Coater 18
Muffin and Woolf continued Woolfs house, having split off from Blaza a few minutes ago.
They were interrupted by an exited squeak as a hyper fourteen year old ran up to them.
"Socks is dead!" He announced happily.
"What?" Muffin questioned. "How do you know?"
"Laff went back after we left and found his body!" Nadwe chirped, a little too happy to be talking about corpses.
"Uh... do you have anything I can write with and on? Woolf can't hear, so..." Muffin decided to change the subject, knowing good and well Nadwe had false information. He just didn't have the heart to tell him.
"Oh, yeah." Nadwe ran off, coming back a minute or two later with a book and pen, already scribbling something in it and shoving it in Woolfs face.
Woolf backed up a bit, but took the book and read over it, blinking in confusion. He and Muffin shared a glance, both knowing that Laff had lied. But why? And if he did go back, why did he leave Blaza to bleed out?
"Hey, N-" Muffin started, trailing off as he realized Nadwe had left. He sighed. The Nadwe he knew would've stayed and asked where he'd been, why he'd been gone so long, but instead he just... left.
Muffin gestured for Woolf to hand him the book, and the furry obliged, handing him both the book and pen with a nod.
Muffin scribbled out 'so we both know Laff is lying, right?' And passed the book back to Woolf, who huffed as he read it over.
"No kidding. But why?" Woolf gave the book back.
'Well, he'd have seen Blaza if he'd actually gone back, so either he didn't go back, or he was the one who stabbed Blaza.'
He handed the book back.
"That's... actually a good point. We should ask Blaza, maybe he knows more?" Woolf looked off in the direction Blaza had gone.
Muffin tapped Woolfs shoulder and pointed at the book.
"Oh yeah, sorry." Woolf handed the book back, embarrassed he'd forgotten he was still holding it.
Muffin scribbled out 'I'm gonna go talk to Nadwe. You can go ahead and ask Blaza about it if you want.', handed the book back, and jogged off toward Nadwes house where he assumed his friend had gone.
( Time skip bc ✨ lazy ✨ )
Muffin jogged up to Nadwe, who was staring out the window blankly.
"Hey Nad! So uh... how've you been?" Muffin asked awkwardly. It'd been awhile since he and Nadwe had actually talked.
"Pretty good. Now that Socks is dead, all we have to do is figure out who broke him out and this'll all be over!" He said, turning around and smiling at Muffin.
"Oh..." His thoughts drifted back to when he'd given Wiktoria the pickaxe she'd used to break him out. If Nadwe knew...
"What do we do when we do when we find out who-?" Muffin shifted nervously.
"I dunno. Probably jail or death."
Muffin froze. Nadwes response was so casual, like he'd enforce that punishment with no hesitation. Did it matter if it was his best friend that had broke him out? Were... were they even friends at this point? The whole point of... was to secure his friendship with Nadwe, but instead it had caused them to drift apart. Why was everything going so wrong?
"I mean... death? Whoever it was probably doesn't deserve death... maybe they had a good reason?" Muffin rambled, hoping to ease the punishment in case anyone found out or the wrong person got blamed.
Nadwe stared him dead in the eyes.
"What do you know?" He asked.
"Wh- nothing!"
"I know you know something Muffin."
"Cmon... would I lie to you?"
"Yes."
That had stung. Nadwe didn't even trust him anymore... everything had been for nothing...
"Fine. I helped Socks break out. Is that what you wanted to hear?"
Nadwe stared at him in disbelief. He didn't want to be right! He couldn't turn him in... they were friends...
"G-get out." He stammered, looking away.
"Nad-"
"GET OUT!" He screamed.
Muffin backed away, turning and running out the door, not stopping until he was completely out of breath.
His and Nadwes friendship was over. Gone. There was no getting it back now. He sat where he was and sobbed. How could he go on after this? Nadwe was his only real friend, and now...
"Muffin?"
Muffin looked up to see Laff looming over him.
"What's going on?"
"Don't wanna talk about it." He mumbled.
"Ah, I see. Why don't yous come to my place for a bit?" Laff offered, holding out his hand. Muffin took it, letting Laff pull him up as they started toward his farm.
