Chapter fifteen
GIRLS WHO LISTEN TO REAL MUSIC!
❤️
Destiny linked arms with Lola after a long night of screaming Camila Cabello's lyrics at the top of their lungs. On her other side walked Giselle, rather sloppily. She couldn't say she enjoyed the concert, because all she did was watch her twin sister be the better version of herself. Emma and Penelope had already left, mainly because Penelope wanted so. She couldn't listen to Lola and Jungkook fuck any longer.
Speaking of. "So, y'all fucked?" Destiny whispered.
Giggling, "Shhh!" Lola placed her finger against her lips. She'd look at Jungkook, every now and then, out of the corner of her eye. Him, Taehyung, and Namjoon were walking slightly ahead, making fun of the concert as they did. "We did. Des, he does something to me."
Destiny could tell from the spark inside Lola's eyes. "Girl, I think that's called love."
Once again, Lola had to shush her friend. "Nuh-uh! It's not love. I guess I just- I don't know, I kind of like him. He's, you know, he's cute."
"And?" Destiny leaned in.
Lola rolled her eyes at the suggestive expression. Or course, there was more to Jungkook, like; "Alright. He's good at pleasing. Great, even."
Although her and Jungkook never did it, Destiny knew it wasn't just a hoax. He was phenomenal in the sheets, it was one of his best qualities.
"And he's just- he's just better than what I thought." Lola's lips pressed into a thin smile.
It was concerning, though, from the outside. Destiny's hate for Penelope had covered her eyes like a curtain, yet she knew Jungkook wasn't "better" than what Lola thought. In fact, he might have been worse. Destiny was almost certain he was using Lola for sex, yet another part of her wondered otherwise. Usually, Jungkook wouldn't fuck the same girl twice. He'd leave them behind like a used tissue. Even Margot couldn't get through him for a second time. She pondered on why Lola was the chosen one. Was the sex really that good?
... Or was it something beyond that?
Destiny wasn't sure. "Hm." She wiped her thoughts and smiled at her friend. "Still, if that muhfucker does somethin' you ain't like, tell me and I'll whoop his bitchass. K?"
Lola smiled. She smiled so hard her cheeks turned red. To have a friend like Destiny meant she'd always have a shoulder to cry on, even when she thinks she doesn't. "Thanks Des."
Close behind them followed Giselle, which Destiny eventually noticed. "Gigi, what's wrong? You ain't have fun?"
Giselle smiled at the two. It was clearly forced, but she was used to it, at this point. It seemed as though all of her smiles were artificial. "Just tired."
Destiny caught a glimpse of the boys walking ahead of them, specifically Namjoon. He had one hand in his pocket, and the other one thrown around Jungkook's shoulders. "It's about him, right?"
"Doesn't matter." Giselle sighed.
Lola, too, noticed it. Giselle must have been utterly in love with Namjoon, because it looked like she wasn't even breathing without him.
"Nah bro, it was ass!" Namjoon's voice echoed through the lot, distracting the girls.
Disagreeing, "It was aight." Taehyung chimed. He hit his vape, and still refused to fully admit to liking Camila Cabello, despite the music being up his street.
"Hell nah!" Namjoon, on the other hand, made it his mission to shit on any music that wasn't necessarily his style. "I only came 'cause I'm tryna make things right with Emma- now I gotta get back to the studio and cleans my ears."
In had peaked her interest. "You have a studio?" Lola questioned.
The boys came to a halt. The girls caught up, a particular smile on Lola's face.
"Yeah...?" Namjoon, unsure, cleared his throat.
Jungkook watched her squeal. His insides melting, he beamed widely. These were the moments he really resembled a bunny. It was mostly when he was around Lola. "It's a lil' garage, but it works." He shrugged.
"That is so cool!" Lola, whether out of reflex or not -nobody could tell- wrapped her arms around Jungkook's bicep. Swooning over him. "I've always wanted to be in a studio, and like, watch an artist at work!"
"Oh word?" Jungkook cocked a brow. His head immediately turned to face Namjoon, who already knew what he was thinking. "Yo hyung, should we bring the girls too?"
"Really?" Giselle and Destiny chimed in too. Faces filled with excitement, they had never been there before.
"On god we should! We could make 'em listen to some of our stuff." Taehyung was down for it, in fact, everyone was. Except for one name.
Kim Namjoon. He cleared his throat. Hands in his pockets, and eyes locked on his red haired enemy. "What this bitch know 'bout real music?"
"Watch your mouth!" Lola's smile dropped instantly. She reached over Jungkook's protective shoulder to land a punch, but alas.
"Yo chill!" Jungkook had to surpress his laughter.
Lola, with her blood boiling, "He called me a bitch!" she groaned.
"Hyung-" Jungkook then agreed it was low, and turned to his nonchalant friend. "can you fuckin' stop callin' her that shit?"
