THIS IS A REALLY big pet peeve of mine and I see it in a lot of stories. People start out writing in one tense and then switch to another.

PAST TENSE:

Lena typed away on her phone and updated the writing tips book on the community account she was a part of.

PRESENT TENSE:
Lena types away on her phone and updates the writing tips book on the community account she is a part of.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

It is so frustrating when you see a paragraph like this:

"Richie my darling baby!" Kamryn Tamale Paprika LaCroix cried. She stretched her arms out. She wants to hug him.

"Hey hottie mcthottie," Richie states, throwing his arm around her. He just wants her to be his girlfriend. She shook him off.

"Ew rat, I hate you now." She stomped away, crying.

SEE WHAT I MEAN?

Make sure you write in one tense!
