Chapter 9 (945)

Over the next few weeks, the Clan had been making the cave more like home. Using their powers to carve the stone walls into more spacious dens to sleep in. They used the moss and feathers to make the den's more comfortable.

Currently, Rose Thorn and Lemon Frost were guarding the entrance to the cave. A patrol of hunters entered the camp carrying a deer and a few rabbits. At the moment Shaded Sky was with his mentor Ivy Echo in the forest "Now if you want to fly, you have to concentrate on the power of your wings. Feel the air holding you up and make sure you keep your wings steady or you'll fall." She explained, her voice soft and quiet.

Shaded Sky nodded and flapped his black wings, he jumped up but fell back down. He huffed in frustration "I can't do it!" he sat down in the grass "Well I don't expect you to get it today, you just have to practice." Ivy Echo sat down as well "practice makes perfect, I know." Shaded Sky mumbled "Nothing is perfect, and if thats the case then you can never be perfect at anything. You can only get better at it then you were before." Ivy Echo advised, swishing her tail against the grass.

"How about we do something else." Ivy Echo suggested, thinking for a moment "since your training to be a Sigma, you need to have the knowledge and skills of all ranks. We can start with whatever you want, I advise hunting or herbs as fighting requires your weapon and powers." She explained, going quiet again. Shaded Sky thought over what she said for a few moments "I guess hunting then." He shrugged.

The two walked farther into the forest close to the waterfall. "We hunt all kinds of prey, from small rabbits to deer and the birds above. Teamwork and communication is important when hunting larger prey like deer and elk. Being quick and agile when hunting in the sky, being stealthy and observant when your hunting small prey on the ground, sometimes even using your powers can help with hunting." She informed, Ivy Echo seemed a lot more upbeat and talkative when she knew what she was talking about. Shaded Sky listened to what she said, his ears dropped slightly when he heard that powers were useful for hunting as well. He hoped that he would discover his powers soon so he wouldn't let anyone down.

For the rest of the day Ivy Echo taught him how to track his prey by sent and learning the hunters crouch. He was successful in catching a mouse, not the best prey but it was a good start and that was enough for Shaded Sky. The sun started to set as the two returned to camp, Ivy Echo nodded a greeting to the two guards Rose Thorn and Lemon Frost before entering camp.

Shaded Sky carried his mouse and put it onto the fresh kill pile next to his mentor's two rabbits that she caught. Over the last few weeks Shaded Sky had been helping with collecting stuff for the dens, he had also been practicing to fly and summon his weapon but so far he had been unsuccessful with that so being able to catch something on his first day of hunting had definitely helped lift his spirits.

"Hey Shaded Sky!" Jay Talon yelled while running over to him. Shaded Sky chuckled "what's up?" He asked "I was able to summon my weapon today!" Jay Talon exclaimed happily, eyes bright with excitement. "Really? What is it?" Shaded Sky asked, curiously. "Dawn Fire said it was called a Khopesh she also said it was a great weapon to hook around defenses and trip foes!" He jumped around excitedly his wings flapping slightly.

"Hey! Your gonna blow dirt into all the prey if you keep that up!" Mist Fall teased her brother as she came over, shoving him slightly with her shoulder while laughing. "I summoned my weapon today!" Jay Talon repeated, obviously still excited about it. "I know, I could hear you across the camp." Mist Fall pointed out with a chuckle.

"I was able to fly today, but I still need practice." Mist Fall continued, stretching her wings out before folding them back in again. "I was able to catch that mouse today." Shaded Sky pointed with his tail. Jay Talon looked over to where he was pointing "that's so small!" Mist Fall shoved him with her paw "like you could do better." She teased.

"A mouse? Really? That's the best you could do?" Frost Thorn rolled his eyes. The three looked at him as he padded forward "It's not like you could catch anything" Shaded Sky replied, lashing his tail. Frost Thorn looked at him, mismatched eyes starred into blue "Well I'm not a hunter, I'm a fighter you pipsqueak. But I bet I could catch something without training." Frost Thorn replied.

Shaded Sky's eyes turned red with anger "oh yeah? I challenge you then! Whoever catches the best prey tomorrow wins!" He challenged, a hard glare on his face as he watched Frost Thorn. Frost Thorn snorted "fine, but the winner gets to humiliate the loser in front of the camp if they choose too." He smirked "fine then!" Shaded Sky replied.

"Challenge accepted then, pipsqueak." Frost Thorn walked away from them. After Shaded Sky calmed down and his eyes returned to there normal blue color Mist Fall spoke up "what did you just do!?"

"He challenged Frost Thorn... duh. Way to go though!" Jay Talon smiled. Mist Fall rolled her eyes "oh boy. This won't end well."
