The Dare

Okay! So I read this amazing oneshot by @LexyPlayz2 where Ben and Erica went on a date up in the Washington Monument for a dare and it was super good; go check it out :) So, I decided to make a version of it but all credit of the specific original idea goes to her ofc.

July 4th

Ben's POV:
That day was the day.

I was so terribly nervous.

If anything went wrong my life would literally be over.

Well, not literally I guess. My life was in danger a lot and this wasn't one of the times, and this wasn't one. So not literally. But basically.

I stood there in front of her door shaking.

It all started at truth or dare a few nights before.

*Flashback*

It was July 2nd at around midnight. Well technically it was pretty much July 3rd then, but you get the point.

We were all seated in a circle in Zoe's dorm.

She'd practically forced us all to go there to play truth or dare the day after we got back from a mission.

So there we were.

Erica resisted more than usual but eventually gave in like clockwork.

It seemed odd how much she protested this time but we all just ignored it.

We played for a while until Zoe asked Erica.

"Truth or dare?"

Erica froze but quickly regained her composure and glared at her.

Zoe shrugged and asked again. "Truth or dare?"

aErica looked like she was going to kill her. She gave a subtle shake of the head saying she wasn't going to answer her.

"Erica. Truth or dare?" She smirked.

They were both acting weird and I wondered why.

I racked my brain.

What would tick Erica off this much?

Ohhh. They had girl talk.

"Erica if you don't answer I'll just choose for you."

She sighed, not even remotely trying to hide her annoyance.

"Dare."

Zoe's usual smile widened into a mischievous smirk. I swear I heard Erica gulp.

"Thank you." She looked to the guys. "What should we make her do boys?"

They were all silent for a second before they all turned and looked at me with smiles matching Zoe's.

I blushed slightly at the sudden change of attention and gulped.

"Hi Ben." Zoe grinned.

"Uh... hi?" I shifted uncomfortably. "Erica. Help? Please?"

She remained silent but I knew she knew what they were going to say by the look on her face.

"Ben?" She asked to regain my attention.

"Zoe?"

"How would you like to take Erica on a date?"

I turned bright red and started sweating a little. I tried to speak but could only stutter. And not a little. Like Paul Lee level stuttering.

"Well I uh... uh... uh... I... um... you see... I... uh... Erica? Help."

She didn't answer me though. She was busy arguing with Zoe in the opposite corner of the room.

The room wasn't tiny but it was small enough that I could hear them if I really tried anyways. But she didn't seem to realize I could so I stayed silent and listened.

"Zoe I told you no."

"And I told you to tell him. To talk to-"

"No one tells me what to do."

"Him and you didn't." She finished.

"Because I'm in charge of myself."

"Well as your friend I'm telling you, you need to talk to him Erica."

"I don't need to do anything."

"You do."

"Why?"

"You can't just avoid him and ignore your feelings."

"I can and I will."

"But you can't. And you won't."

"And why is that?"

"As for how you can't, you were clearly jealous when Sophie was flirting with him on the mission. Now, he didn't notice that time because he's clueless and didn't want to get his hopes up. But he will eventually figure it out. And when he does he's going to want to talk to you about it."

Erica took this in.

"And how I won't?"

"Because I'm not going to let you."

Erica rolled her eyes.

"Erica it's one night. He's really sweet and you might even... have fun." She said, mock shocked.

"I'm well aware he's sweet."

"Then stop whining and get over it. You're 17. Act like it." She joked.

"Zoe."

"Erica."

"I... I can't." She said sadly.

"Why not?" Zoe asked concerned.

"I just... I just can't okay?"

"Okay. But if you need to talk, I'm listening."

"I... I'm kinda..." She stopped and thought whether to keep going or give up. Luckily, she continued. "Kinda scared. This is all relatively new to me. I've never been on an "official" date or whatever. Joshua and I hung out but it was never official. And then after he was gone I didn't let anyone near me."

"Until Ben."

"Until Ben." She said quietly.

"Oh. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I'm just not good with emotions."

"Ben seems to understand emotions well enough for the two of you." Zoe joked.

"Maybe. Probably. But the point is what do I do? Like he's gonna try to talk to me and I'm not gonna know what to say."

"Whatever you want."

