Chapter 16
1.3K views! Is my story that good? I honestly thought I'd be done after like, 4 chapters. Enjoy chapter 16! I'll bring in the action pretty soon.
Ben's POV
"How are we going to locate the exact area of where it is?" Erica asked the next morning while we sat at a table in the restaurant in the lower floor, eating breakfast.
"I don't know," I replied, setting my glass of orange juice down on the table. "She should be pretty traceable, right?"
We were talking about where Kristy and the other members of RATT may be holed up in. After detailed searching on Erica's laptop the previous night, we had discovered that Kristy was in central Lanai and not that far away from the hotel.
"Isn't Zoe good with computers?" Erica asked. "We should ask her if she has any intel."
I sent off a text to Zoe, who was still in her room. Mike and Jawa had already come downstairs for breakfast and gone back upstairs long before us. She responded immediately.
ME: You Awake? See if you can find intel on location details.
ZOE: on it. I got some stuff.
"She's on it," I said. We finished breakfast and headed back upstairs, where Mike was waiting for us outside the room he shared with Zoe and Jawa.
"Come on in," he said, and we followed him inside, where we found Zoe vigorously tapping at the keyboard. "Zoe found something."
"I've located the exact spot where she is. It's here." She pointed to a series of numbers that I immediately recognized as the latitude and longitude of Lanai.
20.816686749° N, 156.92764523° W.
"We need to punch in these numbers onto a GPS, but it won't let me download," she replied.
"Ben, this is on you," Jawa said from under the covers.
I quickly committed the numbers to memory. "I'm done."
"Great," Erica said. "Let's get to work."
Mike rented us a minivan and we all piled in. Erica punched in the numbers and we set off. It was only about ten minutes from Hotel Lanai.
Erica came to a stop outside a small building, about three stories high. It had large glass windows, like an office building. "This is it."
We all got off the car and headed to the entrance.
"If RATT is a secret evil consortium of evildoers, why is their building so out in the open?" Mike asked.
"Because that's not the RATT base," both Jawa and Erica said at the same time.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Remember our adventures with SPYDER?" Erica reminded. "They made it look like it was in plain sight, except it wasn't. When we took them down once and for all, it was an underground base. On all the surveillance missions we've ever gone on, the people we're after are always a step ahead of us. To level it out we need to be two steps ahead of our current position."
"What's your point?" Zoe asked. I already understood what she was trying to say.
"Kristy may know or may not know that we're after her," I said. "I doubt she even knows I'm a spy."
Mike came forward. "Kristy controls such a powerful consortium. How hard would it be to get intel on a person who lived with her for three years?" he asked.
"True," Erica said, "but the rest of us are complete mysteries. Ben didn't know us back then. So now all we have to do is find a loophole. Find a secret trapdoor. Something that leads to more than what meets the eye."
We headed around the building and sure enough, it was a normal office building. We kept out guard up and had our weapons at the ready.
"Okay, everyone, split up. Use the radio earpieces if you need to contact anyone at all. Let the others know if you find something," Zoe said before disappearing around the corner. I headed one way, carefully running my hand along everything, checking for secret entrances.
"Guys! This way! To the edge of the right side of the building." I recognized that as Zoe's voice.
I ran over to where she was, and soon everyone else caught up with us too. Zoe had revealed a secret trapdoor on the floor of what appeared to be a manhole to everyone else.
"It's not a manhole," Zoe said. "There was a light and here's a staircase."
"Okay. Now we go down there and find out whatever's there," Jawa said and went in, followed by Mike and Erica. I went down next and Zoe was last, making sure to shut the door. Erica produced a headlamp from her utility belt and flipped it on. We made our way down the stairs.
Zoe looked uneasy. I figured it was the stench, so I continued down.
"Zoe, are you okay?" I heard Erica ask. "You look nauseated."
"Oh, it's nothing," Zoe said, but I wasn't ready to buy it. "We're going to take down an organization, and that's sort of scary. Isn't it always?"
She gave a small, nervous laugh. Erica shot me a questioning look as she landed swiftly on her feet. I shrugged.
"Okay, where does this lead?" I asked.
Jawa immediately stood straighter. "That way!" he said, almost too immediately. Mike raised his eyebrows at him.
"How do you know?" Mike asked. Jawa was caught off-guard, but he quickly regained his composure, which again struck me as odd. Erica and Mike appeared confused as well.
"There's a light coming from that side," Jawa quickly said. I nodded, still unconvinced and followed him.
Suddenly we heard voices. Very distant ones. I recognized one of them as Kristy's.
"My sister will be here in a while, everyone," I heard her say. "She told me she was coming. She'll bring the other tall guy too."
I looked to Erica. She flattened herself against the wall and headed towards the door. Zoe stepped in front of her with Jawa in tow. Both of them seemed confident and nervous at the same time. I shot them a dirty look, but they ignored me as they simply opened the door, not minding the fact that members of an all-powerful organization were conversing in there. Kristy whipped her head around to see us. Her face went from shock to surprise upon seeing me.
Zoe pulled a gun out, and so did Jawa. Mike, Erica and I immediately reached for ours too, but we were stopped when two guns faced us.
Zoe and Jawa aimed their guns at us. I stared at them, gawking in surprise. What the-?
"This is the Erica I told you about," Zoe snarled in voice I had never heard her use. "And you know Ben. Here's the other dimwit Mike."
We all threw our hands up.
Kristy laughed. "These fools? Ben? You? How could you be so foolish? This was a trap. Your two friends fooled you. I thought you'd be smarter than this for a CIA agent. Come on."
"Kristy-" I began, but she cut me off.
"Your friends led you to steal the documents. You thought I didn't know your status as an agent? Of course you didn't. Yet you were stupid enough to come here, led by two of my best agents here," Kristy sneered.
"Jawa, Zoe," Erica began. "What's all this?"
"This," Jawa said, "is called justice."
"Bring them in, Zoe," Kristy said. "They need to deserve a better punishment than standing in the doorway."
Zoe's response threw me off. As well as Erica and Mike.
"Of course, dear sister."
There you go!!!!
