Chapter 14
"Logan!" Willow called. "Logan, we're going into town!"
There was no reply. "Logan?" Willow called again.
"Do I have to come?" Logan yelled back.
"You'll be able to get new pens." Willow yelled back. Nothing. And then, a flurry of footsteps and Logan came bolting into the house.
"Deal." He said quickly. "I want my pens."
Willow smiled at her son before turning around to yell up the stairs. "Violet! Let's go!"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because Jamie's coming over!" Violet yelled down.
"Yeah, at 4!" Willow yelled back. "We'll be back before then. Besides, you can get some more books."
There wasn't a reply and then Violet poked their head around the stairs. "Books?"
Logan looked around the village square a little apprehevsively. He wasn't the biggest fan of chaos and the middle of town - with all its stalls and hagglers and markets - was the best place for chaos to ensue. Logan hunched his shoulders and looked around again.
"I'm going to the bookshop!" Violet called in delight and before any of her family could say anything, she ran off.
"Well..." Tarra trailed off. Willow put an arm around her.
"They'll come back." She said. "She always does."
Tarra nodded. "I know. I just worry that, one day, I might never see them again."
"Violet knows how to take care of themself." Logan said. "She's not a kid, mam, she'll kill anyone who tries to touch her. And since Violet's gone off on her own, can I? Please?"
Tarra blew a breath up through her fringe. "Fine. We'll meet back at the fountain, okay?"
Logan nodded before running off. He dodged in and out of people milling about and ran down a little, it could hardly be called a street it was so small and shambled, alley that Logan knew led to his shop.
"Oh, hey sweetheart." Roman looked up and grinned as he said this. Logan jumped and looked up. "Didn't expect you in town til the Spring Fete."
Logan shrugged. "I, um, I needed knew fountain pens for my notes. Why is there a stage here?" He asked. Roman sat down on the edge of said stage, wiping his hands on his shirt.
"It's for the talent show for the Spring Fete. It's always good fun to watch and no hassle to build so I thought I'd chip in." He grinned again. It was an almost roguish grin and something about it made Logan blush.
"Are you sure it's safe to do that after you've recently been ill?" Logan asked. "I mean, you don't want to overexert yourself or anything, do you?"
Roman shrugged and didn't answer. "What're your notes about?" He asked instead.
Logan shrugged. "Just about flowers and stuff..." He trailed off, feeling now that his notes were kind of childish. Roman seemed to sense this and tilted his head in interest.
"What about flowers?" He said, jumping off the stage and walking over to Logan. "If you've got the time to spare to talk, of course."
"Oh, um, sure." Logan straightened his glasses, grinning sheepishly. "Um, well, it's really like a little book about flowers. Like, a little sketch of them and then their meanings. Like, um, like lavender. Lavender means purity, silence, grace, elegance and calm among other things. I just think, you know," Logan scratched the back of his head, "if these meanings help me, maybe they can help other things too."
Roman nodded, a small smile on his face. "That's really cool, sweetheart. I'd love to stay but I've gotta get back home." Then, without thinking about it too much (or at all), he took Logan's hand and gave it a little kiss before running off. He was blushing like anything when he left.
These chapters have dragged on forever! Also, does anyone know if reactiontolife is okay? I'm just kinda worried about them, they haven't been online for a while. It's probably nothing but... yeah, kinda worried.
Bye,
Blaize
