Chapter 16
Anete Point of View
Truly, I really don't want to do this.
Cacao tried to stop this from happening, he really did but his sister Peach is rather a cunning person. She has been targeting for my approval from the very beginning because she knew if I fell in her trap, her brother would too.
That little girl is only sixteen but her mind works like a Hitler went banshee.
She is a fox... of course with a condition!
"You need to have conviction, Anete." Conviction? For this?
I mean, I don't get scared easily but this girl has a talent to get people creep up. However, my only solace is Cacao who is not doing any better.
"What kind of performing arts is this? You could've chosen dancing or singing or something normal for your project." Cacao grumbled but his voice sounded as normal as it always was. There is no annoyance or disbelief in it.
But then again, they are used to unexpected situations so I guess they are trained for this from their mother's womb.
"I was battling between presenting a drama or this and after much thought with you both in mind; this won. Isn't it exciting though?" I actively shook my head, not agreeing to her but Cacao looked hesitant to say anything.
Is it because he is scared of his little sister?
Or does he find this fun in real sense?
It can't be right?
He can't be having fun doing this.
"Why do you have such projects anyway?" I asked in a low voice, looking around at the dark and empty except for us room.
"It's our final year in high school next year. The management of our school always does this to encourage students to find out their interest of study next. I've always been interested in performing arts. This project is to encourage me and see what exactly I like." Peach explained with a peachy smile.
"And you chose to perform dark magic? It's an Occult practice." That's right. Like Cacao said, some may take this in an entertaining way but this will not be welcomed and appreciated by many.
"Well, this is a performing art too so why not. If we don't take the first step then who will?" If this is not about practicing dark magic by taking lessons from Youtube and other weird sites, Peach sounds like a youth influencer.
We are in the middle of circle of candles, Cacao and I holding hands over another candle in the middle while chanting something absurd she wrote for us.
We have been trying this from an hour and nothing happened.
Except for candle wax melting and replacing with another, nothing happened.
"Then do you have a plot for the drama you didn't choose?" I asked, hoping to change her mind some way or the other.
Because at the end of the day, it is I and Cacao who has to go to stage and perform this madness. This will be one heck of embarrassment that could beat the time when I jumped into a murky lake in a bikini thinking it was a pool.
"Of course, I always have a plan B."
"Let's hear the plot and see which one is interesting and fun." I encouraged her to narrate the story.
"So it starts with our male protagonist who is rich, popular and CEO of his own business empire. He is super influential." Okay, that is an okay start.
"Go on." Cacao encouraged with a frown.
"Now comes the female protagonist; she is quirky, funny and a nutcase on her usual days. She works in a small event management company as an organizer. One day, when she was in a hurry to reach office on time, she almost got run down by male protagonist's car. That was when they first meet and from the moment his eyes landed on her, he wanted her in his bed." Peach grinned and looked at us expectantly.
Sounds... I don't know what to say. I read something like this in probably, most of the books that are in my app library.
Cacao sighed before asked if the hero fell in love with heroine at first sight.
"Of course not. It is desire not love. He doesn't believe in love. He only wants quick pleasure." As expected.
I briefly glanced at Cacao and noticed a confused frown on his face.
"Why would he not believe in love? Was he betrayed by love before?" He asked and started to analyze the situation like a Cupid he is.
"No."
"Then he must have seen far too many platonic relationships to believe in them."
"No, brother."
"Did he go through any traumas in the past that lead him to have commitment issues?"
"He lead a good and a safe life, brother. His parents love each other like fish and water. He was never in a real relationship before to face any betrayal. He has no traumas of any kind. He is super smart and unbelievably wealthy to be outsmarted by anyone."
The frown on Cacao's face turned into a fully dug scowl and I have one on mine as well.
What is wrong with that hero then?
"Then why does he not believe in love?" I asked but in my heart, I already knew most of the answer to the question.
Having been an avid reader, I've read hundreds of novels of many genres and I somehow, in my heart, knew why he doesn't believe in love.
"That's how novel heroes' are."
"Is this some kind of trend or fashion to be a boneheaded and uncompassionate for entertainment purpose?" Cacao exclaimed, totally not believing his ear.
He actually heard this nonsensical reason and he could not believe this happens in novels. I can tell what is going on in his mind with that twitch on his jaw.
"Tell you what; you did the right thing to choose dark magic over that ludicrous story. Chanting these alien language spells is better than being that sleazebag in your drama."
I agree! But still, black magic is not people friendly right?
These Almonds are... unique.
"I know right. Alright, both of first keep your mind empty, hold each other's hands over the candle and chant the spell with full devotion. Ask the forces around to help you; help you both to prove that the forces have always been there around us. Tell the forces to indicate this fact by lighting the fire from the candle on your hands without hurting you the least."
Cacao almost lost it but looking at his young sister who was grinning so innocently at him, he couldn't help but chant the spell loudly with me.
"I can't believe I'm asking the invisible forces to burn me alive." He mumbled to himself but still continued to chant, making me want to laugh out.
This is getting hilarious though.
"It's not leprdchl, brother. It's leprdchl." She did realize that she said the same thing while trying to correct her brother, right?
Is this how correction works?
After fifteen minutes of chanting with futile results, I sighed and looked at the little girl in defeat. "There is no this fantasy magic in the world. This will not work no matter how long we do this."
Peach shook her head and tapped her chin, thinking about what might went wrong. I can't believe she truly believe the magic would work.
That is impossible.
"I know. I know why this is not working. The base of dark magic is using darkness from inside you. Close your eyes and find that darkness and use it to gain the attention of forces."
"I'm too pure to have any darkness inside me. You chose the wrong person, sister."
True!
He is the purest. Period.
"Come on, brother. There is no human without even a speck of darkness inside them. That is practically impossible even for deities then what of us? Alright, why don't you use your unadulterated soul to lure the dark forces towards you? You can do that right? Seeing as you are quite a pro in luring troubles, you can surely do this."
Goodness, why am I even doing this?
I am Anete Allard, the one of the heiress to Allard empire!
Here I am, postponing my meetings and other important works to perform dark magic arts for my crush's sister's school project.
Love can really do unexpected things to people.
"Hey, Lord of darkness, hear my call, hear my plea, for I am offering my brother and future sister-in-law to you." O-offering?
Offering us?
What is wrong with this girl? I don't want either of us to be offered to some dark lord.
"Peach –" I and Cacao call out together but we were ignored by her and carried on to gain attention from whoever the dark lord is.
"Help them, Master. Show them the path of magic. Tell them that you are real and that there is darkness in every person. Teach them to use it not for evil but for good." Peach spread her hands towards the roof and at it while calling out for the Dark Master while sometimes shaking her body like a sorcerer who is ready to get possessed.
"Also, please start with supporting them to fall for each other so deeply that it should be impossible to get out." She spoke in a rather normal voice after shouting for a while.
I would love to have him forever but Peach dear, this isn't the way to heart.
"Master – Dark Lord, bless the three of us with magical powers!"
No thanks, I'm happy to be powerless!
