Chapter Two: The Sending
"Are you guys ready?" Tabby asked the crew as they sat together eating breakfast. It had been a week since the announcement, and the next day was the day they were supposed to get sent into the unknown.
Each of them were able to bring a backpack, but no
iPhones or electronics. There obviously would be no way to charge or use them. However, most were planning on bringing disposable cameras, because those were allowed.
Kenna had to beg her mom to allow her to go. She hadn't told her where she was going, only that it might help with her knee. Her mom had reluctantly agreed, but only because she knew Sailor and Sailor had promised to stay right by Kenna's side the entire time they were gone. The whole concept had everyone weirded out, but everyone knew that if they wanted a chance at meeting some of their favorite Bible hero's, this was a good chance at it.
"Yes. Me and Moses are gonna kick it for two weeks!" Shawn smiled. Kenna and Sailor exchanged looks. Sailors was one of excitement, as he was a Christian and believed that he would get healed, Kenna was full of anticipation, nervous about the possible outcomes.
Everyone put a word in before Maddie turned to Kenna.
"Are you still going to see Jesus?"
"Yes."
"You still going too Sailor?"
"Yep, I am."
After spending the next 24 hours together as a group, they split the morning of to get ready.
"Are you ready to do this?" Sailor asked Kenna, sensing a lot of hesitation. She nodded, gripping onto a walking stick she had made herself in her time recovering from the crash. Her older brother had gotten out of it with a concussion and a broken collarbone. Kenna had not been so lucky, walking out of it with a concussion and a knee busted so bad even two surgeries hadn't been able to fix.
"You know, you won't be needed that once we come back." He told her. She shrugged.
"Hopefully."
Just then, her phone went off. Answering it, she jumped at the sudden voice of Phillip through the speaker.
"Kenna! Just wanted to say I loved ya before you left for a couple weeks."
"Love you too." Kenna said with a small smile. Guilt had eaten Phillip alive after the accident, only because he was trying to get them home that night before curfew only to get into a bad wreck.
"Stay safe, ok? Where are you going? Just make sure you can handle it with your leg." He admonished, concern evident in his voice.
"I've got it under control. Sailor is coming with me, I'll be ok."
"Ok, tell Sailor if you get hurt I'll hurt him." Phillip grumbled.
"Will do."
"Come on, it's our time slot. We've gotta go." Sailor mumbled from next to her.
"Gotta go Philly, bye."
She hung up.
"Let's do this."
Slowly making their way into the room, the lady looked up from the desk.
Taking in the tube like pod and the equipment desk next to it, Kenna hesitated at the door, causing Sailor to speak up for both of them.
"Sailor Adevk and Kenna Stall."
"One at a time, in the pod." She stated sounded, bored.
"Actually we're going together." Sailor stated.
"Alright. In the pod you go." The lady stated. Both climbed into the pod, sitting side by side, their backpacks and the walking stick piled in their laps.
"Where too?" She asked the two.
"We want to see Jesus Christ of Nazareth."
The lady hesitated for a minute before nodding, and typing something on her system.
"Alright. You are all set." She told them, before going to close the top of the pod.
"You won't be in anything when you get there, and when two weeks is up you will automatically be brought back. Have fun!" She rambled, with a forced smile. Sailor grabbed Kenna's hand, knowing she was nervous. As the lady hit the button, only one thing crossed both their minds. Was this going to work?
