Chapter Thirty Two - One Last Broken Promise
Here's the last chapter of book two of "The Ten Keepers." By the way, I made new covers for book one and book two.
Eilene's POV
Eilene looked at John who was looking back, the parasite an inch away from his forehead. His eyes were filled with fear and sadness. They both knew that the time has come. He wasn't going to stay as John much longer. The others must've realized too for John suddenly fell down on his knees, clutching his head in pain. Breathing hard, he pulled out his sword and gave it to Eilene.
"Do it," his voice filled with pain, "Do it now. Before I turn."
Eilene looked at the sword and hesitated.
"You need to do it now," John gasped, "I don't want to hurt anyone. Please before I-" John yelped in pain.
Eilene glanced at the others who looked horrified, looking at him as if he was already gone. Rusty let out a whine as he looked at John with sadness. She looked back at John who looked back with pleading eyes.
"Please, Eilene," John pleaded.
Eilene looked at the sword then slowly took it with shaking hands. Then she raised her sword and hesitated. She knew that in a matter of seconds, John was going to turn. Eilene closed her eyes and braced herself. Then she opened them, lowering the sword to her side. She knew what she had to do.
"No," Eilene said softly.
"What?" John asked.
"I said no," Eilene went on, her voice breaking, "I... I can't. I'm sorry John but...there's just one last promise...I have to break."
"No," John yelled, "Eilene no."
Then she threw the sword away and looked at John, sadness filling her gaze. Eilene closed her eyes as John began to turn, trying to block out his yells of pain. Finally, it stopped, the yelling stopped. She reluctantly opened her eyes and she felt as if she had been stabbed in the heart. The twisting black spiral was on his forehead, his eyes blank as he stared at her as if he barely knew her. Rusty gave a howl of despair as he rushed to his side.
"Rusty, no," George exclaimed, trying to grab for him but he had already reached John's side.
To Eilene's surprise, an evil smile appeared in John's face and he touched Rusty, a black parasite sliding for Rusty's forehead and digging inside. Rusty's eyes became blank just like John's but this wasn't what surprised her.
Only Zerif was able to get others into his control so how was John doing it as well?
Eilene's mind raced with thoughts. Does that mean John was able to get others into his control as well? Could John steal other's Spirit Animals just like Zerif? Is it because he's a Keeper?
She jolted out of her thoughts as John let out an evil chuckle, "That was the stupidest move i've ever seen. You Keepers are weaklings, caring so much for others. Where did that get you now?"
Eilene took a deep breath, knowing she will have to fight John.
"I know what i'm doing," Eilene muttered, taking out her staff.
"You know what?" John announced, "Since you can't kill me yourself. I'll just kill you."
"Only difference is," Eilene replied, "This time, i'm ready."
John chuckled, picking up his sword, "This would be fun."
Eilene took a deep breath, forcing herself to look at John. She started thinking fast as John slowly approached her with his sword. Then he viciously striked with his sword. She managed to block it in time but he kicked her back hard, making her land with a huge thump. John was already raising his sword and putting it down but Eilene rolled away, narrowly missing the blade and quickly got back up.
"Your fast," John nodded and stroke quickly, "but i'm faster."
Eilene rolled away and blocked the last strike, "Maybe."
Eilene hit with her staff and realized that it was the wrong move as John grabbed it and pulled her near. Eilene let go of the staff and rolled away with no weapon.
"This is such an easy win," John chuckled.
"Yes it is," Eilene agreed, "but you haven't won the last fight."
This made John flinch a bit but he quickly shook his head and slowly walked towards her.
"It's a shock that the oh great son of Lord Gaundor gave up," Eilene went on, and he kept walking more hesitantly.
"It's a shock that you broke your promise again," John replied, almost growling.
"I know I did," Eilene said firmly, "You should never have expected me to keep a promise, since i'm always the traitor. I guess there's someone new for that position now."
Rage shown in John's eyes and he striked again but Eilene managed to dodge his attack. Instead of running for his staff, she faced him.
"I never betrayed anyone unlike you," John almost growled.
"You betray us now by attacking," Eilene replied, "You betrayed all of Erdas."
John ran at Eilene and kept on striking while Eilene kept on blocking.
"Why won't you fight back?" John asked in frustration.
"Why won't you fight back, John?" Eilene repeated, stepping back to stop fighting, "Why won't you fight back the Wyrm?"
John didn't answer and taking her by surprise, he kicked her hard, sending her falling back hard. Then he stood above her, his sword raised. Eilene made no attempt to defend herself as she looked back at John, sadness filling her gaze.
"Actually," John stopped, "You know what's better? When you're infected as well and is under my control."
Just then, George had shoved John out the way and quickly got Eilene to her feet.
"Quick, we need to run," George told her while John was still on the ground.
Eilene looked back at John before reluctantly running after the others. Up ahead were ruins of a city as they kept on running. As she looked back one last time, their eyes met but the only difference is, his eyes were blank with hatred. She knew this wasn't John, for the John she knew was gone.
Her heart clenched with fear. She knew that John wasn't the only one that will be lost.
The prophecy and dream is yet to be unraveled. Will John ever come back? Will the Keepers reunite? Will they save Erdas or fail?
This is officially the end of book two of "The Ten Keepers."
