Chapter 8: They're Here!
I felt a tug at my tummy. Ouch! This one was more painful. I kept on having these weird stabbing pains, like I had eaten deathberries. I decided to go see Jayfeather and Leafpool. I waddled into the nursery. "Jayfeather, I've been having these weird stabbing pains in my tummy," I complained.
He snorted. "Ah, yes," he mewed. "Why don't you just go back and rest and I'll be right there." So I lumbered back and waited for the pains to go away.
No such luck.
Jayfeather came as he promised, and I forced him to explain.
"Oh, stop your yowling," he hissed crossly. "Every queen knows what it's like to kit. Are you just getting your fur in a bundle?"
Oh. I was kitting. I won't explain it, as StarClan can hear my thoughts, and if I said what it was like, I might be exiled from it. All I'll say is that I broke four sticks in the process. In the end, I had four beautiful kits, three she-kits and a tom. I named the one that looked most like me, with green eyes, Rosekit. The darker brown she-kit, with dark blue eyes, Shadowkit. The amber kit with gold eyes I decided to call Sparkkit. I suddenly caught scent of Brambleclaw, and soon enough I saw him wriggle his way into the nursery. "Well, my darling mate, this is Shadowkit, Rosekit, Sparkkit, and I'm letting you name the tom."
He looked at me. "Um, how's Sunkit?" The name suited the tiny tom perfectly, as he looked like Brambleclaw's mother, Goldenflower. I licked his cheek and sleepily watched my kits lying by my side. I hoped that never changed.
I woke up to hear Leafpool yowling my name. "Squirrelstar! Squirrelstar! I've had a message from StarClan! We must travel to the mountains!"
Oh, I thought. Nothing important. Just the mountains. Wait, what?!
