Chapter 4: Connection
When I woke, I realized I was no longer lying on the cold ground of Windmill Valley, but in my plush bed. One wacky dream I had. Spirits, yeah right. But still, I was curious. Was I truly the controller for Wind, or did I just create an astonishing fiction story?
I decided to at least give it a try. I placed my hands upon the turquoise wall of my bedroom and whispered, "Wind."
Immediately the wind picked up outside and rattled my windowsill and I gave out a small laugh of delight. It was true, but what did it all mean? Was there a certain purpose for a Spirit, or was I just here to help contain Wind? Either way, was I the only Spirit? Do I need training, or to hone my skills? I stared up at my ceiling pondering my questions, until I realized why it was still dark outside.
I had school.
I reluctantly slid off my bed, and winced in pain as I glanced down on what I had stepped on. It was one of Lilia's toys; she was taking a liking to playing in my room, since I actually kept it clean. I kicked the toy into Lilia's room, oblivious to the fact that I would wake anyone up. I shuffled drowsily around the house as I got ready for school, and headed out the door to catch the bus. The rest of the day continued on lazily, till during third hour.
The whole building seemed to give a small shudder as the wind outside the window I sat by whistled on. I glanced outside and suppressed a gasp of surprise. In the distance, a spiraling tower of clouds was making its way towards the school. Its wind, I thought, so I'll be able to stop it... maybe.
I casually got up from my seat and left the room, grabbing the girls' bathroom pass on the way out. As soon as I was in the hallway, I dashed to the one bathroom that bordered the outside. Thankfully, no one else was there, and I sat down on my knees and began to try to soothe Wind.

"Alice, can you hear me?"
I looked up from my textbook to see who had called me. No one was looking my way, so I dismissed it as my imagination.
"Alice, I'm in your mind."
Yeah right, I thought.
"I heard that!"
Wait a second, I know that voice! Rain, is that you?
"Took 'ya long enough. Listen, I need you to look at the floor, there should be some glowing yellow-orange footsteps there. Follow 'em."
But won't others be able to see them?
"Can other people hear me?"
No.
"Same with the glowing, hard to miss footsteps. Now follow them."
I got up from my seat and left the room, grabbing a hall pass on the way out. The trail of footsteps was rather easy to follow, rarely rounding corners, and finally it ended up at the girls' bathroom.
Why was I lead here?
"Well go inside and find out!"
I walked in, and the first thing that I noticed was a whisper saying "Wind calm down, it's okay, just calm down. No need to rush” and I realized what it meant.
"You're...You're a Spirit, too!" I whispered loudly. The girl on her knees stopped whispering and stood up, taking her hands off the wall.
"Ophelia, Wind," she introduced herself and sticking a hand out for me to shake. I grabbed it and responded, "Alice, Rain."
"Alright, well, I have to stop Wind from destroying the school, so have a nice day."
I turned to leave, when Rain spoke to me again.
"Don't just leave! Help her!"
How?
"Put your hands on her shoulders and start speaking to Wind! Normally, if you just started commanding Wind, it wouldn't work, or something fatal could happen to you. But if you route your powers through her, then it will be like she's commanding Wind twice!" I inwardly nodded to Rain and put my hands on Ophelia's shoulders and whispered to Wind.
"Um...What are you doing?" Ophelia asked as I started whispering.
"Helping you," I replied and continued whispering. I was determined to stop Wind with her.
