Chapter 7
Roman looked down at the ground as he walked, very aware of every space between him and Logan and incredibly aware of every time their hands brushed and neither pulled back. If he could just make a move and take Logan's hand when they next brushed-
"Are you alright?" Logan asked, drawing Roman out of his thoughts with a jolt. "You're very quiet."
Roman shrugged slowly. "Can't really think of anything to say."
Logan laughed. "This coming from the boy who's extended deliveries by many minutes just by talking."
Roman laughed a little and looked down. He shrugged again. "I don't know. Well, what's it like living outside Stonegate? It seems so different out here."
"It's really not." Logan said. "We still have to go into the village and get income and work but I guess we're a lot more in-tune with nature out here. I'm not sure, it sounds so silly when you try say it out loud."
Roman offered Logan a small smile. "I assure you, it's not." Logan looked at Roman and returned the smile. Something about it made Roman's heart seem to falter slightly and he looked down, blushing.
"You idiot, Roman." He thought. "Now he won't think you like him."
"Are you sure you're okay?" Logan asked and the compassion and worry in his voice made Roman's heart rise like a feather.
"I, um, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine." Logan raised his eyebrow at Roman before looking ahead, swinging his arms.
"What's the Spring Fete like?" He asked. "I've just never been and I was thinking of going this year but I'm not sure."
"Oh, um, the Spring Fete..." Everything seemed to have gone out of Roman's brain. Why was it so easy for this boy to make him feel like this? "It's really beautiful." He said, pulling on the hood of Logan's coat. Logan's coat. That's when it hit him, he was wearing Logan's coat! Roman cleared his voice, his blush darkening.
"It's really lively, too." Roman said, praying his voice was even. "Usually it's sunny and a circus comes to town and it's really hot in the circus tent but it's so worth it. There's clowns and acrobats and magicians and sword-swallowers and everything and that's not even including the stalls. There's coconut shies and-"
Logan tuned out on Roman's words, just watching the boy walking beside him. He got so excited when he talked about things he knew and a bright glint came into those beautiful green eyes of his. Some of the colour had come back into his cheeks too, which was what had been worrying Logan.
"And then there's all the rides! There's this thing called a roller-coaster which Rem insists is amazing but he's yet to convince me or his crush to go on it yet. And there's the flying swings, which look really scary but really aren't, and then you've got your-" He stopped short. "Oh." He said quietly. "Um, here's your house."
Logan looked around. He'd been so focused on the baker's boy that he hadn't noticed where they were walking.
"Oh, um, yeah." He looked up at the sky as a great rumble passed through the clouds. "I'd better go. Get home safe, okay?" Roman nodded and he couldn't look Logan in the eyes.
"Uh, yeah. Bye."
The fact that it's only chapter 7 and I already want to make them kiss, I-
Bye,
Blaize
