Chapter 10

Victoria's POV

Tim was waiting for me at my desk when I arrived at the office.

"Mrs Green is in interrogation room 5 and Weston is in room 6, I would've used the meeting room, but the commissioner is in a meeting," I nodded.

"Who do we talk to first?" I asked.

"Let's ask Captain," and right on que our captain arrived.

"Ask me what?" He asked.

"Who do you want to interview first?" Tim asked.

"Let's talk to the wife and give the son a chance to finish his formal report," we nodded in agreement before we went to interrogation room 5. Tim and I entered the room where Mrs Green was waiting for us while the captain went to the room next to the interrogation room where everything was recorded.

"Sorry Mrs Green for letting you wait here," Tim apologised while I closed the door behind us. I took a seat next to Tim, opposite Mrs Green.

"It's alright, I know this is all part of usual procedure," she said. I took her statement that she finished writing.

"I'm sorry to ask this again Mrs Green, but can you walk me through the events on the night of the murder," I asked and she told me again what happened and how it took place.

When we were done with Mrs Green we went to Weston and asked him the same questions after he finished his statement.

Nothing new was learnt from our questions, but we didn't expect anything more.

Once we let them go Tim and I returned to the box of letter Mr Samuels brought. We worked through the box of letters the whole day and only took a break during lunch time.

One of the letters caught my attention it had simply one sentence that made me think about what my mother told me this morning. It simply said I know what you did.

"Tim, look at this one," I told him as I handed him the letter.

"I know what you did? Not really threatening," Tim said.

"No, but I went to my mother and she told me that Mr Green called her the day before. He claimed he had something to get off his chest," I said.

"So you think that this person who killed him knew that he wanted to come clean about something and killed him to prohibit him from doing exactly that?" Tim asked.

"That is exactly what I thought. If we can find that something, we can get our killer," I said.

"Well the letter doesn't say to much about this, but maybe we can find other letters that will help us put a face to this stranger," Tim said and we continued to scour the pile of letters, this was going to take some time.

My cellphone beeped and I quickly stole a glance. Jaydan sent me a message to remind me about our appointment with the wedding planner tonight. He asked if could meet at my apartment and I sent a quick reply confirming that it was fine with me. I couldn't help but let out a sigh, this was too much. I stressed about the case and on top of that I had to plan a wedding. I felt stressed.

"What's wrong?" Tim asked.

"Everything! This case, the wedding planning and the the-" I was about to say stalker, but I bit my tongue.

"Sorry, I'm just a but stressed, maybe if I got a goodnight sleep I will feel better," I said. But deep down I knew this feeling wasn't going to go away just like that. It felt like stress was consuming me and I didn't see an easy way out of it.

"It's natural to feel stressed during wedding planning, everyone stresses about it," Tim tried to reassure me, but the truth was I was more disappointed in myself for not putting more effort into the wedding planning, the wedding planner was doing most of the work and I was only giving input here and there, and I left Jaydan alone with decisions too.

The rest of the day I spent thinking about the case, the wedding and then my lovely stalker. We received the coroner's report and it  clearly stated that no drugs or poison was found in the victims system.

I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn't even notice the time.

"Are you going home?" I heard Tim and when I glanced at the clock I saw that it was already 10 past 5.

"Yeah, sorry. Lost in this case I guess. I'll see you tomorrow," I greeted him before I grabbed my things and prepared to leave. I was at the door when Tim called me back.

"Vici, talk to Jaydan about this. Don't hide this from him, he is going to be your partner for life, and you should be able to share these feelings with him," I nodded. He was right of course. If I couldn't tell Jaydan how I felt, who could I tell.

As soon as I arrived at my apartment I was relieved to see that I didn't get another note from the stalker. I was in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs and I decided to get to work. Jaydan would probably be famished when he got here.

I thought about everything that was happening in my life and I realised that it was like the time I helped the Shadow (Jaydan). I felt everything was happening at once and I didn't know what to do. I don't know when I started to cry but I only realised that I was crying when I heard a concerned voice next to me.

"Vic are you okay? What's wrong?" I could hear that Jaydan was frantic with worry. I didn't even hear him come in. He pulled me into a hug and I already felt better.

"I'm glad you're here," I said as I buried my face in his chest.

"What's wrong? Did something happen? Did you get hurt?" Jaydan asked.

"I'm fine, I guess it's just pre-wedding jitters," I said as I looked him in the eyes.

"You sure? Should I call off our meeting with the planner?" Jaydan asked.

"No, we need to meet her, the wedding is in three weeks. I'm sorry, I guess that all the stress just got to me," I explained before I went back to the stove where the food was being cooked.

