Third Stage: First Day

Shikamaru was the first one up which was his new normal. He groaned at the thought of combing out his knots that formed during the night. He turned to meet Naruto's chest which was rising steadily, he smiled and snuggled a bit before getting up. He got ready quickly and woke up Naruto.

"Don't you have a meeting in an hour?" Shikamaru said looking into his sleeping face. Naruto scowled.

"Bee and I are taking shifts, I have work tomorrow." Naruto turned his back on him. "Now for the much desired sleep."

"No, that means you can help me deal with the hoards of questions we face as soon as we go outside." Shikamaru smiled and pulled him out of bed.

"You know over the years I think you got too comfortable." Naruto grumbled as he headed into the shower. Shikamaru stood by the door watching him.

"How can I not?" His wife said with a smirk. "You placed me on a throne and made me stay there by force and make my selfish demands reality."

"Exactly, maybe you should come off and do a little dirty work." Naruto said and toweled off himself before putting on a casual out. Black pants, combat boots and a white sleeveless shirt. Shikamaru was in something similar but it was in full white.

Naruto went to the adjoining room were the twins still slept. "Alright mayhems, get up or breakfast will be over with when you get ready." That got Boruto up who was naturally a light sleeper but Shikadai turned his back still in deep sleep.

Naruto shook his head and dressed Boruto in his usual morning outfit. Paint spattered pants and a crisp white shirt. He dressed the still asleep Shika in the same clothes but his shirt was light green. Boruto ran to his mother's side who took his hand and led him out the door. As they headed into the lobby of the hotel they were met with Team 7 and 10 who had their kids with them.

"Can't we have breakfast in peace before this," Naruto grumbled as he adjusted his grip on Shikadai.

"I'm sorry maybe we came a bit early," Sakura apologized as she looked on at the changes. In her eyes they looked younger than them which was weird, sure they were all 26 or 27 but still they could've passed for 18 no problem.

"Mom, did you even attempt to comb your hair." Boruto asked as he tugged on it from where he stood beside him.

"Let me ask you this, did you wash yours last night?" Shikamaru looked down at him. Boruto blushed in embarrassment. "And your father had the audacity to lie about it to me."

Naruto raised a hand in defense. "Hey, don't drag me into this." Boruto shot him a betrayed look.

"Dad," Shikadai whined as he opened one of his eyes.

"Finally up, do you think you can slack off just because your on a trip." Naruto held him up by his shirt and released him. Shikadai landed with ease and turned to his twin.

"Do you have it?" He asked, Boruto dropped his previous whining and produced a scroll from his pocket. "Let's go," They were gone in a flash.

"Now that they've started morning training," Shikamaru turned to his former friends. "How about breakfast."

As they walked to a nearby restaurant they were quietly observed by the others.

"Why," Ino asked as they had seated in the restaurant. Naruto was calmly making his way through the standard breakfast while Shikamaru sipped on his tea.

"Your going to have to be more specific." Shikamaru spoke up as he folded his legs. Now that Ino had a chance to observe much closer, Shikamaru looked different. And she noted a red mark peaking out on his shoulder, it wasn't a hickey since it looked too solid in color.

'Maybe a tattoo?' She wondered as Choji spoke up for her.

"Why are you back, how come we didn't hear word from you two for the last 8 years." Choji pressed as he narrowed sharp eyes at Naruto. Naruto shot back the same look.

"Let's all be honest going further into this," Naruto started. "None of you here are concerned with me. You all hate me for sweeping away your best friend."

"That's not true Naruto," Sakura said as she clenched her fists. "We looked for you, we looked," She trailed off looking like she was about to cry.

"Sure you did," Naruto scoffed as he finished his meal. "My search was half assed and you all know it. If I was to be honest it didn't come close to the magnitude of Sasuke's." Naruto pointed to his wife. "He's the only one that searched for me seriously. And as rewarded I broke him free from this life." He gestured to the ones that sat across from him.

"And you all turned out great by the looks of it." Shikamaru commented as he eyed the children in the various parent's laps. "I think we did well too Naruto."

"You've gotta be fucking kidding me right," Naruto scoffed playfully. "We did fantastic, but you getting pregnant when we were half way around the world was a frightening experience."

Shikamaru blushed and turned from him. "Last time I checked it took two to make babies."

"But seriously the way how you gave birth in-" Naruto's mouth was shut by a red Shikamaru. "Alright I'll save you your dignity."

"Why are you insisting on letting it all loose since we came here." Shikamaru asked seriously.

"They want to know why I turned you rogue and what happened in the last 8 years." Naruto shrugged. "I'm proud of what happened I would never keep it to myself but if you want that then fine. It's the least I can do."

Shikamaru kissed his cheek with a bright smile. "You know despite your crap personality you are a gentle giant."

Before Naruto could reply screams could be heard. "Daddy!!!!" Was screamed in unison and Naruto was on his feet in a instant. When he reached outside his kids were being held by standard Jounin ninja.

"Just wait till my father kicks your ass." Boruto scowled at them, they laughed at him.

"The fuck do you want with us, we were just having fun." Shikadai cursed.

"Shouldn't little kids show respect to older persons." One threatened with a cruel grin, the twins laughed in his face.

"I ain't from this crap village and you sure ain't my parents." They said in a detached voice, it sent shivers down the Jounin's spines and one raised their hand to smack Shikadai.

A scream came instead before he could lay a hand on him. Shikadai smirked as he and Boruto were released. "You weren't about to hit my kids." Naruto's dark voice echoed in their ears. Shikamaru smashed their wrists with his shadow.

They were forced to kneel before the Namikaze heirs who were behind Naruto's legs. "Apologize, what gives you the right to discipline my kits." Naruto growled.

"Stop it," Sasuke's calm voice came from behind Naruto.

"As long as they ain't hitting yours it's okay," Shikamaru snapped back. "If this is how you discipline kids that aren't yours then I hate to see how you deal with yours." He sneered at the guards and pulled back his shadows.

"They're so different from the ninjas at home." Boruto snorted.

"They don't get jokes baby boy," Naruto said as he crouched to their heights. "They're the cranky ones I grew up with, they never got my pranks."

"But-" Shikadai was cut off by his mother who shushed him.

"No buts baby, I guess you can't do your normal training morning routine." He pulled out some ninja wire. "How about you practice your trapping skills."

Shikadai nodded with a pout and took the wire. "Can we have ramen still or don't they have that here."

"I'll definitely make sure you get ramen, just find us later." Naruto promised ruffling his hair. "Now get going." They smiled and ran off.

"Shikamaru?" A confused voice called out, Shikamaru turned to meet familiar eyes like his own. It was his father, he looked older and was walking alongside Inoichi who glared at Naruto.

"Well look at that, it's a full house." Naruto laughed. Shikaku growled at the blond who folded his arms while still laughing. "I'm going to enjoy today."

"Of course you are." Shikamaru murmured annoyed with the presence of the man who wanted to keep him away from Naruto.
