Ben's Interrogation

I have a lot of excuses. So I wrote most of this right after posting the last chapter. I was like eighty percent done with it but when I came back to it, I couldn't find it for the life of me. Guys, save to the cloud. Anyway, I didn't have the energy to try to rewrite it then. So months passed and I honestly forgot about it. FInally when I remembered, I forgot what happened in the story and I got way too busy and decided to scrap it. But due to some support and update requests, I re-read my awful work and typed this out over a week. This is it. I hope you enjoy it. I'm sorry again for the delay.

Note: This is an interrogation transcribed by Agent James Leroy

[Smiles] Agent Cash Brown: Mr. Ripley. I have to say, it is an honor to finally meet you in person.

[Uncomfortable] Ben Ripley: Um... thanks. You too, I guess.

Brown: Excellent. Have you ever done one of these before?

Ripley: You mean an interrogation? No.

[Smiles again] Brown: Well, Mr. Ripley, I wouldn't call it an interrogation. More like, a... 'talk' to hear your side of the story.

Ripley: So why are we in an interrogation room and I'm sitting in a metal chair?

[Smile wavers] Brown: We simply didn't have any other rooms available.

[Dubious] Ripley: So you're saying that every single office or conference room in the CIA is being used?

[Shifts in chair] Brown: We are getting off topic. This conversation is recorded so everyone can hear your arguments and you can leave this room without a worry in the world. No one will bug you about this subject matter.

[Scoffs] Ripley: Without a worry in the world? That's a pretty bold statement. The CIA didn't catch SPYDER yet, right? I'd have to say, that's a worry in the world.

Brown: Again, getting off topic. Anything to say before the questions start?

Ripley: Yeah. Why does it look like you got mugged? Your face is sporting a bunch of bruises.

[Touches face and winces] Brown: It was from a very dangerous mission I got back from last month.

[Suspicious] Ripley: Last month? The bruises would have definitely not looked so purple and green right now. It looked like it just happened.

[Annoyed] Brown: That is confidential information.

[Comes to realization] Ripley: Erica did that to you, didn't she?! That makes total sense why she was smirking as she walked out of the room.

[Mutters under breath] Brown: I thought they said this kid wasn't too bright!

[Smirking] Ripley: What was that? I couldn't hear you.

[Super annoyed] Brown: Anyway let's get back to what I'm supposed to be doing instead of wasting time. When was the first time you were contacted by Erica Hale?

Ripley: Mike and I were running in on this trail in Washington DC. Suddenly this guy ran into me and slipped me a note.

Brown: Can you describe the guy? Had you ever seen or recognized him before? Do you know if he worked for SPYDER?

Ripley: That's a lot of questions. He was about 18 or 17 by the size of his build and was just wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. All I could tell was he had an Australian accent.

Brown: And did you know right then he slipped you a note or much later?

Ripley: Only when we got to the parking lot, which was about thirty minutes later.

Brown: Did you see the guy again?

Ripley: No

Brown: And are you sure you didn't recognize him? He could have been an agent for SPYDER? Did he have any disguising features?

Ripley: No, I've never seen him before.

Brown: Are you sure?

[Slightly irritated] Ripley: Yes I'm sure.

[A bit annoyed] Brown: Well, that's not helpful.

[Very annoyed] Ripley: Yeah, well I'm sorry. Why didn't you ask Erica while you were interrogating her? She probably gave the dude the note. Or right, because she was too busy beating you up. [Ripley smirks]

[Frustrated] Brown: Why don't you let me do my job, and you can do yours. Anyway, what did this specific note say?

Ripley: First, I don't have a job. There are child labor laws. And it said something like 'I need help. SPYDER captured me. Meet me in this alley and come alone. Erica.' Something along those lines.

Brown: Interesting. And where was this alley?

Ripley: Somewhere in Virginia.

Brown: Did you have any suspicions about the note or their intentions? Did you tell anyone about it?

Ripley: I was suspicious about the note at first, but it was in Erica's handwriting and I didn't believe Erica would ever join SPYDER. I didn't tell anyone about the note.

[A bit taunting] Brown: You were wrong. She did join SPYDER.

[Frowns] Ripley: Yeah I know that now. Duh.

Brown: Then what happened?

Ripley: Well I met her in that alley. I got a Spy School bus to drop me off. The drive was about two and a half hours. When I got there, she was waiting for me. At first I was relieved she was okay, but then, she started acting weird and not like herself. Erica whispered in my ear saying 'I'm the bad guy now' and knocked me out.

Brown: Intriguing. At that point, where you thinking she could be a double agent for the CIA or did you really think Agent Hale joined SPYDER?

Ripley: Well I was knocked out, so I didn't really think anything.

[Impatient] Brown: Of course not right then. After that.

Ripley: When I woke up, I was tied to a chair in a room with Joshua Hallal, Erica, Murray Hill and two guys Joshua referred to as Garrett and Rush, I'm pretty sure. I did have my suspicions that she was a mole for the CIA but it seemed at that point true that Erica doubled crossed the CIA.

