IX | I will let you hear my story

Transference, a phenomenon in which the person in treatment redirects feelings for others onto the therapist. When the client develops personal feelings for the therapist.

Countertransference, which occurs when a therapist transfers emotions to a person in therapy. When the therapist develops personal feelings for their client.

6 months later

"You like her, right?", Taehyung asked the maknae as he watched him brush his hair for the 100th time.

"What makes you ever think that hyung?", the younger asked with a tint of embarrassment in his voice. "Well, there are multiple reasons for me to think that, first of all, she's the only person you've been talking about for months, you get ready for every session like you're going on a date, oh and also- ouch", Taehyung winced as he got hit in the face with a pillow.

"Yah! Jeon Jeongguk, where do you think you're going?" Taehyung called out as the owner of the pillow quickly slipped out of the house for his session with Lily.

Lily sat anxiously in front of her boss, fiddling with the rings on her fingers as he attended a call.

Soon Jackson put down his phone and set his eyes on his junior.

"So Lily, do you have any idea why I called you in here?", he asked with a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

"Considering your tone, I doubt it's anything good sunbae", Lily replied.

"Yes, you're right, when I first asked you to be Jungkook's therapist, I did it because I felt like you would understand him better, but I should've stopped the moment you fainted when you first met him. I asked you to be his therapist Lily, not go on dates with him every time you have a session. Do you know how many pictures of you two together have been sent to the board?"

"What do you mean dates?? Jungkook always felt uncomfortable in the hospital setting, so we went outside for our sessions, and he has gotten so much better, his self esteem is better, he started working again, isn't that all because of me?" Lily asked, her anxiousness now dissipating into anger.

"Lily, can you tell me with 100% honesty, that you treat him exactly like how you treat your other clients? Or do you treat him like a friend?", Jackson asked feeling incredibly sad for his friend.

Lily's anxiety returned, "he seemed like he needed a friend, rather than a therapist."

"Well that's not your job Lily, you should've helped him make friends, not be one. Do you know nothing of transference and countertransference? Lily, I'm so sorry to say this, but the board has decided to suspend your license for a year, I couldn't do anything. Jungkook and your other clients will be transferred to a different psychologist.", Jackson truly felt sorry for his friend as he watched her face fall.

Tears fell from Lily's eyes, as she sat there feeling helpless. Her job was her entire life, a year without it meant hell and would this mean she would never see Jungkook again?

Jackson walked next to Lily and put an arm around her shoulder. "Hey, I know this sucks, but take this as a vacation and do everything you've wanted to do, okay", Lily tried to nod as the feeling of helplessness flooded her body again. "And he has a session today right? Maybe you should take this time to explain things to him, he would want to hear it from you."

Lily quickly looked at her watch as she wiped her tears and rushed out of the room immediately.

Jungkook couldn't believe his ears, "what do you mean I can't see Dr.Han?", he raised his voice at the poor receptionist, "She is my therapist and she will continue to be!".

"Mr. Jeon, like I already said, Dr.Han has been removed as your therapist, it's the decision made by the-", the receptionist stopped herself as Lily walked upto Jungkook.

Lily looked at the receptionist with a sad smile on her face, "I'll talk to him Aera-yah", Jungkkok turned to Lily as relief flooded his face. "Dr.Han, what I'm hearing is not true right?"

"Do you want to get some ice-cream Jungkook?"

"How is that fair Lily? You saved me.", Jungkook looked like he was about to cry.

"Even still Jungkook, I crossed boundaries that shouldn't have been crossed. It really is my fault. But you have to promise me that you'll continue going to therapy."

Jungkook pouted as he suddenly said, "alright! On one condition though."

"Okayyy", Lily chuckled. "Promise me that we'll hang out every weekend, as proper friends this time, then I'll go to therapy", Jungkook said.

Lily pretended to think and laughed, "alright, sounds like a plan. But my time is expensive, you know?"

"Of course, I know that. You'll be paid in full with ice-cream and snacks." Jungkook laughed as the tightness in his chest faded into the butterflies he felt around Lily.

Lily smiled at Jungkook; everything would be okay again.
