Chapter 14

Victoria's POV

After the service people were asked to share some of their memories. I just couldn't bring myself to say anything. I just remained seated and clutched Alec's hand. When the proceedings were finally done everyone was invited for snacks in the backyard.

Alec went to get us some snacks and I walked to the pavilion. The place that held so many precious memories. The first night we met, the night he proposed and countless of picnic dates. It was so hard because everywhere I looked I was reminded of Jaydan. Everything brought back memories.

A few minutes later Alec came by with a plate full of snacks. I thanked him. Before I took a small pastry.

"This is hard," Alec finally said.

"You have no idea. Everywhere I look, I'm reminded of him and I just want to cry again. I feel so weak," I said.

Alec pulled me in a hug and I felt a bit comforted. Alec's hugs weren't as nice as Jay's, but it gave me the comfort I needed. I was never going to hug Jay again. A few more people came by to give condolences. I now realise how little condolences meant as I think about the condolences I've given to the family members of the victims. I wish there was something better to say or do, but alas nothing can heal this absolute broken feeling inside.

"Victoria!" I heard Jordon call my name as he made his way to the pavilion with a man short on his heels.

I gave him the best smile I could manage once he was in front of me.

"Can you come with us for a few minutes," I looked at Alec and he gave me a nod.

I followed Jordon and the strange man to Jordon's office. Once we were all inside he closed the door behind us. He indicated to the seat across his desk and I took a seat.

"I know that this is not the best time, but I thought that it was best to get this over and done with," he said. I nodded, encouraging him to go on.

"This is Mr Riley, he is Jaydan's lawyer," I shook Mr Riley's hand.

"I would like to discuss Jaydan's will with you," Mr Riley said.

"I didn't know Jay had a will," I said perplexed. We never really discussed wills before.

"He had it drawn up two weeks ago," he explained.

"Why?" Could Jay possible have known something was going to happen? I scolded myself for my stupid thought. Of course Jaydan didn't know that something like this was going to happen.

"He said something about ensuring that you were fine, even if you weren't married," that made sense. Jay always talked about making sure I was taken care of.

"May I read his will?" He asks and I nodded.

He started to read and I tried to focus on his words but I was just to shocked. Jay left me the house he showed me a few weeks ago and a total of $8 million as well as his fifty percent of the companies' shares. That was a lot of money and I didn't even know what to say.

"Are you sure he gave me his shares of the company?" I asked Mr Riley.

"Yes," he confirmed. I didn't even know what to do with that information.

"You don't have to worry about that, Victoria, I will handle the business aspect," Jordan reassured me. I gave him a grateful smile atleast he understood my worries.

After discussing a few more aspects regarding the will I finally decided that it was time to leave. Mr Riley bid me goodbye and Jordan helped me search for Alec. I was ready to go home.

"Life isn't going to be the same without him," Jordan said we looked around for Alex.

"No, it will never be the same," I whispered. We found Alec by the food table and I asked him to take me home. After I greeted a few people, Alec and I left.

We arrived at my apartment a few minutes later. I just sat in the car with Alec for a few minutes.

"Do you want me to come up with you?" He asked.

"I think I just need to be alone for now. Thanks for everything Alec. I appreciate everything," I said before I hugged him and climbed out of the car. I waved as he drove past. I just needed to be by myself.

The apartment felt lonely as I stepped inside. It was only after I locked the door that I saw the note on the floor, the familiar yellow paper. I picked it up and almost laughed when I read the words on the paper.

Our game has come to an end

That explains why I haven't heard from the stalker anymore. Jaydan was gone and he had nothing he could hold against me anymore. I took a seat on my couch and thought about everything that happened the last few weeks. Jordon was right, life wasn't going to be the same without Jaydan. Without his remarks. The way he brought me coffee randomly. All our adventures together. Everything in life I grew to love was gone within a second.

...

The next day I decided to visit the lair. I needed to gather our pictures and things. I was given two weeks off and I was going to spent these two weeks to work through everything. I knew that it was going to take me much more than two weeks to get over the loss of Jaydan. I might never get over him.

The lair was still the same as I remembered from the last night I spent here with Jaydan. My deduction board was still on the wall and I decided to move everything back to my apartment. As I was taking down the pictures of the victims and the possible suspects I still got an uncertain feeling about this case. Like it wasn't really solved.

I needed to solve this case for Jaydan. He said that I needed to find the truth and that was what I was going to do. I was to go through every single detail. Everything everybody said. I was going to catch the real murderer. Even if it was the last thing I did.
