Chapter 7
Our jaws drop. Standing in front of our eyes, were Erica and Zoe in dinosaur costumes reeing at everyone that passed. I'm kidding:) Thank you @Hungry_Hankers for the story though. Actual story starts below.
Our jaws drop.
They walked towards us like models on a runway. Orion and Alexander stared at Catherine in disbelief. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught them both drooling a bit. Mike and I had our eyes going between Erica and Zoe. Erica was wearing a denim, long sleeve dress that was tied in the middle. When she saw me, her eyebrows shot up. This shocked me, as Erica was almost never surprised. Her eyebrows quickly came back down as fast as they went up. Zoe ran up to me, carrying a mesmerizing perfume with her. It smelled like roses with a touch of vanilla. She had on a green dress that matched perfectly with her eyes. I was surprised when she threw her arms around me.
"Is that you Ben?!?" She said excited and shocked at the same time. You look so cute!" She squealed. I was skeptical. Girls never compliment my looks.
"Not that you didn't look cute before." She added quickly. "Just...wow. You even did your hair!" She said running her hands through my hair. I turned redder and looked away. Both Mike and Erica didn't seem too happy with Zoe doing this.
"Can we just leave already?" They asked together a bit annoyed.
"Oh yes, of course dears!" Chirped Catherine. "We wouldn't want our lunch becoming supper, would we?" She joked.
The French restaurant was the fanciest place I've ever been too. It was clean and spotless, and we had an astounding view of the entire city. There was an orchestra that played softly in the center as well. We blended right in, everyone dressed just as nicely as us. After ordering drinks, we all went to use the washroom. I came back after 54 seconds. Surprisingly, the next person to come back was Zoe. She slowly sat down next to me. She turned her head to face me.
"Ben, you didn't seem to believe me when I complimented you earlier." She started.
"What?" I asked puzzled.
"You were skeptical. You always think of yourself as a nerd, but I don't think of you like that." She insisted.
"Oh. Sorry, I didn't know if you were just saying I was cute just to be nice." I shrugged.
"Ben, have some more confidence. That's one of the reasons why Mike appears so attractive." She said. I wasn't particularly fond with her calling my best friend attractive.
"Thank you. You um, look stunning today too." I said embarrassed.
She blushed. We were just inches away from each other. I came a bit closer.
"Do you still like Erica?" She whispered. I stopped. It was such an out of the blue question. I wasn't sure how to answer.
"Um, I—" I started.
"If you're over her, can we—" she started to ask.
"Ahem." someone cleared their throat right beside me. It was Erica. Zoe and I looked away from each other and became extremely interested in the menus. What was Zoe planning to ask me, I wondered in my head.
The others came back shortly after and sat down. After everyone else ordered, it was finally my turn.
The waitress looked at me and smiled. "What can I get for you today, sir?" She asked. Wow, everyone is calling me sir today.
"Um, I've never eaten at a French restaurant before so..." I trailed off.
"Get Croque Monsieur," recommended Zoe. She smiled, "I'm having that." Croque Monsieur was a ham and cheese sandwich. But better, because French always makes it better.
"Why don't you try Salade Lyonnaise?" suggested Erica. "I'm having that as well." Salade Lyonnaise was a salad with crispy bacon, (Erica insisted that there would not be bacon) a poached egg, (Erica grudgingly accepted the poached egg when Catherine insisted she needed more protein) served with a warm vinaigrette as well. It sounded like a much healthier alternative to what Zoe offered.
Zoe and Erica looked at me expectantly. It made me uncomfortable. They made it seem like picking what I wanted to eat was an important choice. Which, obviously wasn't. It was just deciding what went in my stomach. Nothing more than that.
"Can I have something else besides those options?" I asked meekly.
Zoe looked offended. "Is my Croque Monsieur not good enough for you? Do you not like it?" She asked narrowing her eyes. It was a bit scary.
"No, no, Croque Monsieur sounds wonderful." I quickly replied reassuring her. Erica shot me a look. I peeked up.
"But," I added quickly, "Salade lyonnaise seems healthier."
Zoe looked at me. "Yes, but is Salade Lyonnaise better than Croque Monsieur?" Do you like Salade Lyonnaise more?" She asked.
"I like those two dishes equally. Can I have both?" I asked. They looked mortified when they heard this.
"No!" Zoe and Erica said quite aggressively. It made me flinch.
I gave them both a confused look. "Why does it matter so much?" I asked.
They both gave me a what an idiot look. I had no idea why it was so important. It was just food! Everyone at the table looked at Zoe and Erica back and forth as if they were watching a ping pong tournament.
"Just pick one!" said Zoe and Erica in unison.
"Fine, fine," I said. I licked my lips nervously and looked at the waiter. "Um, I want to have the...
