Chapter 10
Two Chapters in a day! I'm making up for making you all wait. My thumbs are going to hurt sooooo bad.
Ben's POV
I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I warily glanced at the called ID. Zoe. I picked it up.
"Ben!" she squealed. "Guess who's here!"
I leapt to my feet. "Jawa?"
I could hear laughing at the other end, then Zoe resumed. "That's Mike and Jawa laughing their heads off. Come on!"
I ran downstairs. Alexander, who had just come from the hospital this morning, was sipping coffee in the living room. He had a big bandage running across his chest near the bullet wound. Since Catheirne was still on MI6 duty, I assumed that the humming in the kitchen was Erica.
"I'm off to Mike's!" I hollered, grabbing my shoes and slipping them on.
"Wait for me!" Erica yelled back from the kitchen, then caught up to me. There was a sandwich in her mouth. She handed me a granola bar and a sandwich. I shoved them in my mouth running to the car.
Erica drove the car so fast we nearly slammed into another car. "What's the emergency? Did RATT get to Zoe's house? Is someone captured? Did they get a lead?"
I laughed. "You should seriously pick up some other hobbies, Erica."
She leaned over and playfully swatted me, nearly colliding into another car. "Let me focus on the road, Ben," she said between giggles.
We parked outside their house and ran to the doorstep. Erica clutched my hand tight. We had officially begun our relationship yesterday night.
Zoe swung the door open. On the couch sat a tall, muscular and handsome guy.
"Jawa!" I yelled. He hopped off the couch and ran over to me. We pulled each other into a tight embrace.
"Ben! It's been so long!" he said, squeezing my arms and looking at me. "You've grown so tall."
"Hey, Jawa," Erica said with a smile. "Good to see you."
We all made our way to the couch except Jawa, who stood there staring at Erica like she was an alien.
"Is this still Erica Hale the great?" he asked, looking from her to us.
I nodded. "The one and only." I bent over to kiss her forehead.
"The same Ice Queen?"
"You bet."
Jawa nodded understandingly before sitting on the couch.
"I filled Jawa in with all the information that we know already," Zoe said. "Which really isn't that much."
"Then we're good to go!" I exclaimed. I had gotten my passport that morning and it was in my pocket. Erica had hers too, as well as Jawa. Mike and Zoe ran upstairs to get theirs.
"How are we getting there?" Jawa asked.
"I've scheduled a private jet for us at the CIA," Erica explained. "Speaking of which, we have to go now."
Mike and Zoe caught up to us just as we exited the house. Erica took control of Mike's SUV and I sat shotgun. Everyone else piled into the back and we headed to the airport. Erica informed us that there would be a private jet waiting for us at the airstrip.
About half an hour later, we reached the airstrip and stopped to discuss plans again.
"Do we have a pilot?" I asked.
"Pretty sure we do," Mike said. "Right?"
Zoe shrugged. "If not, then I'm totally doing it."
"I'm pretty sure we have a pilot," Erica said. Our jet was ready so we entered it.
We entered the plane and immediately groaned. It was nothing like what we had imagined. I was expecting cushioned chairs and air conditioning but to my absolute surprise there were hard seats with no covering and zero air conditioning. There was no carpet on the floor and everything looked old.
"Seriously?" Jawa cried out in disgust. "This is totally not what I was expecting. Can't the CIA afford better jets?"
"Unfortunately, since we're only going to Hawaii, we don't get a fancy jet," Erica said with a sigh.
There was no pilot as well, so Zoe made a dash for the cockpit. Erica beat her to it and grabbed the controls.
We all grabbed seats. I yelped with surprise and jumped up as soon as I sat down. To my ultimate shock and horror, there was a big, wiggly spider crawling on my back. I shrieked in horror. Zoe screamed as well, and Jawa was frightened as well. Erica and Mike were the only calm ones. Slowly Mike made his way towards me.
"Don't move," Mike instructed. I stayed as still as I could, not wanting the spider to bite me or harm me of any sort. It was only a second later that I realized that Mike was holding a gun. Now I was really scared. To my relief, he shot the spider with his gun. It flopped on the floor beside me, dead. I retched at the sight and averted my eyes. It was hideous.
Erica rolled her eyes and smiled, amused. "Now are we ready for takeoff?"
"Yes, ma'am!" Mike said with mock salute. Zoe giggled and we sat in our seats.
Erica got the jet in the air and turned on the autopilot. Then she exited the cockpit and headed to us.
"What are we going to do once we get to Hawaii?" I asked.
"We land the jet and..." Erica's voice trailed off. She smacked her forehead in frustration then swore under her breath. "I forgot to think of a place to land the jet."
With that, she ran back into the cockpit with a map that had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I could hear her complain in frustration.
Jawa broke the awkward silence. "So...it's been a long time since I've gone on a mission," he said.
"What was your last?" Zoe asked.
"Scandinavia four years ago," Mike and Jawa said at the same time.
I looked to Mike, confused. He knew about this.
He smiled. "I was on that same mission."
"Wait, does this mean we're a go without Chip?" I asked.
"I guess," Jawa said. "I mean, he's not picking up his calls or anything. The last time I saw him was at graduation."
Zoe nodded. "Me too."
"Oh well," Mike said. "Let's just hope that nothing goes wrong."
That's when things really went wrong.
ENJOYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
