"When you get to the border what will you do Spottedpaw" Darkmist asked. "I will renew the sent mark and then check if Shadowclan has been trespassing" Spottedpaw replied. As he walked through the forest he thought about how happy he had been when Hawkstar announced that Darkmist would be her mentor even though he was her father. 

 When they reached the Shadowclan border he saw the patrol he and his father were meeting up with. "Cloudclaw Shadowsong" Darkmist called, "there you are" Shadowsong called back, get over here. the border with Shadowclan stretched between the lake to the dead log that marked the boundary of clan territory and the Towleg place.   As they walked towards Shadowsong Spottedpaw saw that his mother was with them, "Silverwind" He called "Spottedpaw how are doing on your assessment" Silverwind replied. "I haven't started" Spottedpaw mewed.  Just as he walked forward to mark the border he smelled something on the wind. "Shadowclan!" he yelled, "where"  Darkmist ran forward fur bristling "In the forest" Spottedpaw replied hoping it was just a patrol but he could tell it was trouble.

 A group of 6 cats pushed through the trees on the Shadowclan side of the border Led by a yellow she-cat that Spottedpaw did not recognize. "Sapclaw" Darkmist growled "what are you doing here, we settled this moons ago when Branchclaw died to his own attack" "Well consider this his ravage for his death" Sapclaw replied smoothly  Me Starfur, Pinesap, Timberbranch, Toadstep and Drakeflight think you need to die", "You are a threat to Shadowclan" her voice rose So you must die, Attack!

 Sapclaw jumped at Darkmist and they began to fight as battle broke out in the clearing Spottedpaw did not know what to do, fighting cats everywhere than he her a voice yell "Spottedpaw go get help" then he resized that the voice was Silverwind's. Then he heard her yowl and he ran to her calling "I will help you". As he reached Silverwind he saw her fighting a black and white she-cat that he assumed was Starfur. Spottedpaw leaped at Starfur and knocked her off his mother and begin ti fight her. Starfur was stronger than he had thought Mouse dung! Spottedpaw thought how could he fight her alone. At that moment Silverwind jumped in to help him "why did you not go back to camp and get help like I said to" she hissed at him "I could not live with my self if I left and you or father died" he said back. He is mothers voice got firmer  " I could not live with My self if you or your brothers or your sister died fighting your fathers battles" she snarled at him. 

Then the clearing got quiet as the fighting stopped "Timberbranch, Starfur, Toadstep, Drakeflight, Pinesap, time to go, we are done here" Sapclaw said her voice was smooth. "Where do you think you are going" Shadowsong hissed at her "Look around" she mewed back. As Spottedpaw looked around he saw that the once beautiful clearing was now wrecked and bloody the grass was torn and the trees had claw marks but when his eyes landed on a ginger and gray shape he gasped, it was Darkmist. "No" he gasped he ran over to his fathers body and shook it "Father, Father, Father, Father wake up" he cried "come on we'll get you back to camp Lilypond will help you". then he felt a tail brush his shoulder and a voice said come on. When he looked up he saw Silverwind her eyes full of grief for her lost mate.

 As they walked through the forest it seemed quieter then before Darkmist died, when they got to camp, a beautiful clearing with a river running through it the dens were made of bracken shaped it to a den there was also some caves that were the leaders den and the medicine cat cave in the center of camp was the fresh kill pile and next to the medicine cat den was the moss pile where cats could get moss to make nests. As they walked in Silverwind told Spottedpaw "Go tell your sister and brothers what happened then rest". As he walked towards the apprentice's den and he wondered "what will Goldenpaw think she was so excited to see her fathers face when she became a warrior "  when he got to the den Hollypaw was sitting out side with Goldenpaw sharing a squirrel " what is it Spottedpaw" Goldenpaw asked when he walked over "is something wrong" yes something is wrong" Spottedpaw wailed "Darkmist is  dead"!
