12. FIGURED OUT
It was the second day inside the 5x5 the two of them had been crammed into. Their stomachs began rumbling at the hunger – despite having been only twenty four hours. They made up for it by smoking cigarettes, though all they had left was what Eva had snuck away from Ross, hiding the pack in between her bra.
Both Terrell and Eva had preferred the same brand, though right now trying out another one was their only option to get their stomach's to stop growling in desperation. Since they were smoking on an empty stomach, they would become light-headed and nauseous.
"I don't think I can control my hunger." Eva muttered, running a hand across her thick, black hair. Her eyes began to droop due to how tired she was – both from the lack of sleep and food.
"He can't keep us here forever, Eva. Just...please bear with it." Terrell replied, resting his back against the stone wall, staring up at the wired lid.
Eva shut her eyes, the temptation being hard to tame. She got up from the ground, taking only a step until she was near Terrell. She sat down, resting her head on his shoulder and letting her tears escape.
"I'm sorry." She spoke quietly, sniffling faintly.
"No," He knitted his brows, confused as to why Eva was apologizing. "Don't say sorry, none of this is your fault." He shook his head, holding onto her hand with a firm grip. "We'll get out of here, please don't be upset."
Eva nodded, wiping her tears away with the tip of her index finger, resuming her heads resting position on his shoulder. The two only sat there in silence, staring at the blank wall right in front of them.
"I need to go really bad." Eva mumbled, biting down on her bottom lip as she applied pressure on her lower half, not wanting to wet herself inappropriately near him.
"The least he could've done was given us a bucket so we wouldn't have to hold it in all the time." Terrell stated, standing up. "How bad is it?"
"I just need to...let the liquids out." She replied.
Terrell actually contemplated for a moment, trying to figure out whether it was really necessary that the two urinate and defecate in such a congested space. The idea of the pungent smell almost made him gag a little, knowing how inhumane it would be to make the two suffer like this. However, it was also inhumane to force themselves to hold in the waste that was essential in getting out.
"Fine," He huffed. "But only if you pee, that way the sun would at least soak it up and it wouldn't be...there." He pointed to a random space.
Eva nodded, sighing in relief. Her bladder was almost full and it felt like it would've exploded, had it not been for Terrell's permission. She got up, folding up her dress and taking off her panties, putting them to the side.
Meanwhile, Terrell faced the wall – gulping at the smell already making its way around the space. To avoid it, he pinched his nose, breathing through his mouth.
"Alright," Eva stated rather shyly. She grabbed her panties, stepping to the side and putting them on. "I'm done."
Terrell turned around, his nose still pinched together.
"I suggest you go before I'm the one holding onto my nose." Eva joked, sighing as she sat down on the other end.
It was evident she was uncomfortable at the fact that she couldn't wash or wipe after she was finished urinating.

Terrell and Eva both took a nap, after the urination had been soaked up by the sun, which was a much longer process than the two anticipated. They were cuddled up together, on one side, providing warmth to the other person as the breeze of the night swirled around them.
Terrell awoke to the sound of what seemed to be heavy papers falling flat into their space, alerting him out of his sleep. His eyes were half shut, brows knitted in confusion at the sudden alarm. He rubbed them, getting a better view of what actually fell inside.
His eyes landed on a folder – manila in color from what the moonlight highlighted, protecting a bundle of papers. The edge of a pocket knife poked out, startling him once his gaze landed upon it. Nevertheless, he went to the other side from where he was before, right after looking at Eva who was in deep sleep.
He opened the folder, revealing police reports, crime scene photos, newspaper clippings and mugshots. Terrell made sure to go through the items carefully, wanting to fulfill his mind which had been aching to find out more about this folder once it'd landed inside.
The first document was a police report, describing what had happened in the perspective of 'Boyce T. Jenkins.' – Terrell's father. This struck him with surprise, not sure as to what his father would be making a police report about since Sleepy Hill was a quiet town.
As he read the report further, it soon made sense – this folder contained everything he needed to know about his sister, Kitty's, murder. His eyes scanned the document, moving onto the crime scene photos.
The blood stained décor brought back memories which Terrell wish Ross had gotten rid of during their experiments. Bile began to rise up, to which he responded by tucking the crime scene photos behind the police report.
His gaze soon landed upon the mugshots of the girl who'd done it. Her eyes filled with nothing but pure evil. The darkness from her dilated pupils indicated a bottomless black hole, while her eyes showed absolutely no remorse for the actions she'd been jailed for. And though the 'Act of Anonymity' allowed the underage defendant to be hidden in court as well as court records, the same didn't go for police mugshots and crime scene forensics.
It took him long to realize who this girl was, reading her name next to the mugshots – Eva M. Richards.
His jaw dropped in shock, not wanting to believe that she was the one who'd been behind his sister's murder. He felt as if the Eva in the mugshot and the one sleeping just 33 inches away from him were two complete strangers. Although his mind rushed through a million different excuses for her, the truth was much stronger in making more sense, not to mention the evidence in front of Terrell.
Soon enough, his blood began to boil, the horrific flashbacks of stumbling upon a house bathed in blood were forcing his hand to cut off that stupid tattoo he'd seen in the courthouse, being the only distinctive feature about his sister's killer at the time.
He grabbed the pocket knife, charging up to the girl.
"You fucking bitch!" Terrell exclaimed, holding onto her by the neckline of her dress, lifting her up and pinning her against the wall. "It was you this whole time!"
Eva's eyes were still heavy, but full of fear as he grabbed onto her. Her heart began to race, once her eyes landed upon the weapon he had in his grip.
"W-What do you mean?" She furrowed her brows, tears automatically beginning to pour out from her eyes.
"Don't act like you don't know. This was your plan from the start, wasn't it? Use me as an escape so you can go out murdering even more people?"
"What are you talking about?" Her voice became shaky, whimpering as his hand wrapped around her neck, beginning to tighten its grip.
"I swore to God I was going to cut that pathetic tattoo off your God damn wrist." His hand gripped onto her arm, holding the pocket knife blade against her wrist.
Suddenly, the flashbacks became unsuppressed from her mind, causing her to experience the vivid feeling of sneaking through the front door of a house, fast forwarding itself to the feeling of her teeth being sunk into human flesh, making contact with her lower jaw before tearing off the chunk and digesting it.
That's why I'm here... she thought to herself, realizing how much trouble she was in with the only man who was sane and willing enough to let her escape.
She attempted to yank her wrist away from Terrell, feeling the pain of her healing bones rushing through her right arm.
"Give me one fucking reason why I shouldn't cut your wrist open and leave you here to die." He roared, causing her to make intense eye contact with him while she subconsciously tried to wiggle her dainty wrist out of his grip.
Had she been jolted awake and talked to rationally, Eva would have been able to come up with thirty different reasons why he shouldn't kill her.
"L-Listen...no one is as sane as me out there and trust me – you won't get anywhere if you just leave me here to die." Eva spat, shaking in fear while an enraged Terrell looked back at her.
Despite vowing to avenge his sister's death, the man had tears in his eyes and running down his dark and smooth face. He was ashamed of having fallen for a killer – that too of his sister's.
Eva shook her head, hoping he would be able to change his mind.
"Please, don't do something so stupid, Terrell. You aren't going to get out of here without me and you know that."
Her words sounded somewhat sincere, but he took a sharp breath before resting the blade on her delicate skin, sinking it into her flesh as he forcefully pushed forward, watching the tattoo peel off. Eva's screams caused the birds of the night to flutter away in a panic, croaking to alert the others from resting on the wired lid.