Brown: How could you tell?
Ripley: I was tied to a chair in a room with enemy agents and she wasn't beating their faces in. What more could give it away?

[Beyond irritated] Brown: I am the one asking the questions here, mister. Seriously, I do not get paid enough to deal with these two.

Note from transcriber, Agent Leroy: I do not get paid enough to insert all these visible emotions in the interrogator and subject.

Ripley: One half of "these two" is sitting right here.

[Through gritted teeth]: I understand. Then what happened?

Ripley: I know you're trying to get my side of the story so I will tell you the shortened version of it. Joshua Hallal told me the reason they told me they kidnapped me because I apparently had some hacking skills I wasn't aware of and they wanted to make sure I didn't use this skill against them. Then Erica talked to me privately and told me she is officially working for SPYDER. Then she beat me up.

Brown: Do you know why?

Ripley: We kinda spoke about it, but not in full. Why didn't you ask her while you were interrogating her? Oh right, because she was too busy-

[Cut off Ripley abruptly] Brown: I did ask her.

Ripley: Oh. So why did you ask me then? You already knew why.

Brown: I wanted to hear your side of it.

Ripley: She told me it was because I was saying stuff like she isn't loyal to SPYDER and to convince them she was loyal, she beat me up. Erica told me that it was because SPYDER already suspected her wavering loyalty and if they thought she was a double agent, her plan would be compromised.

Brown: So you figured this out much later, right, seeing that she told you she was initially working for SPYDER.

Ripley: Yes. Duh. You kinda answered your own question.

Brown [ignored him]: So what happened then?

Ripley: I woke up in this hospital type thing. Joshua wanted to film this hostage video so he pushed me into the room with this office chair as a makeshift wheelchair. We filmed in as a video call with the now former CIA director John Tyson. As he wheeled me out, I stepped on the brake of the chair and I feel right on my face, while stealing his phone. I used it to call Zoe from spy school and we devised a plan to escape. I used pillows to escape out of a window. Long story short, I was about to escape with Zoe and Mike but we got caught by Erica. She brought us in and there was a video call with some people, including Erica's mom. Erica got mad at her mom and just as I thought Erica was gonna shoot me, she shot over my shoulder and hit Joshua. She was working for the good guys the entire time, as like a double agent. The CIA didn't know about it so it was a sorta rogue mission. Everyone actually thought she went to the dark side. But it worked out in the end so it's fine.

Brown: So do you think Agent Hale is a psychopath?

Ripley [shocked]: A what?!

Brown [deadpan]: A psychopath. Someone not mentaly sane.

Ripley [even more appalled]: Why in the world would I think she was a phycopath?!

Brown: It makes sense, actually. She used you for a hostage and as bait. She risked many other people's lives, even the director of the CIA, for her own agendas. Heck, she beat you up to prove something to the bad guys! People who are sane don't do that. Agent Hale would do anything she can to make her own mission a success, at the risk of other people.

Ripley: Doesn't that just make her a good agent?

Brown: Prehapes. But where is her moral code?

Ripley [defensive]: Sometimes you have to make one sacrifice to save many others.

Brown [condescending]: I'm guessing she told you that. Figures.

Ripley: Erica didn't tell me anything!

Brown: I'm going to tell you something, Agent Ripley: coming from a highly successful CIA agent-

Ripley snorted

Brown [annoyed]: Like I was saying, coming from a highly successful CIA agent-

Ripley snorted once more

Brown [very annoyed and slightly offended]: I know that 90% of missions don't end with any battles or fights. Most missions don't need to make sacrifices and all good agents, myself included, tries to make sure everyone on the mission ends up alive. Most good agents make sure their partner is alive at the very least. Erica does none of that. She won't be very successful in the long run, making rash, impulsive decisions at the risk of other's lives.

Ripley: She'll be way more successful than you are right now, that's for sure.

Brown [offended and mad]: Excuse me but know your place, agent. I am the one conducting the interrogation here! Your fate is in my hands and-

Ripley [flattly]: No it isn't.

Brown: AND I won't be disrespected by you and that other psychotic brat. We are done here!

Agent Brown then stormed across the room and grabbed his coat and went to the door. He intended some sort of dramatic exit but the door was locked. He then banged on the door, shouting profanity while Agent Ripley laughed in his chair.

Another agent came to open it and Agent Brown stormed out. Ripley got up and left a few seconds after Brown. Agent Brown then went back into the room as he forgot his keys. Ripley was still outside.

Note from transcriber Agent James Leroy: That is what occured at the end of the interrogation segment. However, due to the cameras surrounding the area, I transcribed what occurred directly after the interrogation of Agent Ripley, thinking it was noteworthy.

Agent Erica Hale [who was waiting outside the door]: Hey Ben how was it?

Ripley: That guy Brown is crazy. He called you a psychopath.

Hale [blinked]: A what?

Ripley: A psychopath.

Hale: Does he seriously need another face beating?

Agent Hale then proceed to storm into the interrogation room where Agent Brown currently was. Let's just say, in the end, Agent Cash Brown was on medical leave for the rest of the month.
