Chapter 5
"You don't need to whistle, I'm here." Logan said, making Roman jump.
"How'd you-?" Logan shrugged.
"I've got nothing better to do apart from memorise things." He shrugged again. "So, am I gonna pay full-price or do I get another odd discount?"
Roman laughed. "Gimme a second, I'll think of something." He said. Logan shook his head, smiling like he was trying to hide it, and pressed a shilling and seven pence into Roman's hand. "Hey, I hadn't thought of a silly discount yet!" Roman protested.
Logan laughed. "It's fine, honestly. My parents make enough money as it is."
"But this means I have to go now." Roman said, trying not to whine. He'd hoped for a little more time talking to Logan.
"You got another delivery further up the way?" Logan asked.
"Well, no, but-"
"Then whoever said you had to leave?" Logan asked. "Unless you really need to rush away for whatever reason, I don't see the harm in talking a little."
"You actually want to talk to me?" Roman asked, half-laughing. "Damn, that's new."
Logan stepped up onto the bottom rung of the fence and leaned his head on his arms. "What's living in the village like?" He asked. Roman blinked at the question.
"Um, it's... different. Different from out here." Logan tilted his head. This wasn't enough information for him. "Um, it's actually quite loud. You know, you've got your hagglers, your rag-and-bone men, the kids, the carts, the animals. It's all rather a lot at times."
Logan looked down, processing everything Roman had said. It gave Roman a moment to gaze at him, really try and memorize everything about him, without it being obvious. "It sound stressful." Logan said eventually, catching Roman off guard.
"Oh, um... I guess. It's not honestly that bad, it's quite fun at times."
"Oh?" Logan asked, tilting his head in interest. Roman felt a blush creep up his face. Here was an absolutely adorable boy who was interested in what he had to say and was actually talking to him. And did he mention Logan was absolutely adorable?
"There are these specific moments where it just looks or feels like something out of a fairy-tale." Roman said. "Like at sunset. All the houses are in silhouette and the colours just sort of... pop. It's really quite wonderful."
Logan looked at Roman for a few seconds longer, his eyes wide and curious, before looking down. "Sounds fun." He said quietly. "I've only really been to Stonegate for trips and things."
"You ever been to the Spring Fete?" Roman asked. Logan shook his head and Roman's mouth dropped open. "You haven't been to the Spring Fete?"
"No."
"But how?"
Logan shrugged. "Simple. I never really saw a reason to go." If possible, Roman's mouth would've fallen open even more.
"Never saw a reason?!" He repeated incredulously. "You never saw a reason to go to the best event in the whole year?!"
Logan shrugged. "I'd much rather be alone with nature, really."
"But there's cotton candy!" Roman protested. "And games! And dancing and magic and ferris wheels and carousels and cotton candy! How can you miss out on all that?"
Logan shrugged and jumped down from the gate. "Who knows, maybe I'll go this year." He grinned at Roman and Roman could've sworn he would've melted there and then. "Bye."
Logan being confident and slightly flirty is something I never realised I needed this much.
Bye,
Blaize
