"Hello," Kaneki said awkwardly while bowing respectivly,"my name is Ken Kaneki."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Avengers were slightly wary of the ivory haired boy because they new next to nothing about him. Fury had briefed them earlier and told them that Kaneki was different in that he had abnormal powers that they still didnt know much about. Though the Avengers still didn't know how different it was from their own. While everyone standing, unsure on what to do next, Fury spoke up,"I hate to interrupt your socializing, but Kaneki needs to take his medical." At that, Kaneki visibly cringed. Banner stood and spoke up, leading Kaneki and Fury to the Helicarriers hospital room,"Guess that's my call guys."
"It'll just be me and Fury for the medical part of the examination, but for your physical we're going to need the others to test your abilities." Bruce stated setting up the medical equipment that he would need. The hospital room was spacious and plain white. There was a bed in the middle of the room for patients and cabinets to hold the medical supplies. Kaneki sat down nervously while Bruce asked him questions.
"Ok, first off, full name and age."
"Ken Kaneki, 19"
"Date of birth?"
"December 20"
"I'm going to test your reflexes, ok?"
"Ok.."
Kaneki noticed that his legs moved with considerably more force than the last time he actually went to a doctor. An aftereffect of acquiring the body of a ghoul no doubt.
After a few more tests, Bruce asked about his mental health. Kaneki widened his eyes and clenched the bed frame, slowly bending it.
"Well.." he started,"I know for sure that I have severe PTSD.. and some form of dissociative personality disorder, and.." Kaneki took another deep breath,"I have insomnia because of terrible nightmares ." He then tried to go into detail and describe some of his nightmares and other effects of his disorders.
"Well," Bruce started,"your nightmares are probably an after effect of your PTSD. Though there's not much I can do to help your condition, I can prescribe you some sleeping pills." Kaneki looked up at him slightly smiling with his eyes closed. "It's ok, there's not much you really can do. I'm pretty messed up."
Bruce laid his hand on the young man's shoulder to try and cheer him up, but it was in vain.
"You mentioned having DID, what are your symptoms?" Beruce asked him.
Kaneki looked back down at his feet and explained,"I experience most of the sure signs of DID except I'm mostly aware of what's happening, like if I were to watch a movie in the main character's point of view."
"Hmm, that is odd.. How many different personalities do you have?" the doctor inquired.
"Three including me that I know of."
"Can you tell me about them?" He asked while taking out his clipboard. Kaneki let out a breath and started to describe his personalities.
"Well, they call my origional personality King. There is Joker, and the Mad Knight, also known as M-Mukade." Kaneki stated shakily,"After a traumatic event, my D.I.D developed, creating my other personalities. Joker comes out usually when I've had a particularly bad panic attack or when I'm mentally impaired. He is usually not violent to people and likes to tease and play 'games'. But he does have his violent streaks when confronted. Joker's surprisingly protective, despite his childlike personality." Kaneki took another deep breath before continuing.
"A-And there's Mukade. Mukade could be best described as the personification of my kakuja. He is very much insane." Bruce looked shocked before he let Kaneki continue."Mukade likes to think of himself as a loyal knight to me, his King.. Mukade is extremely bloodthirsty and violent.. Lets just say, If you see him.. Run."
On that happy note, Kaneki and Banner met up with the other Avengers in one of the training rooms. The room was large and circular with a weight room, track, and some punching bags.
"First, we're going to test the extent of your stamina, but I'll have to ask you to remove your shirt so I can put some health monitors on you." Kaneki didn't like the sound of that. He really didn't like the sound of that, but he knew that this was the first step of many in gaining their trust and he couldn't afford to be on their bad side.
"I'll warn you, this isn't going to be pretty." Kaneki lifted the long sleeved shirt up over his head showing his multitude of scars across his whole body. The most noticeable was the one across his side from his surgery that made him a ghoul.
The Avengers couldn't help but gasp at the sight, Tony and Clint turned pale at the sight. Kaneki smiled weakly,"Let's get on with this shall we?"
