Chapter Six - Bonds Weaken

Zoron's POV

They didn't know if it was day or if it was night but they slept anyways because they were so exhausted. Zoron woke up and saw that Eilene wasn't back yet. John was already up who seemed to be in deep thought.

When John saw the Zoron woke up, he asked, "So what are we going to do?"

Then, Zoron remembered everything that had happened last night. Another fight with John and Eilene.

"I don't know," Zoron replied, "Do you want to get out of here?"

"If there's any way out of here," George muttered who just woke up.

"Of course there's a way out of here," Hope yawned, "There's always a way out."

"I see why they named you Hope," Zoron said with a smile.

"We need to decide if we're going to keep finding this talisman of a Great Beast we've never heard of or get out of here and find another way to save the Evertree from the Wyrm," John said.

Before anyone could reply, pain shot through Zoron's back and he yelped in pain. He could hear the others screaming in pain as well. He also heard a wolf whine, a lynx hiss, a falcon screech, and a horse neigh so loudly.

"What's happening?" Zoron managed to ask before more pain hit him.

"I don't know," Hope cried.

Zoron braced himself, expecting for more pain but nothing came. His vision finally cleared and he saw that the others were all on the floor, panting.

"W-What happened?" George stuttered.

"Guys, something's wrong," John said, "Something happened with my bond with Rusty. It feels so...weak."

Zoron quickly looked for Lazu and to his surprise, he couldn't sense him much anymore. Luckily, he spotted the falcon but he gasped. It looked like he was staring at a stranger, as if he had never known the falcon.

"Why does it feel so weak?" Hope asked, fear in her voice.

"The Spirit Animal bond," someone rasped and they turned to see Eilene, staggering towards them.

She must've felt it too because she looked weak and tired, fear in her eyes.

"The Evertree is getting sicker," Eilene explained, "And so does the bonds. Once the Evertree dies, our Spirit Animal bonds die as well. If we don't defeat the Wyrm now..."

She didn't have to finish the sentence to know what she was going to say. If they don't defeat the Wyrm, Zerif will rule the world and their will no longer be any Spirit Animals.

"But it's you're choice," she went on, quietly, "Just say the word and i'll lead you guys back. There's no reason for you guys to trust me when I betrayed you all."

No one spoke for a while. Zoron looked at John, waiting for his answer. He also noticed that Hope and George were looking at John as well, waiting for his answer. John's eyes widened in surprise when he realized they were waiting for his answer. At first, John didn't seem to know what he was going to say.

"No," John finally said, "You told us the bonds were weakening because of the Wyrm and it happened. If the only way to save the Evertree, the bonds of our Spirit Animals, and Erdas is by looking for this talisman from a Great Beast we've never heard of... then we'll do it. We'll come with you."

Eilene seemed surprise for she did not expect that answer, especially coming from John.

Then she nodded, "Very well then."

As Eilene lead them through the tunnels once more, he glanced at John who was deep in thought. Eilene's betrayal have shaken them badly but they needed to work together once more if they were to defeat the same enemy, the same threat, the Wyrm.

Zoey's POV

"I wonder how the others are doing," Zoey told the others.

They were sailing towards the Evertree just to check up on Lenori before going to Greenhaven.

"I'm sure they're doing fine," Irene reassured her, "They're probably having a fun time cave-diving."

"I'd cave dive in the deepest caves then ride a ship," Ivan muttered.

"Okay, now you're exaggerating," Riley said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm not, that's how much I hate riding ships," Ivan replied.

They finally reached the Evertree and they looked for Lenori. They found her along with a few other healers who were inspecting the rot which had grown bigger. Lenori's eyes widened as she spotted them.

"Keepers, what are you doing here?" Lenori asked, confused, "Aren't you supposed to be looking for the other half of the talisman and the Staff of Cycles."

"The thing is, we're still having a...hard time trusting Eilene," Riley explained, "And so we decided to go to Greenhaven and do some research of our own until we have enough proof that Eilene was saying the truth."

Lenori sighed, "I know her betrayal have...made us question who she really is but I believe she's telling the truth."

Before anyone could say anything, there was a moaning sound and Zoey looked up and saw that the Evertree was shaking. Pain shot through Zoey's spine and she fell on her knees from the excruciating pain. She could here the others crying in pain as well. She even heard animals make a sound that sounded as if they were on pain. The pain kept on hitting her, each hit getting stronger until it stopped.

"W-What just happened?" Zoey asked.

"S-Something's wrong with Navi," Ivan stammered, "It's like I can barely feel her."

"The Evertree," Lenori gasped, "When the Evertree moved, the bonds wavered."

"Eilene said the exact same thing," Irene said, "She has to be telling the truth."

"But that's not enough proof," Riley argued, "What if she just invented the whole, there's a sixteenth Great Beast thing? I think we still need to go to Greenhaven and do some research."

Lenori sighed, "Do what you have to do, I won't stop you."

"I agree with Riley," Jef said, "We still don't have enough proof."

Irene and Zoey exchanged a glance then they both nodded. Zoey was having a hard time believing Eilene but deep down, she so desperately wanted to believe her friend, that she was helping them again.

Still confused with Eilene? So there's not much sweetness but don't worry, it's coming soon. Please vote and leave a comment on what you guys think. Stay tuned for the next chapter!

I will be updating tomorrow because I need to sleep. Good night to this side of the world!
