Driving to the hospital
5:30 pm

I was silent for most of the ride home. Mostly because I was excited for tonight. Levi said that he and the others are going to meet with me again. We were finally going to solve the code. Well, if my idea works.

Mom was silent too. She probably had a very busy day at work. She must be tired. Everything has been hard for her for the past two days. Her eyes were a little red from either tiredness or crying. Maybe both. Her posture was a little slumped and she kept yawning every few minutes.

So I decided to cheer her up a bit. " How was your day?" I asked. Then I realized a little too late that that probably wasn't the best thing to ask at the moment. She looked towards me. Her eyes were filled with frustration.

" Is it not obvious?" She asked. " My day was absolutely terrible! And it has been for the past two days!" She yelled so loud, I was afraid the windows in the car might shatter.

She took a few deep breaths and calmed herself a bit. " Sorry Jacie. I didn't mesnt to yell, again. I'm just tired that's all." She said apologetically. I nodded and stayed silent for the rest of the ride.

There were a lot of nurses in dad's hospital room. They were checking his heart rate and running some other diagnoses. We had to wait outside. Mom was on her phone and I started on homework.

I started thinking about the coordinates. If we find out where they lead to, what do we do next? I surely can't defeat a whole organization with just a few teammates. I don't even know how to fight. Although my dad did teach me how to punch and shoot a BB gun. But that was it.

I shook my head. Thinking about these things is not going to get me anywhere. It would just make me worry even more. I focused on my homework.

One of the nurses came out and gave us a report on dad. " He is doing just fine. Our medications are starting to kick in slowly. Just a few more weeks and he'll be on his feet again." Mom nodded. " That's good news. Thank you."

We walked into the hospital room. Dad was laying on the bed and snoring softly. Mom took a seat beside him and got out her laptop. She started working on it. I resumed my homework. It was mostly History.

I answered the question and went on to the next. I continued like that for the next hour. When I finished, I put everything away in my bag and looked at mom. She was still working on her computer. I was starving. I hadn't eaten since lunch.

I got up and went to the fridge. It was packed with food. I grabbed a bag of pizza rolls and heated it up in the microwave that was right beside the fridge.

" What are you eating?" Mom asked. I turned around and faced her. She was finished working on her laptop.

" Pizza Rolls." I replied.
" Oh ok." She said.

She glanced at the clock. It was now 7:45. It was almost time for bed.

" Hurry up and eat so you can take a shower. Then go to bed." She said.

" Ok."

MIDNIGHT

I waited for Levi to knock. I've been waiting for hours now. Mom was now sleeping by my dad's side. Dad was still snoozing along. I was sitting on the couch waiting and watching. Then, I heard a knock. It was a lot quieter than before. I actually misheard the first knock. The second knock was a little louder. I got up and opened the door.

Sure enough, Levi and the others were waiting outside. I slipped out the door and closed it.

" Hey Jacie." Levi said.
" Hi Levi." I said.

We stared in each others eyes for a second. His majestic green eyes were staring into my light brown eyes. There was something about Levi that I never saw in him before. He has always been there for me. But over the past few days, he's become very protective of me.

" How do we solve the code?" He asked. Everyone looked at me expectantly. I pulled out my phone and showed them the coordinates that I found and the coordinates that they found.

" These are the coordinates. In the first one it says, N= 19.4536(2). What if we multiply 19.4536 by 2?" I asked. Everyone looked to Erica. Erica thought for a moment. Then she looked to Ben. " Solve it." Ben nodded and got to thinking. " 19.4536 x 2 equals 38.9072." He said. Then he solved the other coordinates. " 38.51845 x 2 equals 77.0369." He said. Then he gasped in alarm.

" What?" We all asked at once.
" That's the longitude and latitude of Washington DC!" He exclaimed. " The N means north! And the W means west! SPYDER is trying to attack Washington DC!" He yelled. Panic surged through us.

" We have to warn the President!" Zoe exclaimed.

" Forget the President. Warn the CIA first!" Mike said.

We all looked to Erica for help. She was the only one that seemed calm about the whole revelation. In fact, she seemed thrilled. It was like she was having fun out of all of the chaos. Is she always excited to go on super dangerous missions?

" I'll tell grandpa first. He'll want to hear this. We can't tell the entire CIA yet. There are still some undercover agents on the loose. Then, we'll see about warning the President." She said. We all nodded.

Then, to my surprise, Erica smiled. It wasn't like the smile she acted out in the car. This smile was genuine.

" Nice work, Jacie. You just solved a top secret code that we've been trying to solve for weeks. Your help has truly benefited this team." She said with surprising kindness that I never knew she had in her. It left me shocked. Everyone else was shocked too.

" Th-Thanks." I said. I smiled too. I was glad that I was helping my team.

" Erica, are you ok?" Zoe asked.
" Yea. It's like you totally changed." Mike said.

" I'm fine. And I didn't change." She said. Although there was a slight pause in her voice as she said this. It didn't sound very convincing.

" Sure you didn't." Mike said. Erica gave him a cold stare. Mike quickly backed down. " Ok. You didn't change. Still the Ice Queen." He said. Then he mockingly bowed. " My most sincere apologies your majesty." He said. Zoe, Ben, and Levi cracked up.

Erica rolled her eyes. " How did I get stuck with such a crazy team?" She asked herself. Although she said it in a teasing tone. We all laughed again.

I was starting to really like my team. No let me rephrase that. I was starting to really like my friends. They were all my friends.

And they were all fine with me being their friend.