Barton attached the electrodes to Kaneki's chest to monitor his heartbeat and told him to run as long and hard as he could around the track. Kaneki nodded and began sprinting across the quarter mile track. As he was running, Kaneki could feel the rubber soles of his shoes starting to heat up, so before he could ruin them further, he jumped high in the air and slipped off his shoes. He pushed off the roof of the training room and sped to the ground and, without missing a beat, took long gazelle like strides around the path.
It was then that Kaneki ran as hard and fast as he could, testing the limits of his ghoul speed. He could feel the air around him flow through his hair and around his body, as if he were a bird floating through a gale of lashing air.
Kaneki went round and round and round the track, the other people in the room were watching, as if in a trance. He soon lost count on how many laps he made and his sense of time escaped him. Kaneki kept running until he could only breathe in short gasps, with his hands on his knees. While he was catching his breath, Banner came with a water bottle and told him the results.
"You have incredible stamina. Your highest speed was at almost 70 miles per hour for over two and a half hours without stopping.." Kaneki looked up,"Really? I didn't even know I could go that fast, I've never run full out like that before. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised though. Even average ghouls have four times the strength of normal humans."
Kaneki did more exercises like benching, squat rack, etc. Each highly exceeding nearly all of the physical capabilities of the other Avengers. He wasn't as strong as the hulk, but he was just as strong as Thor. After the testing, Kaneki went into his room to lay down and read before taking a shower and turning in for the night.
Kaneki's nightmares weren't as bad as they usually were, but they still woke him up impossibly early. At 3:08 Kaneki was up and about trying to find a decent coffee maker and coffee beans. Coffee helped calm his nerves, despite making him feel a little homesick.
While he started brewing his coffee, Kaneki felt a ravenous growl from his lower abdomen. He sighed and made a mental note to Fury that he's going to need a body soon. After Kaneki drank a few cups of coffee, the door to the living room opened revealing Steve, Captain America, sweating from working out. Kaneki looked over at a clock. 5:22.
"Nightmares?" Steve asked empathetically. Kaneki nodded in affirmation.
"How long have you been up?" Kaneki took a deep breath and turned his lone eye to look up at the taller blonde haired man. Steve waited patiently for Kaneki's answer, knowing he was a naturally quiet person and that this was a touchy subject for him. Kaneki locked his one showing eye to Steve and answered,"Long enough to drink over half a coffee pot by myself. And you?"
Steve moved and went to pour a cup of coffee and sat down by Kaneki at the bar. He sighed and answered,"Long enough to break seven punching bags and run a few miles." Kaneki hummed in understanding while he took a sip of his still warm cup of coffee.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while when Kaneki asked,"This might be too forward to ask, but have you ever had someone precious to you die because of you?" Steve was taken aback and looked down at the cup in his hands. Kaneki hastily tried to take back what he just asked.
"I'm sorry, that was too forward, I'm sorry if I made you remember things you'd rather not think about-"
"Yes." Steve interrupted Kaneki before he could go further in his apology.
"We were on an enemy train on a mission, when the side of one of the train cars blew open and my best friend was about to fly out off the side of the mountain. I grabbed his hand and did my best to hold onto him, but I couldn't hold on and he fell to his death, hundreds of feet below." He clenched his hands around the cup in his hands, almost breaking the fragile porcelain.
"But how do you live with the guilt of not being able to save your best friend?" Kaneki asked, voice cracking slightly.
Steve looked at him honestly before replying with a small smirk on his face,"Still trying to figure that one out myself."
He got up and went in the direction of his room. Kaneki sat in silence, thinking that he may never come to terms or be forgiven for all the horrors of his life. Kaneki still couldn't understand why he was brought here. What was the point?
A second chance.. I doubt that someone like me should be given another chance, but he would want me to keep going even if he's gone.., Kaneki mused, finishing his coffee in silence.
