Prologue
Have you ever felt so useless, so unimportant, or like you're some kind of messed up mistake that wasn't even suppose to be created the way you are today? Probably not.
You see, I'm known around the world as the freak. The accident. The winged mutant. One of the five only freaks to ever escape the facility. Only one of five to ever survive the horrible tests that the scientists put us through.
Yes, you heard me correctly. Scientists. Evil ones in my opinion.
How was I created? Out of purely mad and horrific dedicated work and formulas. Sure, I was born just like any other natural baby was born, except my "mother" died in childbirth. And what's screwed up was they were worried more about getting me out alive rather than focusing on reviving the human who had tried giving birth to me.
How was I created? Very simple. They modified my DNA. I'm 95% human, 2% avian (bird) and 3% of whatever else they decided to put in my DNA to make me a better weapon. That's right. A better weapon.
Shocker, I know. Using a poor innocent being, whether human or created, as a weapon to destroy other countries. Terrible. At least that's what I thought.
When they "introduced" to the General for the first time, right away I noticed something that scared me the most. His eyes. They stared at me greedily behind the "cage" they put me in. They told a lot of stories about him, including one in particular.
That he was a person who will kill everyone and everything that stands defiantly in his way.
That was not somebody I wanted to be used as a weapon for. I'm my own being, I have feelings too. I'd rather not be used as a weapon, even though that's what I was created to do. And eventually the scientist caught on to the fact that I didn't want to be used as I was created to be used, so they showed me something.
Dead mutants.
That's right. Dead mutants. They showed me all of the other creations that they made who failed to succeed their intent purpose. Some were lucky enough to get a bullet to the head, others had to face the guard dogs.
You heard me right, the guard dogs. And I'm not talking about your average German Shepard. I'm talking about modified, genetically enhanced, looks like something from a horror movie, belongs back down in hell where it belongs guard dogs. They even named the three of them cute little names like Panic, Destroyer, and Rain.
They would put the mutants, depending on how serious they were behaving, in the cage with the dogs. The dogs would bark and yap as the mutant screams, trying to find a place to hide. But before the mutant even could move, they would give the command "Kill" and that mutant will be formed to shreds alive.
But somehow, someway I got passed them and broke free from that cage. My wings barely got grazed from the bullets the scientists shot at me as I flew up into the very blue sky. And for the first time, as I flew away from that dreaded place, I, Phil Lester, finally felt free.
Free from tests, free from needles, free from every little horrible thing that those scientists have ever put me through.
But I should've known that freedom, comes with a price.
