Chapter 13

Logan inched across the branch, desperately trying to keep his balance. He'd noticed a little blossom wasn't growing and opening properly and had made it his personal mission to help.

"Don't look down, don't look down, don't look down." He muttered to himself, keeping his eyes trained on the blossom he was trying to help. After what seemed like an age, he made it to the blossom and sat up properly, one leg on either side of the branch to keep his balance.

"Okay, little one," he muttered to the cherry blossom, "let's see what the problem is." Logan pushed his glasses up his nose and cocked his head to the side. "You're going to have to speak louder than that." He said quietly. Seeing that was pointless, he bent his head closer to the flower. "Okay, what's up?"

Logan listened intently to what the flower had to say before looking up to the canopy above him. He looked back at the small blossom and pointed up. "Not enough sunlight?" He asked. The flower confirmed this in a soft, shy voice and Logan nodded. "Well, that's nothing we can't fix."

Without even thinking about regretting it, though he'd regret doing this later, Logan carefully stood up on the branch. He grasped the branch with both hands and kept his knees tucked into his chest. Very slowly, he started to stand up taller, wobbling precariously. He grabbed the branch above him to keep his balance.

"Okay, we're here." He said, more for his benefit than anything else's. "Now, to get the sunlight."

Logan started pushing at the leaves above him without an aim or plan. It was really just hope for the best outcome. Eventually, he managed to get some sunlight shining on the little blossom.

"That good?" He asked.

"Logan?!" Logan looked down sharply, which caused him to wobble and fall. He wasn't too far off the ground but it still hurt. He just sat where he'd fallen and looked at Roman.

"Really gentlemanly of you to just stand there." He said, picking himself up and rubbing his tail-bone.

"Are you okay?" Roman asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Logan said, running a hand through his hair and straightening his glasses. "Anyway, what about you? I see you're out of the house again."

"Uh, yeah." Roman scratched the back of his head and smiled at Logan. "Thanks for the medicine, by the way. It really helped."

Logan shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Well, it's what anyone would do." He said, smiling a little at Roman. Roman clicked his fingers like he'd remember something.

"Oh, um, your coat!" He fumbled with the knot - Logan realised with a pink face that he'd tied it around his waist - and handed it to Logan. "Here. Sorry I didn't return it to you sooner. I wasn't allowed to leave the house."

"Uh..." The extensive dictionary of words in Logan's head seemed to have run blank. Every single word he knew was gone. "Thanks."

"It's fine. I, uh, I washed it too, just cause I think the hem got a bit muddy and, you know, you did something nice for me so I thought I'd try do something nice for you too," Roman rambled, "so, um, yeah. Um..." He trailed off. "Yeah."

"God, you're so stupid, Roman." He thought. "Just ask him out or something!"

"Do you know when the Spring Fete is?" Logan asked. Roman blinked, trying to process what he'd just been asked, which was very difficult with Logan near him. I mean, Logan! Was near to him!

"S-Spring Fete?" He asked. "Oh, the Spring Fete, right! Um, end of May." He said, smiling and trying to get some Roman Charm back. Logan nodded. "Why?

Logan smiled at Roman and Roman could've sworn he felt his heart stop. "I was thinking of going, that's all."

No, I don't know what this is so don't ask.
Bye,
Blaize
