Introduction
Dear Readers,
If you are a devotee of Sri Ram - this book is for you! It is an offering of the 108 epithets of Lord Ram, in the form of chapters, with illustrations and texts from art and literature. At time of writing this, the attempt is add 9 chapters each day, until 108 is reached.
I added, where I feel appropriate, an associated text from Valmiki Ramayana, Ramcharitramanas by Tulsidas, Yoga Vaasisth, and so on.
Even for those who are not devotees, the Ramayana of Valmiki is an epic that has captured the imagination across the globe and given pause for thought ,on themes that are universal and also those that typify the ideals of a particular era.
The story of Prince Rama has been the subject of much evocative art and sculpture - which I have used to illustrate each chapter.
In putting together this book based on the devotional 'Ashtotharam' invocation, it has been a wonderful opportunity to re-search Valmiki's Ramayan, and to ponder on the intricacies of Sanskrit to convey nuances of meaning!
However, some of the online translation of particular epithets in the Ashtotharam do not convey the meaning and symbolism very well, and this will require more research. In the meantime, if learned readers wish to, please comment on the meanings.
Please do read and comment as to what you have enjoyed and what interested or inspired you!
Yes - this is a traditional approach - and not the same as the plethora of re-tellings or soap-opera 'spiritual' romances - hopefully there is still interest in the approach taken here.
Jai Sri Ram!
