Won't You Stand By Me?

A young blond lay there, wondering how she was alive. Blood pooled around her body slowly, and the pain was unbearable. The bullet was lodged into the side of her neck sending shock-waves down her body once more, she didn't want to wince in pain or else it would hurt a lot more. Her brown eyes stared at the sky above her. Her breathing was ragged, her hands shook heavily and she wondered if she was gonna die any time soon.

Okay, maybe the author is getting ahead of herself. Let's start from the beginning shall we?

~

The young woman was walking with her boyfriend hand-in-hand towards the school. It was the last day of the senior year, and they wanted to be around their friends before they all went off to college. Paige was sure that Cartman was going to stay here in South Park with his mom and bum off of her for the rest of his life.

"What are you thinking about Paige?" questioned the young red headed man beside her, touching her back lightly.

"Just what we're going to do with our lives after senior year and college." Paige answered him leaning against his shoulder. "I don't know what I want to do with my life."

"You'll figure it out, you might stay home and cook for me and come with me when I travel with the Denver Nuggets one day."

She giggles and nods. "I would love that." She tells him with a smile, kissing his cheek. "But I at least want to do something with my life."

"And you will, I promise."

~

After school, Paige was walking back home by herself ignoring the world around her. Kyle had to go do something with his friends in which she didn't mind. Paige smiles when she reaches home, but she felt something was off when she reached the door.

When she opened the door, she saw loads of blood on the floor, she gasps quietly walking in cautiously. Biting her lip tightly, she walked in grabbing her swiss-army knife she always kept on her. Paige looked around the corner seeing blood around her kitchen making her curious on what was going on.

When she ran up the stairs, she didn't see much blood, but she saw a trail leading to her room. Taking a deep breath, she walked up to her door leaning against the wall, she quietly opened the door seeing blood around her room. But when she saw no one around, she was wondering what was going on. Her hair was up in a ponytail as she sighs heavily.

"This is gonna be one mess to clean before my parents get here." She said quietly. Paige went into the kitchen and grabbed some cleaning supplies, she gathered up some cleaning brushes and cleaned up the mess. It took a good eight hours to clean, thankfully Paige was a patient woman who knew how to clean messes like these. "Geez, I'm wondering how this happened..."

Walking outside, she sat on the porch trying to cool down after cleaning up the house, Paige got a little overheated from cleaning as long as she did. Paige sighs a little bit leaning against her hands watching the sun fall down in the west making the sky show different colors. Sighing once more, she stands up stretching her back closing her eyes for just a brief moment. She opened them feeling the air getting colder and she walked back into her house closing the door and locking it.

Feeling secure in her own home, Paige walks into the kitchen and begins cooking her dinner, it felt nice not having anyone really around. Her parents tend to be a little overwhelming sometimes but she knew they meant well. Getting lost in her own thoughts, she was burning the food she was making. Gasping, Paige took it off and frowns, cursing to herself, she fixes her meal once more and sits down to eat her food.

~

Later that night, she was lying in bed thinking about her life. Wondering what she would do with it once she graduated from College. Sure, she would travel with Kyle when he joined the Denver Nuggets, but where does that leave her? Paige really didn't know what to do with her life, hell - even College was a challenge. She didn't even know to major in.

Sighing again, she heard something in the distance - getting curious, the young blond gets up from her bed and looks out her window seeing cars racing on her street and people standing out there watching them. Rolling her eyes, this was a typical thing every now and then on her block and it was annoying.

She already told them off once and they actually vandalized her house, took her days to clean. Kyle saw her one day and offered her to stay with him, but she declined. She was okay for now; Paige walks out of her room and downstairs, then outside watching them. Biting her lip, she was already annoyed watching them.

"Dumbasses." She muttered under her breath, the lights outside shined on the cars perfectly. Paige had already called the cops once and they came and dismissed everyone from watching. But - after the vandalizing, she didn't want to risk it again. She wondered if they came into her house and left all those stains and wondered why. "Just leave and not come back."

As if hearing her, she heard a car go by and the next thing she knew, she felt pain in her neck and screaming. Eyes widen as she flopped onto the ground not moving. She didn't move or breath in fear of them coming and finishing off what they just did.

She finally realized why they did that; they wanted revenge and this was what they wanted. Her dead, as petty as it was. But - it was one of those men that held grudges for stupid reasons. She heard them walking up to her and she lay still, unmoving. The man above kicks her side and leans down to her, talking.

