Chapter 15
Logan checked his watch and then looked up at the sun, shielding his eyes. He could get to the fountain in time, right? Yeah, he could.
He'd intended to go through the woods and back to his house but then he'd remembered how much that'd worried his parents when he'd done that before. So, Logan turned on his heel and headed back into town, past the hall.
As far as Logan could tell, the town hall wasn't an actual town hall where the people who essentially owned Stonegate sat and had meetings. It was more of a theatre, used for meetings, speeches and the like. But it was always open to the public.
There was someone in there now, as Logan walked past. Whoever they were was singing and was very good. Logan paused. He knew he probably shouldn't but he peaked through the window to see who was singing.
"My heart is pierced by Cupid." It was Roman. He was sat on one of the tables with his eyes closed, a fond smile on his face. "I disdain all glittering gold. There is nothing that can console me but my jolly sailor bold."
Logan hadn't expected Roman to open his eyes and didn't have time to duck out of the way when Roman did. Roman let out a small shriek and lept off the table. Realising that it was only Logan, he coughed awkwardly and smoothed down his waistcoat.
"Oh. Logan, hi." Roman ran a hand through his hair and didn't look at the healer's son, thinking he'd left his good graces. "I, um, I thought you'd be back at your house by now."
Logan tried the door and, finding it open, stepped into the town hall. He wasn't about to have a conversation through a window.
"I was just going there now. But I heard your singing and you're really good. Like, really good." Logan was usually so good with words, what happened? "And I guess I just wanted to see you again." He scratched the back of his head and smiled at Roman shyly. Roman ducked his head briefly before looking back up.
"Thanks. Um, I'm really sorry about earlier today. The whole kissing your hand thing." Roman said, the light blush on his cheeks going from pink to red with embarrassment. "I just wasn't thinking and-"
"It's fine." Logan said quickly. God, this was such an awkward conversation. "Look, um, about the Spring Fete... Are there like... any rules or anything?"
"Rules?" Roman repeated. "What, no. It's a fair. The only rules are don't die and don't kill anyone. Though, those are usually only for my brother." He laughed a little to himself. "You've met him, haven't you? Remus?"
Logan nodded slowly. "Yeah, I've met him." He paused. "I'm not sure whether to say 'unfortunately' or just leave it at that."
Roman laughed into his hands. The sound made Logan blush and look down quickly because he'd gotten Roman to laugh. Roman!
"Yeah, that's usually the whole thing with Remus." Roman said. "But he's sweet, when he wants to be. Anyway," he smoothed his red waistcoat down again, "it's late. Maybe you should get home?"
Logan opened his mouth to protest before shrugging. "Yeah. I guess you're right."
The fact that I gave myself second-hand embarrassment from this chapter-
I'm so fucking sorry, this chapter's a trainwreck.
Bye,
Blaize
