There Is Nothing Worse Than Waiting

"Hey Cam?"
Maria asked walking up to the table Cam was sitting at.

"What?"
He replied, stuffing his face with an apple pie.

"How can you eat pie at a time like this?"

Cam shrugged.

"Pie helps me cope with life's problems."

"Okay... Well I just wanted to let you know that Fury wants to see you."

Cam groaned.

"Can't that guy give me a break?"

He stood up and followed Maria.
Still eating his pie.

They found him talking with Isabelle.

"What's up Nick?"
Cam asked.

"I want you and Isabelle to keep watch on the building. In other words, you two are going to be our lookouts."

"Great. So when this guy shows up we're going to be the ones takong fire first?"
Cam asked finishing off the pie.

"You can adapt can't you? Repel the blast from the gun or something."
Isabelle suggested.

"I don't know if I can do that but I'll try."

"Great. I'm having Barton join you as well. He's waiting near the front of the building."
Fury dismissed them and walked off with Maria.

Cam and Isabelle went to meet with Barton.

"What if I can repel the shot from this guy's gun?"
Cam asked.

"Then you'd probably be the one thing standing between him and his goal."
Isabelle replied.

"Really?"

"Think about it. You can adapt to any situation. If he can't take your powers away, and you can adapt to fight him with the powers he does have-"

"I get it. That would make me a target for him to wipe out."

"And if he can take your powers we're done for."

"Seriously Nicole, I'm fine."
Del assured her aunt.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. I'm totally fine. Now give me my Nintendo."

"Hmm..."
Nicole held Del's Nintendo just out of her reach.
"I don't know if you really need it right now. You should probably rest."

"I've been resting and I'm sick of it! Just give me the Nintendo!"

Nicole laughed and handed it to her.

"That's how I know you're just fine."

Del rolled her eyes and began playing.

ShadeSlayer hadn't made a move yet, and everyone was doubting if he ever would.

One thing was for sure, everyone was growing impatient.

If this guy is trying to drive us crazy he is succeeding.

Nicole suddenly heard voices coming from the hall.

She stood up and walked towards the door.

"What is it?"
Del asked.

"No idea. I'll go look."

Nicole walked out of the room and saw Barton, Cam, and Isabelle talking to some teenager.

Nicole recognized him as that Parker kid.

She walked over to see what was going on.

"So Skyler told you everything that happened and now you've come over here to help?"
Barton narrowed his eyes.

"Yes. She asked me to help study the gun and it's effect on people."
Peter looked over at Cam.

"Do you seriously believe that I'm a spy or something?"

"I want to know why Skyler thinks she can just invite random people here."
Cam crossed his arms.

"She may be an Avenger but she's still only a teenager."

"Come on Cam. If the guy can help we should let him."
Nicole joined in the concersation.

"Peter right?"

"Yes."

"I'm Nicole. Come on I'll take you to the lab."

Peter followed her through the many halls and past the many rooms.

When the reached the lab Tony and Skyler were still working but had been joined by Bruce, Iris, and Loki.

"Hey Pete! Bout time you got here."
Skyler didn't look up from her work.

"I got held up at the front door."

Peter walked over and began to talk with Skyler.

Meanwhile Nicole wanted to know if they'd found anything else out about the gun.

"So far... Nothing."
Tony told her.

"At the moment we're trying to figure out if the gun has the same effect on Asgardians as it does on people."
Bruce told her.
"Well, super powered people."

"Have you found anything?"
Iris asked holding Loki's hand.

"Well we're not positive, but there's a 30% chance that the gun can take away your abilities and transfer them to Lucas."
Tony said.

"And the other 70?"
Loki asked narrowing his eyes.

"It could kill you."

Iris gripped Loki's hand tighter.

"That thing is that powerful?"
Nicole exclaimed.

"Like I said earlier, these are just theories."
Skyler said her voice revealing the tiniest hint of fear.

"How's Del?"
Tony asked.

"She's doing fine. She can't stand not having her powers but that's normal for her."

Tony smiled and continued his work.

"Can I help with anything?"
Nicole asked.

She was tired of having nothing to do.

"Actually you can-"
Bruce never got to finish his sentence.

Because at that moment at huge explosion knocked them off their feet.

ShadeSlayer had come.