"That's what you get you dumb bitch." She heard him slur out. "Next time, which there won't be cause your dead you whore, don't be a tattle tale."

Getting up, the man spits on her face, walking off to drive off with his friends. Everyone was hiding, not calling the cops on what just happened. They didn't want to end up like Paige.

She lay there wondering how she was alive with the bullet lodged in her neck, blood spilling from the wound and pooling around her body slowly. The pain was unbearable.

When she heard someone walking towards her, she moved her eyes to see Kenny, her best friend. Letting out a shaky breath, she moved her hand to indicate that she was alive, she saw Kenny's eyes widen and he ran up to her.

"Paige, P! Talk to me!" Kenny shouts at her touching her shoulders making sure not to move her too much.

She looks at him weakly, letting out another shaky breath and she talks very quietly. "Help... Me."

And with that, she passes out from the pain.

~

"Let me see her!"

"She's undergoing surgery to get the bullet out of her neck, it's a miracle that she's even alive right now. You have to calm down sir!"

"That's my future wife in there! Let me see her now!"

"Kyle, calm down! They're doing everything they can to save her right now."

"She'll make a full recovery, but we're unsure if she's going to speak again, the bullet lodged into her neck obviously, close to the vocal cords, but the heat from the bullet burned them 2nd degree."

"Will she be okay?"

"I don't know, after this, I wouldn't be surprised if she has night terrors."

Gasping for air, Paige looks around the room she was in. She saw a nurse checking her vitals and smiles when she sees Paige's brown eyes glancing around.

"Hi honey, you're awake." The nurse smiles at her touching her head. "Your boyfriend and your friends have been worried about you."

"..." Paige opens her mouth but it hurt her to talk.

The nurse shakes her head handing her a white board with the color green as a marker. "Don't try to talk, rest up those vocal cords, looks like it'll take time to heal."

Paige touches her neck feeling a bump there, she lets out a sigh and begins to write on the board. 'Where are my friends? I wanna see them right now!'

"I think they went home, but two stayed, I'll go grab them okay?"

Paige nods and the nurse walks out to grab the doctor and her friend. She wondered who stayed here. Pursing her lips, she looks up seeing two men walking in, one of them Kenny and the other Kyle. She then tears up and begins crying.

"You're okay, P. We're here now." Kenny says walking up to her and touching her hand.

"When Kenny told me what happened, we rushed over here as fast as we can, Paige. I am so sorry-" Paige touches his lips to make him be quiet, she writes on the white board the nurse gave her and shows him it. 'You don't need to be sorry, those guys were just assholes. Why they shot me is anyone's guess.'

Kyle chuckles lightly and they both hug her tightly. "How's the patient doing?" asked the doctor as soon as he walks in. Paige writes on her board once more. 'I'm okay, still a little sore. Will I be okay?'

The doctor sighs a little bit. "If you're asking about speaking again, there is a 50/50 change you might be able too, but it will take some time. Rest for a few weeks and see what happens alright? You'll be discharged in 48 hours that way we can monitor you." Paige nods and looks at everyone while they smile at her.

~

Two weeks had passed since then, Kyle was everywhere Paige was (except the bathroom). Kyle catered to Paige's every need and Paige found it very sweet of him too do but - she also felt bad, she didn't want him to take care of her with this, she was going to take care of him. When she expressed her concern, he brushed it off and smothered her face with kisses, whispering to her telling her he would do anything for her.

Paige sat in his kitchen one morning, his family was also kind enough to keep her at their house while she was recovering. She stared at the wall, wondering if she should try to talk. Paige hears someone coming down stairs and she sees Kyle's mom walking down.

"Oh, hi honey. How are you feeling?" Paige nods towards her. "Are you ready to start talking today?" Paige nods with a smile on her face. "I'll wake up up bubby, okay?" Taking a deep breath, she opens her mouth.

"You don't have too." She spoke for the first time since her surgery. Kyle's mom was shocked hearing her voice after a few weeks. "I'll surprise-"

"-You already did." said a voice from the door to the kitchen. She looks at him seeing a smile on his face. "It's wonderful hearing your beautiful voice again, Paige."

"It feels nice to speak again, Kyle. Thank you for standing by me."

Kyle walks up to her, hugging her close after she stood up from the chair. "I will always stand by you, Paige. For the rest of my life."