"You're stressed out. This was exactly what I wanted to avoid. I knew I shouldn't have proposed," he said.

"What?" I asked shocked.

"No no, that's not what I meant. Ugh I meant, I should've chosen a better time. The last thing I wanted was to cause you unnecessary stress," He quickly explained.

"Jay, there wasn't a perfect time to propose, there is no such thing as a perfect time. I just need a goodnight's sleep and I will feel better," I said with a smile to reassured him.

"Are you sure because we can postpone the wedding," he said.

"No, knowing that the wedding is only in a short three weeks' time is the only thing helping me to get through everything. I'm sorry I just feel so useless," I said.

"Well you're far from useless, now I have something that will cheer you up tomorrow. I'm going to pick you up at one o'clock," he stated.

"And what will this something be?" I asked.

"You'll have to wait and see, but anyway how is the food coming? It smells good and I'm starving," he said.

"Then hand me some plates and then we can eat," I said.

Jaydan and I finished our dinner very fast and I only realised how hungry I actually was.

"That was splendid!" Jaydan said.

"I'm glad you liked it," I said as I took the plates to the sink. Right at that moment the doorbell rang and Jaydan answered the door.

"Tracy! Welcome, come in," Jaydan said as he opened the door and our wedding planner stepped inside.

"Thank you. Hello Victoria," she greeted as Jaydan closed the door and led her to the living area.

"Hey Tracy, thank you for meeting us here," I said as Jaydan and I took a seat opposite her.

"No problem. Now I only have a few things that you would need to decide on and the the rest of the things will be finished by me. Now if you look at the following..."

Tracy, Jaydan and I spent an hour making decisions about the last few things we wanted at our wedding. Once Tracy got everything she needed she bid us a goodnight before she left.

"Well that wasn't that difficult," Jaydan said as he closed the door before he joined me on the couch.

"Yes, at least we have one less thing to worry about," I said.

"Yes, and just think in three weeks' time we would be married and off to our honeymoon," Jaydan said with a grin.

"Where is our honeymoon going to be?" I asked.

"That, love, is a secret," he said as he poked my nose.

"Not even a clue?" I said with a pout.

"Don't even try that face on me. My lips are sealed and I want it to be a surprise," he said.

"Don't you think I've had enough surprises in my life?"

"Nope, you could always do with one more. And besides, you would thank me when we get there."

"I don't doubt it," I said when a yawn escaped my lips.

"Ah, someone needs to go to bed," Jaydan said.

"No, don't go. Let's watch a movie first," I said.

"Fine, but after that you are going straight to bed young lady," he said as he pointed a finger at me.

"Yes, Dad," I said with sarcasm.

Jaydan switched on the television and selected a movie. Once he was back on the couch I made myself comfortable by laying on my head on his lap.

"Are you comfortable?" He asked as he grabbed a small blanket and covered me with it.

"Yes, and you?" I asked.

"Always."

The movie started to play and I recognised the intro music to Jumanji. I loved this movie and Jaydan and I already watched it like five times.

I misjudged how tired I was, because half way through the movie I could feel my eyes close and before I knew it I was submerged into darkness.

Jaydan's POV

I watched as Victoria fell asleep on my lap. I knew she was tired, but she just didn't want to admit it. I could see she was trying to keep a brave face for me. This was all that stalker's fault.

He stressed her out and she didn't want to talk to me about it, because she thought she was protecting me.

I thought back to my meeting I had with Shawn, a private investigator. I told him that I wanted him to get footage of the warehouse where Victoria was held captive five years ago. That was the only time I ever took of my mask and if the stalker knew that I was the Shadow, that would've been the time he found out about it.

I stopped the movie before I gentle removed myself from under Victoria without waking her. She needed her sleep. This brought so many memories back.

I switched of the television before I carried Victoria to her room. I removed her shoes before I tucked her in. I placed a kiss on her forehead before I left locking the apartment behind me.

When I got home, my mother was busy in the kitchen washing dishes.

"Hey honey, how's Victoria?" My mother asked.

"She is a bit stressed out," I said as I leaned against the counter.

"Don't tell me she is getting cold feet," my mother said stressed.

"No, never. It's just this case and wedding planning and everything taking its toll. I think we need a vacation and our honeymoon would do just the trick," I said.

"You think she is going to enjoy the tour around the world?" My mother asked.

"Yes, she already asked for a hint but I refused to give her one."

"I think she is going to be super excited when she learns what her honeymoon is going to be," She said.

"Definitely. Anyway, night mom, and thank you for everything," I said as I kissed her on her forehead. I went to my apartments.

That night I fell asleep think about Victoria and ridding her of this stalker.