"But like how do I tell him?"

"Don't think of it like that. Think of it like a mission. You're excellent with those. Your mission is to tell him. To talk to him and just go spend time with him. Just be honest."

"Okay. I'll- try that."

"But I think you should be good. Zoe seems adamant about it." Mike said.

"Huh? Oh uh yeah. Definitely."

"Were you even listening?" Mike laughed.

"Um I was. Just not to you..." I pointed my head towards the girls.

He laughed and patted me on the back.

"It's okay. I was just saying you should be good to go with Erica. Zoe was pretty sure about it. And Erica likes you better than anyone else so if anyone's got a shot, it's you. Shoot."

"Okay." I smiled. "Thanks bro."

"No problem man."

Erica and Zoe started walking over.

"Just please don't tell them I was listening."

"My lips are sealed." He smirked.

"Thanks."

"Don't worry about it. Here she comes."

They got to us and we stood up.

"Hey." I said with a smile.

"Hey." Erica repeated.

Mike and Zoe walked over to her mini-couch thing to watch tv. Chip and Jawa joined them. But they all looked back at us and smiled, though Erica didn't see them since she was facing the other way.

"Well I'm going back to my dorm." She said as she started to leave quickly.

I gently grabbed her hand and she stopped.

"May I walk you there?"

She thought for a second.

"Yeah. Okay."

We started walking and I opened the door for her.

I glanced at the others one last time to see them smirking again.

I rolled my eyes at them and we continued to walk.

"Erica?"

"Yeah?"

"If you don't want to go I'll just tell them you did. I understand." I fake-smiled.

"Nah it's okay."

"Oh, okay." I smiled. For real this time.

"Plus Zoe already said that any dare she said I had to do, I had to. And that she'd find out if I didn't so I shouldn't get any ideas."

"Oh... okay."

"I didn't mean it that way." She said quickly.

"Oh. Okay."

"Are you gonna say anything but 'oh, okay?' There are other responses." She joked.

"I know that," I laughed. "Where do you want to go?"

"I don't know. Surprise me."

"Oh okay."

She playfully punched me in the arm.

"What?" I said defensively with a grin.

"You know what."

"Huh."

"What?"

"I thought his name was you know who." I joked.

"You're such a dork."

"Thank you." I smirked. "If you don't know where, how about when?"

"I don't know. Maybe Friday night?"

"Whatever you want. I'll pick you up at 8?"

"Perfect."

We walked quietly.

"So..." She said awkwardly.

"So..."

"So."

"Is something wrong Erica?"

"Not really."

"Not really?"

"Not really."

"Anything I can do?"

"Thanks, but I doubt it."

"Try me."

"It's nothing."

"Whatever. But if you want to tell me, I'm always listening."

"Thanks."

"Absolutely."

We were in the hallway leading to her room. I looked down and realized we were still holding hands. I blushed a little. Erica looked over at me and realized I was red. So she looked down and realized we were holding hands as well. She turned red so I started to pull my hand out of hers slowly.

I already knew she was nervous, so I wasn't going to do anything that might make her uncomfortable. Even though I really wanted to hold her hand.

She looked at me confused and a little hurt.

"Nonono I was just letting go because you seemed uncomfortable. I wasn't trying to be- I was just- I wanted to hold your hand but I don't want to make you uncomfortable."

"Oh." She smiled ever so slightly and the hurt vanished, much to my delight. "Okay."

She took my hand again with a little shy smile.

We got to her door and she opened it. She paused and looked at me.

"Thanks Ben."

"No problem. See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah. See you tomorrow."

*End of ridiculously long flashback*

So now you're all filled in.

I was standing in front of her door in light gray shorts, a light gray Champion sweatshirt, and Vans, roses in hand. (Image at the top+roses)

I was super nervous because I knew she was worried. Which meant one wrong move could ruin it. So I had to be careful. I told her to dress casually and be prepared for a little walk. And to bring her key-ring. She was confused but agreed. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. I heard her coming to the door and smiled as she opened it. She was standing there in a bright dark blue shirt and white shorts. She hadn't done her hair or put on makeup. She didn't need to. I found myself staring into her eyes, breathless.

"Hey." I managed.

"Hey."

Okay so that's part one! Part 2 is coming out later today.
