It felt like 2009 again. I felt sick, I didn't want any of this to happen so badly, but it was so sudden we couldn't stop it. I remember vividly when I would sit on the couch, my phone vibrating the shit out of the table as the screen lit up the name "Brendon." I had to strain every muscle to not answer that phone to talk to my best friend. I would sit there until the phone stopped vibrating and watch as it went off again. Eventually it was silent. The breath that I never noticed I was holding finally got  rest and I would take a very, very deep breath. Never did I think I'd be back to this day.

"Ryan, your phones ringing." Cassidy called as she washed the dishes in the sink. I stood up from the chair beside the table, leaving my laptop open and went to look at my phone. "Brendon" the screen read. I stared at it, unable to move. "You okay?" she asked worriedly and turned off the sink to look at me. My eyebrows furrowed and I turned the screen so she could see it. Her face softened and she nodded. "Oh."

"Yeah. Oh." I chuckled sadly.

"Are you going to answer it?"

"No." I said faster than I anticipated. I shook my head. "I don't know." I exhaled and leaned against the counter.

"Answer it." she said. I looked at her and back to my phone which I was surprised was still ringing. I pressed accept and put the device to my ear.

"Hey."

"Hi! Ryan. I was wondering if you would like to maybe hang out or something tonight. Just you and I, like old times." he suggested. I didn't know what to say. What if something went wrong? "How 'bout it, Ross?" My heart shivered when he called me Ross. I hadn't had that nickname in ages.

"Uh, sure. You can come over to my place at like, six if you want." I shrugged and looked over to Cassidy who was smiling as she scrubbed a pot.

"Okay, cool. I'll see you then."

"Bye." I smiled.

"See ya." I clicked end call and looked toward Cassidy. She put the dish down and dried her hands, walking toward me. She wrapped her arms around my neck and looked me in the eye as she was inches a way from my face.

"I'm proud of you." He lips formed a grin and she pressed them to mine.

"Okay, calm down. He's just coming over to like, play video games or something." Cassidy said from the couch as I paced back and forth. It was five to six. Needless to say, I was nervous as fuck.

"I know, I know.. But what if we get angry again? I don't know... I just.. we have him back I don't really want to lose him." I said and dropped my hands in defeat.

"It'll be fine, Ryan." she said soothingly.

"I'm also worried you'll go back to him." I muttered under my breath. Cassidy's eyes widened,

"Oh, babe, no. I won't leave you for him. He's married and happy now, remember that." she said. I looked her in the eyes and my stress was lifted after I realized how silly I was being.

"You're right. I'm insane." I smiled. The doorbell rang and my heartbeat quickened. I looked behind me at the door and Cassidy gave me a reassuring smile before going to open the door. My fingers wrapped around the cold knob and I turned it, revealing Brendon.

"Hey!" he grinned. Same smile as always.

"Hi, come in." I stepped out of the way and he came inside, looking at his surroundings.

"Wow, nice place you got here. Cass here?" he asked after removing his shoes. The nickname he gave for my girlfriend, his ex-girlfriend was unexpected.

"Uh, yeah. Hey Cassidy?" I called. I heard her steps as she came into the foyer.

"Hi Brendon." she said.

"Hey!" he wrapped her in a hug before she could comprehend and it looked like she was slightly uncomfortable. "You look as great as ever."

"Uh, thanks." she smiled awkwardly and headed back to the dining room. I clapped my hands and looked at Brendon.

"So, video games and beer?" I grinned. He looked at me and nodded, his teeth forming a smile.

"Fuck yeah."