"Aight, damn." Namjoon sighed. He wasn't going to admit to it, but it did impress him. The way Lola never feared since the first moment they met. Usually, people would shiver under his intimidating and aggressive demeanor.
Giselle and Destiny were so used to it, they didn't even bother opening their mouths. Though they stood with their arms crossed, kissing their teeth.
"And besides, I know a lot about real music." Lola then added with finger quotes, and fixed her hair. It had gone messy during their bathroom break with Jungkook.
She had to be joking, Namjoon thought. He let out a mocking chuckle. "Oh swear? Watchu listen to? Ariana Grande?"
"What's wrong with Ariana?" Taehyung cocked a brow, before five pairs of eyes turned to him in surprise. He chose to hit his vape silently.
"I listen to hip-hop." Lola broke the silence.
Namjoon had to laugh. Fist covering his mouth, he had to double take before raising his brows and laughing even more. "Name one hip-hop artist."
"Nas." Lola said.
It took Namjoon a few seconds to process it. Leaning it, "Whatchu say?"
"Nas." Lola repeated.
"You mean- you mean like Lil Nas X, right?"
Shaking her head, "No, I mean Nas." Lola answered.
It wasn't necessarily shocking for a girl to listen to Nas, but to Namjoon it clearly was. "You listen to Nas?"
She nodded.
"Damn, for real?" Jungkook, too, had to make sure. They hadn't discussed their taste in music before. Though he had wondered every now and then.
"What's your favorite Nas album? And don't say Illmatic!" He pointed before Lola could open her mouth.
She snickered. "Illmatic is a good album, but 'It Was Written' has to be my favorite."
Namjoon tried his hardest not to express the slightest emotion, though inside, he was doing flips. "You for real?"
"Of course." Lola smiled widely, mainly to piss him off. "But if I'm being honest, you need to expand your taste in music because Ariana's music is incredible. If you want to be an artist, you need to stop being arrogant and explore all genres." If she had a mic, she would drop it.
Destiny snapped her fingers, "Period."
Jaw tightening, "Aight." Namjoon cleared his throat. "Let's see whatchu think of our music then, if you know so much 'bout it."
The girls clapped with excitement, as they made their way to the cars, and drive to the studio.
It was just like Jungkook had described. A little garage down a dark street. They had to cross the Brooklyn bridge to get there, which brought back recent memories. Lola thought back to their first kiss, as if it was something sacred. Maybe it was.
The place was lit with a couple lightbulbs stuck to the wall with a terrible job of nails and a hammer.
"Why's it so cold in here?" Giselle shivered.
Behind her, "You want my jacket?" Taehyung questioned. Though he regretted asking almost as immediately as Giselle's face turned down.
"No... Thanks." She faked a giggle and sat down on the torn leather couch. All they had was a cheap set-up consisting of a mic stand, the mic, and a laptop.
Lola took a seat beside her, and the next spot was instantly taken by Jungkook. He tried to play it cool by swiftly throwing an arm around her shoulders. "You cold?"
"No." Lola smiled, averting her gaze to Namjoon instead. She had been waiting her entire teen life for a moment to sit in a studio. "So, how does it usually go?"
Namjoon, although not so fond of her, answered her endless questions, and with each one, Jungkook grew more and more annoyed. She was supposed to talk to him... Not Namjoon.
"Do you make your own beats?"
"Watchu think? 'Course I do... I mean, Yoongi hyung's way better at it than me, but I ain't so bad either." It was the first time Namjoon had said something other than an insult to Lola, and in his head it felt refreshing.
Lola smiled, copying his. "Can we listen to one of your beats?"
She hadn't even noticed the way Jungkook started tapping his foot, and chewed on the plump skin around his lip ring.
"Sure." Namjoon scrolled through his beats, looking for his favourite one. He wasn't sure why, but he didn't want to embarrass himself. Lola's opinion seemed to have mattered to him in that moment. "Aye, we lowkey amateurs though, so don't be laughin' up in here or Imma kick you out."
Lola covered her giggle behind her hand. "I won't laugh if it's good."
Unconsciously, Namjoon snickered. He clicked one of his most recent creations, and as soon as the snares kicked in, his eyes searched for something of value on her face. A soft smile, a single nod, anything that could show she liked it.
Way more than expected, Lola started bopping her head to the beat. A 'stank face', although not as intense as Destiny's, had been formed. Namjoon knew all about it. His chest puffed proudly when Lola hummed in delight. "Nice."
It went on for a straight minute, until it ended.
Jungkook, the entire time, had been staring at her through the corner of his eye. While the rest enjoyed their time, he grew concerned of the sudden bond forming between Lola and Namjoon.
"Watchu think?" The oldest jotted his chin at the ginger. Deep down, he wanted her compliments.
Just as he wanted, "It sounds incredible. Reminds me of East Coast, boom bap." Lola clapped her hands softly. The other girls too, seemed to love it.
