One year ago:

Scarf: I'm sorry... I failed you, lord mask

Chaos: I told you not to underestimate the enemy

Belle: you can't blame him. we would've underestimated him as well

Angela: whaaaaaat?! who knew my useless brother was that strong? I guess you are weak scarfy

Black: WELL WE FINISHED DESTROYING THIS TOWN! WHAT'S NEXT?!

Mask: relax all of you, it seems you've all cleared out this place, which I'm impressed. Hand, gather the darklings and expand the territory

Hand: hohoho, as you wish my lord

Mask: eh?

The darklings looks up at a building as they see someone on the roof

Alex: I've been looking for you... mask...

Around this time, this takes place a few days after the attack in splatoon island, and in a small town away from inkopolis.

Mask: ah you must be Alex... the dog that follows the traitor

Alex: don't you dare disrespect him! You have no right to pull him up either

Belle: so you're the girl that tadayoshi was always with

Alex: yeah, nice to meet you

Hand: what brings you here miss?

Alex: I'm here for mask only! I went to see tadayoshi a few days ago and he was doing well, but I'm not satisfied about you still going after him!

Angela: lord mask, shall we finish her off?

Scarf goes to pull out his weapon but he felt his arm being grabbed

Chaos: let lord mask have his fun...

Mask: eh? You're here for me?

Alex: I know everything you have done to tadayoshi! I know why he is always so edgy and alone, all because of you... and I'm sure you're aware of that

Mask: yeah, I know. Say since you're here, why don't you join the darklings? I can grant you the dream that you always wanted, you wanted happiness if I remembered! You will be quite useful for something that I am creating, so-

Alex: is that some kind of joke? I would never in my life joi-

Suddenly, black ink was shot by, nearly hitting Alex, but she doesn't flinch at all

Alex: join you...

Mask turns at Angela, who was holding out her slattershot at her

Alex: you guys attacked first, so don't blame me for attacking you

She quickly pulls out a gatling gun and starts shooting at chaos, but she starts running to dodge her shots. Suddenly Alex notice Black beside her, lift a building which looked puffed up and throwing it at her. She quickly pulls out her ultra stamp weapon and hits the building, which exploded after making contact with her weapon

Mask: Angela! Black! Stay out of this! I don't want my men to get damaged by this inkling!

Black: I'm sorry, my lord...

Alex: take this!

Mask turns around as he and his darklings were blasted by the killer whal that Alex put down. The darklings were blown back from the blast, sending them through a building behind them as they all fell to the ground, but they get up again

Chaos: this woman is annoying....

Hand: hohoho, now that was a strong blast though, you can't deny that

They notice Alex jumping down from the building and slowly walking towards them

Mask: *tsk* now this is my fight, leave this to me!

Angela: ehhhh, I wanted to fight thoooo....

Chaos: just quiet down, you started this so let's go

Angela: then carry me

Chaos: no

The darkling commanders runs away form the destroy twin, leaving mask alone against Alex

Mask: I get why you are here, but he broke the rule in my group by killing my men! And I don't allow people to leave my group! He also happens to be close to someone I know back then that I swore to get revenge on!

Alex: so you wanted him dead in the first place when he joined?

Mask gave her a huge smile.

Mask: obviously, he was useful to me, but now even after he left us, I still no longer need him, but still need his head...

He stands up again and begins laughing at her

Mask: I have become stronger! And those years are behind me Alex! Now watch as I show you my ink power...

He raises his hand as she notice something black growing on his hand, suddenly more black raises around him, floating around

Mask: ehehehehe... I present to you... the power of ink manipulation

Somewhere around the town, the cephalopods in the town notice mask black ink

Inkling: hey! It's the black stuff again!

Inkling 2: we better get out of the town before we get caught into it!

The cephalopods run off as Alex watches mask reveal his ink power

Mask: throughout all of the ink powers I have created for my commanders, this is one of the strongest ones I ever created! Shall I show you how capable it is?

Alex gave a smirk at him

Alex: go ahead

Mask: well them

He spread both his arms out as Alex watches the ink on the ground spreads out and reaches to the end of the town. He then raises his hand up as the black ink on the ground raises up above, almost covering the sky in darkness

Mask: heh!

He slams his fist down onto the ground as the black ink that was raise above them plummets down the to ground destroying the town within in instant. The black ink then crawls back to mask, disappearing into him

Mask: you see what I am capable of Alex?

Soon make notice yellow bubble floating around him, as he notice Alex was creating them, which she smiled at him as they explode onto his face, but mask remain clean

Alex: interesting...

Mask: heh, since I can control ink, I can dodge or absorb ink attacks without move because my body is ink. The unfortunate part of this power is that this power drains my energy twice as fast, then a normal ink power usually does... but it's all worth it when I can do something else as well

He suddenly raised his hand at Alex, which she suddenly felt her body being pulled in

Alex: "what the hell?!"

Mask: I'm can pull in any cephalopods around me and when I come in contact with them...

Alex flew into mask grasp, but she goes to shoot him but nothing comes out, which shocks her as she figures out what else he can do

Mask: I'm sure you figured it out... Alex

Alex: no... don't tell me...

Mask takes a hard swing against Alex stomach, as she coughs out ink, sending her flying into the building rubble. Alex crawls herself out of the rubble and glares at mask

Mask: I'm also capable of draining a cephalopods ink! A normal inkling or octoling body is made out of ink, and since they all use ink as ammunition for their weapons and power ups, I will drain their ink they have inside them, and sometimes I drain everything in the ink sack, I can also make them a "colorless" or maybe die...

Alex stands back up on her feet as she her weapons were refilled with their ink

Mask: now, shall we

She jumps at mask as she goes for an attack on him

This story is interrupted by a chibi Alex and chibi tadayoshi sitting together, looking up at the stars

Another explosion goes off as the darkling commanders were watching

Belle: never thought she would still stand against lord mask

Hand: hoho, remember mask is always our superior and strongest of them all

Chaos: don't always think that... even if he is strong, we should never underestimate the enemy, after all... there will always be someone that will bring us down

Angela: ... your being weird again...

Back at the fight, mask was breathing exhausted while Alex was on her knees breathing heavily, and was bleeding

Mask: I don't want to kill you honestly since you can be useful in my group, I'll ask you again! Will you join the darklings!

Alex slowly gets back up and glares at him with a smile

Alex: if I betray someone who I always looked up to for so many years, how can I ever be happy?

Mask: *tsk* so be it... Die by power!

Soon black ink appears behind him as it grew to be as a large tsunami that is literally black ink. For Alex, raises her hand as she was summoning a booyah bomb which grew three times bigger than it usually is

Mask: HaHaHaHa! Light vs darkness! There can be only one winner!

Alex: I will make tadayoshi... happy again...

Both Alex and mask yell as they launched their attack at each other as the attack collided, while the darkling commanders and the town people watches and see the true winner. This battle between an Angel and the devil lead to the hometown arc.
