Chapter Seven - Fall of Greenhaven
If you've read "Broken Grounds" then you probably know what happened here.
Hope's POV
Hope didn't know how much time has passed. She didn't know how long they had been walking because everywhere they seemed to go, it always looked the same. They started to get bored as minutes passed.
"We'll rest here," Lin decided and everyone slumped down, exhausted.
As they were beginning to eat, Zoron sat down next to her. Hope's heart was beating faster and she started feeling butterflies because of how close they were. She looked up to meet Zoron's gaze and they just stared at each other until Zoron started to lean closer.
"Woah, woah, woah," George broke through, "Don't do it in front of me when i'm about to eat."
John chuckled while Hope and Zoron blushed, scooting a bit farther away. Hope glanced at Lin who didn't look up. After they ate, they started walking again, going through tunnels, going back because of dead ends and just endlessly walking.
John's POV
John groaned, "Seriously, are you sure that compass isn't broken or something?"
"Don't blame the compass, blame the caves," Lin muttered, "I never went down here before so how am I supposed to know where to go?"
"Give me the compass," John said and she raised and eyebrow but handed him the compass.
Then he started leading the way through the cave.
"I swear, this compass is broken," John exclaimed.
"It's the caves not the compass," Lin replied.
"The caves were made naturally," John snapped, "It's the compass that's broken."
"The compass is leading us to the talisman," Lin retorted, "But the caves don't."
"Whatever, I still blame the compass," John said, "Because I can't blame the ca-"
Just then, John fell.
"John," George exclaimed.
Apparently, he had tripped on a rock, making him fall down, since the ground isn't exactly flat. Hope, Zoron, and George burst out laughing while Lin bit her lip, trying to hide her smile but her eyes shone with laughter.
"Still not blaming the caves, John?" Zoron teased.
"Ha ha ha," John said, sarcastically, "Very funny."
"Here," Lin said, extending her hand to help him up.
John took her hand without hesitation and just when he got back up, he didn't see Lin. He saw Eilene, the old Eilene, his friend that he trusted. They looked at each other for a while before Eilene shook her head and let go of his hand, much to John's dissapointment.
John handed her back the compass which she took and she started leading the way. He so desperately wanted to see Eilene again, his friend.
Irene's POV
"There it is," Zoey announced, "The huge stone fortress of Greenhaven."
"Finally," Ivan exclaimed, "I can't wait to get of this ship."
"Come on," Riley said, "The ship wasn't that bad."
"Yeah," Ivan replied, "It was terrible."
Riley just rolled her eyes. As the ship sailed closer, Irene spotted a figure walking into the gates of Greenhaven along with more people. The figure then summoned an elephant and the elephant broke open the gates to Greenhaven.
"Uh guys," Irene said, "Did you just see that."
"We saw it too," Jef said, "Whoever that was, they mean trouble."
Once they got off the ship, the team ran into Greenhaven and peeked in. Everyone was running and fighting and it was a total chaos. Just then, the man who summoned the elephant summon more animals. A polar bear, a boar, a snake, an eagle, and an elk. When the man turned, Irene gasped as she saw a black, twisting spiral on his head. Zerif.
Zerif who summoned, Dinesh the Elephant, Suka the Polar Bear, Gerathon the Serpent, Haliwir the eagle, and Tellun the Elk, leader of the Great Beasts.
The Greencloaks started running away inside the fortress, Zerif, his Great Beasts, and his followers, followed after them. The team didn't move. Zerif had already captured most of the Great Beasts and now he's in Greenhaven.
"W-We need to get out of here," Irene said.
"Good plan," Jef said and they all started running back to where the ship was.
They quickly climbed aboard as the Greencloaks who were in the ship looked at them confused.
"We need to get out of here," Zoey explained, "Zerif, some of the Great Beasts that he has captured, and his followers are inside Greenhaven right now. We need to get back to the Evertree right now."
They didn't have to be told twice as they started sailing away. Away from Greenhaven and back to the Evertree. There was no mistaking it, Greenhaven will fall and their only hope is to find the talisman in the Hundred Isles.