Then and there, something inside of Namjoon clicked. "Yeah, that's- that's what I was goin' for... Damn, you know 'bout allat?"
"Told you." A coy smile creeped upon her face. "I know a thing or two about music."
"Mhm." Jungkook interrupted their conversation with an obnoxiously loud hum. Eyes glaring at his older friend, before they landed back on Lola. "How 'bout Joon hyung plays you some of his older stuff, hm? What about 'Expensive Girl'?" His expression reeked of evil when he turned back to Namjoon-
-Who stood annoyed by the desk.
"On god!" Taehyung chimed. "Let's hear that masterpiece, Joonie hyung!"
Although Jungkook's intentions were to embarrass Namjoon, he did wonder what Lola's genuine reaction would be. Maybe she'd come back to her sensesand hate Namjoon again.
"Expensive Girl'?" Destiny and Giselle said in sync. "I gots to hear what that sounds like."
"Me too!" Lola's agreeing nod shifted the gears inside Namjoon's mind. His fingers unconsciously neared his laptop, flicking through his tabs until he found the recorded song. It was finished and ready to release, only, Namjoon wasn't so sure he wanted to. All six of the boys had ran it into the ground, making fun of the corny lyrics. He hesitated for a short second, before pressing play.
The moment they heard his deep voice on the track, Jungkook and Taehyung lost it. The girls, too, wanted to laugh, though the expression of near humiliation on Namjoon's face was what held them back.
Lola had recognized the song, and when the chorus kicked in, it had further solidified the familiarity.
"Take it off now girl, just take it off.
(I'm a master baby with your bra)
Take it off now girl, just take it off.
(I can help you slide those panties off)"
She nodded, putting her thumb up for Namjoon to see, while she waited for the song to end. The rest holding their laughter, "I honestly prefer this version!"
"Version?" The other four asked in sync.
Namjoon felt as though two ropes were forcing the corners of his lips apart. No matter how hard he tried, he could not stop grinning. His dimples showed so deep, his cheeks started to hurt.
Nodding, "This is a Pharrell cover!" Lola pointed. "Take It Off...? Come on, from one of his best albums!"
Namjoon could only nod, grinning wider by the second.
"Hold on-" Jungkook sat straight, hand around Lola's waist, "you tellin' me that's a Pharrell song?" He furrowed his brows at Namjoon.
The oldest one nodded.
"You ain't write it?"
"Only the rap verse!" Lola chimed. "The chorus is Pharrell's, I can't believe you guys didn't know!"
Jungkook had noticed the way Namjoon looked at Lola. He couldn't tell what it meant, though it was soft, gentle, maybe it was admiration. Either way, he cleared his throat, leaning back, "I musta not noticed." He shrugged, sniffing, trying to play it cool.
"I didn't know that, at all." Giselle admitted.
"Me neither." Taehyung joined.
Everytime Lola opened her mouth, another spark gleamed in Namjoon's eyes. "This is really impressive, and it sounds better than the original."
"T-Thanks..." Namjoon gulped. His voice had cracked multiple times, so it was not very audible. He scratched the back of his neck, "I uh- 'pre- 'preciate it."
Out of the corner of his eye, Jungkook saw. Destiny had picked up on it too. He squinted his eyes, and she gave him a look- then eyed Giselle to see if the blondie had noticed it too...
Alas, Giselle was zoned out, lost in Namjoon's eyes, who were lost in Lola's... They were drowning.
"Anyways!" Destiny rose to her feet and signaled the other two. "We gotta go, it's late."
"Why?!" Taehyung pouted, "We was gon' make music- y'all can watch."
"Boy, I'm tired." Destiny raised a brow, rolling her eyes. She gathered her things, as well as Giselle's, and waited for Lola, who'd been held by Jungkook.
"Why ain't you stayin'?" He pleaded, carressing the side of her thigh. "You wanted to watch me sing live."
Lola giggled. She took his hand off her thigh, tangling her fingers with his instead, "I'll watch you sing live on a stage."
Bunny teeth on display, "Oh, you think imma make it big?" Jungkook played with the skin on her knuckles.
"Of course! I see the potential." She grinned. Leaning in, Lola pecked his lips softly. "See you."
"See ya." Practically in a trance, Jungkook waved her off as the girls left. "Fuck." He let out a deep sigh, giggling through it. He threw his head back over the couch and spread his legs.
All while Namjoon watched. "So, y'all two like a thing?" He questioned, a knot forming in his throat. Taehyung was eyeing Giselle until the girls stepped into Destiny's car. He hadn't heard a single thing the other two were talking about, but when he noticed Namjoon's face, he wondered what was going on.
"A thing?" Jungkook laughed. "Nah, but maybe I should ask her out, lowkey."
A crack had formed right in the middle of Namjoon's heart. Why was he feeling this way? Why did he care? Why was Lola on his mind?
