessica took my daughter when she was born. So she would have a replacement, in case you didn't work out. But she didn't end up having any powers. So she kept her as a punishment to her and me." She continued. "Jessica said that if I brought you to her, then I would get Mary back."

"Seriously! You made a bet with Jessica? You know how she is. You never would've gotten Mary back," I shouted. The last bits of anger flew out of me as I raised a glowing hand out of the ground that picked Hope up and threw her back down. I heard more cracks and knew several more bones had broken. "Now go!" I said. Hope got up and limped to the edge. The same golden falcon was waiting there. Before she jumped onto it, she looked back at me and mouthed the words 'sorry'.

I stood there, showing no signs of forgiveness. I watched as she let herself fall into the falcon and flew away. Once she was gone, I slid to the floor and wept until I had no more tears left.
