The Hallways of school
11:35 am
School wasn't as busy as it was yesterday. It was nice and easygoing. There were no interruptions and no one was misbehaving. It was one of those rare school days where everything was going perfectly fine.
Until I ran into Caleb Bubar.
He was on his way to lunch when I, unfortunately, ran into him. Literally. His body was built like a brick wall. I bounced off of him, and landed on my butt. Caleb didn't seem to be phased by this. He actually seemed to be amused that I had run into him.
" Well, if it isn't the school nerd. I'm guessing your on your way to the library again." He said tauntingly. I really wasn't in the mood for Caleb. After all, he is an evil operative working for SPYDER.
" Yes, I was. And now your standing in my way. Please move." I said. Although I didn't sound quite as menacing as him, I still said it in a, ' I'm-not-afraid-of-you' tone.
" Ha! Like I'm going to do that. It's going to take more than that to get me out of the way." He said in a more menacing tone than before. Then, his eyes softened.
" Actually, I need to talk with you." He said. My blood ran cold. I already knew what he was going to say next. And it wasn't going to be good.
Next thing I knew, I was pinned to the wall. Caleb kept a firm grip on my shoulders. His cocky grin faded and his face was full of anger and hate. He leaned in closer and whispered, " I know you were there that day in the computer lab. Spying on me now are we?" His grip hardened on my shoulders. I'm pretty sure that my shoulders were now starting to bruise if they haven't already.
I tried to scream for help, but Caleb held up a threatening fist. " Scream and I'll pound your face in." I stopped screaming instantly. Caleb's demeanor can change so quickly. First he was all cocky and stuff and now he's all mad and angry. Is that a thing with spies?
" What did you see and why were you stalking me?" He asked still holding up his fist.
I tried to think of a good lie. Maybe I could get him to believe that I wasn't the person that he saw. " I don't know what you're talking about. I wasn't there!" I said. But, it was very clear that I was lying. I really need to get better at lying.
" I'm not stupid enough to fall for that. Now tell me the truth." His grip hardened even more. I could feel my shoulders starting to break. I needed to get out of here. I looked around frantically trying to find an exit or a person or something! But, I found nothing.
" Looking around for an escape? Ha! I never knew you could be so cowardly." He said. I glared at him. I am many things. A coward isn't one of them.
" The only coward here is you." I said. This infuriated him even more. His already hardened grip grew tighter. Finally, one of my shoulders gave out. A loud POP echoed through the hall. Caleb smirked and I screamed. It felt like a thousand needles were piercing my bones! How could someone squeeze a person this hard?
Caleb clapped his hand over my mouth to muffle out my screams. His smirk grew wider.
" See what happens when you misbehave?" He asked. He put his fist back up so that it was in front of my face again. " I'm not a coward. Now answer my question or I'll break your other shoulder. What did you see and why?" His left hand tightened around my unbroken shoulder.
I still refused to tell him. I wasn't going to tell him what I saw and why. Because if I told him, I would blow Levi's cover. And I wasn't going to do that to my best friend.
" No." I said. Caleb prepared to shatter my other shoulder.
Before he could however, a voice yelled at him from behind.
" Leave her alone Caleb!"
The voice was all too familiar.
Caleb turned around and found a Levi Sacriman standing right behind him. He was glaring daggers at him. " What did you just say to me?" Caleb asked. His grip softened a bit on my shoulder.
" You heard me. Let. Her. Go. NOW!" Levi yelled. He put his left foot in front of his right, and got into a fighting stance. His right fist was pulled back while his left hand was in front. His posture was straight, and his eyes were focused on his opponent. Caleb laughed.
" Is that little pose supposed to scare me?" He taunted. He wheeled on Levi, finally letting go of my un-broken shoulder. It was still sore, but it wasn't as bad as my other shoulder.
" You think that you can beat me in a fight?" He said. I glared at him again. No one underestimates my friend. Levi may be smaller, but he is smarter.
" I don't think I can. I know I can." Levi said. Caleb lounged forward. He threw his fist towards Levi, aiming for his head. Levi just simply ducked under his arm, and punched him in the stomach. Caleb doubled over. Levi used this to his advantage. He punched him in his face and tripped him. Then, he got on top of his chest and pinned him to the ground.
" Don't ever come near her again or I'll CRUSH YOU!" He yelled. Caleb nodded. When Levi got up, he stood up and ran down the hallway like the coward he was.
Levi walked towards me. His eyes quickly changed from rage to concern.
" Are you ok?" He asked. I was going to say yes, but then I remembered my shattered shoulder. I touched my shoulder and winced. It felt like it was on fire. " I think he broke my shoulder." I told him.
Levi gasped. " He did! I can see the bone sticking out." Sure enough, when I glanced at my shoulder, there was indeed a bone sticking out. I felt sick just looking at it.
" That's not good." Levi examined it. " We need to take you to the nurse." I quickly contradicted him. " No! Then she'll ask how I got it and then she'll report it to mom. We can't let mom know about this. She's already hurt enough." I said. I couldn't imagine mom's reaction if she found out about this. Dad was already in hospital. She didn't need to see me with a shattered shoulder.
" But Jacie, how are we going to hide the bone? It's very noticeable." He said. I looked at my shoulder again. I tried moving it, but I couldn't. It only resulted in more pain. I still refused to go to the nurse. " No. I'm not going to the nurse." Levi sighed. He knew I wouldn't give in. " Why are you so stubborn?" He asked. Then he took off his jacket and handed it to me.
" Wear this. It'll cover the bone." I took it and carefully put it on with Levi's help. Once we finished, Levi said, " We'll meet again tonight. Same time. Erica knows how to fix this." I looked up at him in shock. " She does!? How many things can this girl do?" Levi chuckled. " She studies for this stuff and practices how to do them just in case. That's all she ever does. That and sharpening her skills in the training room." He said.
" Seriously? That girl really needs a hobby." I said.
" Yes she sure does." Levi agreed. " But, it's a good thing she does these things or else our friends might not be here today." He said. I nodded. His friends had been on missions together and they probably would've been killed a thousand times over if it weren't for her.
The bell rang. It was time to go to our next class. Luckily, Levi was in the same class as me. We walked to our class together.
