Alice's Hunger

Hello, this is Alice Snyde. I was just a normal teenage girl who faced social anxiety and swooned at the very sight of cute boys. Nothing odd, an invisible person to the world who would die someday probably due to old age, since never anything exciting happened in life, until that one stormy night.

That night my parents were away, attending a friend's birthday celebration, while my elder brother James, who was eighteen, had gone out into the nearby woods with his adventurous friends, even after my repeated request to them for not going since the weather forecast mentioned it's going to rain heavily. But it sounded thrilling to those morons, a bunch of idiots!

It was around ten when I lost my cool. I entered my washroom and gargled several times before changing my outfit. Seating myself at the couch, I turned on television for any interesting show to appear. Just as I felt settled in the cozy environment, police sirens reached my ear from a distance. Chills ran down my spine as I felt terrified for what was about to happen.

The sirens got nearer and nearer, until the cars stood right in front of the house. I didn't move, I couldn't. the bell rang and I rose into action. Opening the door, I heard what I'd expected.

"Hello miss, I'm inspector Johnny Style. Can I meet your parents?"

"My parents aren't home," I'd replied.

The inspector looked concerned as he spoke further. "We've found four dead bodies from the woods nearby. One of them had an ID with your place's address. His name was James Snyde."

My heart leapt to my throat, I couldn't speak a word more. I almost fell to the floor, if it were not for the inspector to hold me up.

"Miss, do you know him?"
I nodded with bloodshot eyes. With immense effort, I finally spoke, "He was my brother."

Within an hour, my entire family was grieving. My parents had been informed about the tragedy and so had been the parents of the other victims. Their death, well, was not accidental. Deep fang marks were visible at the back of my brother's neck while his friends had claw marks all over their bodies, as if an animal had attacked. None could make out the cause of such deaths, more mysterious was that other than the fang mark, there was no other wound on my brother's body, yet he was drained of blood.

Our families mourned at their sons' funerals as they were conducted together. A dread had spread among the residents of the town for everyone speculated for a beast lurking in the woods.

A month had passed since the incident. No such occurrence occurred again, so the townspeople felt relieved for the threat to have gone. Little did they know that the danger was back again.

It was a full moon night, the same night when my brother and his friends had been slaughtered a month ago, except that due to rain, the glory of the moon had not been invisible. Today though, that was not the case.

My parents were fast asleep, even though it was ten in the night. The memory of my brother had made them get drunk and faint away in the living room. Ceasing the opportunity, I opened the front door and exited my home.

The moon was visible in all its glory. With every step I took, excitement, anger and guilt choked me. But what could I do? Did I have another option? I'd tried finding one, starved myself for two months, when it had come out all at once, involuntarily, making me the culprit.

As I entered the dark woods, I searched with my keen hungry eyes for any signs of movement. An animal would not be the best choice, but it was always better than to hurt a human. But things don't necessarily go according to what we desire, do they?

As I searched for a prey, I heard the snap of a twig a few paces behind me. Hunger was maddening me as I turned baring out my fangs in front of whoever that had voluntarily stepped ahead to be my prey.

It was my mom. Scared and terrified at the sight of her daughter as a monster she would've never imagined. She sweated bitterly, shivering with fear. Her breath quickened as I felt her blood rush violently through her veins. Ah! The feeling of her heart pumping rapidly, the odor of her sweat and her quickly rising adrenaline ! How hangry it made me.

"A-Alice," my mom said in a trembling tone, "wha-what are you doing here? A-and what have you become?"

But I wasn't going to answer her petty questions. Do they concern when you're hangry? Of course not!
With no second thoughts, I grew out my nails and lunged at her ferociously. She screamed in terror as she turned to escape, but I was faster and more experienced. A leap and I was right on top of her, pressing her head down in to the mud while I bared my fangs into the back of her throat as she writhed. Piercing through her skin, I satisfied my temptation.

More such incidents occurred over the following months. The townspeople thought in their best interest to leave the place, but none could as all were hunted.

Now, I'm hungry, hungrier than I can ever be. I've set out into the world, for hunting down more preys and satisfying my hunger. Beware for you might be the next.
