Chapter Thirty Two - Flashbacks

Eilene's POV

Flashback

Eilene was in a clearing in the middle of the forest. She didn't know where she was. Just then, a man with a black cloak stepped out into the clearing. He looked very familiar. The man walked towards her and he gave her a smile.

"Eilene, you probably don't remember me but I am your father," the man said and that's when she remembered.

She remembered the same man's face. She was still very young before her father left. She always wondered who the man's face was.

"I'm sorry I left you," the man went on, "but I left for a reason. My job is very dangerous and I didn't want to leave knowing you would be worrying what would happen to your father. So I left and i'm sorry. Listen, I don't have much time but tomorrow I will see you. Tomorrow I will find you and I will explain everything. You don't know how important you are, Eilene."

Then she woke up.

After Eilene's Nectar Ceremony, when she and Ursa were about to follow Eric out the village, a man with a black hooded cloak walked towards her.

"Excuse me kind sir," the man spoke, "May I talk to Eilene? It's something very important."

Eilene looked at the man and her eyes widened. The memory of the dream came to her mind again.

"Eilene," Eric asked, "Do you know this man?"

Eilene looked at the man, her father. He looked back at her with pleading eyes. She nodded and Eric let her go with the man, Ursa following right behind her. When they were out of sight, the man pulled back her hood.

"Eilene, listen," the man said, "Do you remember the dream?"

Eilene nodded, unsure of what to say.

"There's something important I need to tell you but not here," he said, "Just remember me Eilene. I will send you another dream soon."

"But how? Why-" Eilene started but he cut her off.

"I promise, i'll explain everything," the man said with a smile, "You better get back to the Greencloak."

"Did you know I would summon, Ursa?" Eilene said, glancing at Ursa.

"Of course," the man said, "And you don't know how proud I am of you for summoning her. You don't know how important you and Ursa are."

"Eilene?" she heard Eric call.

"You better go," her father said and she nodded and walked to where Eric was.

Later that night, when Eric was asleep, she heard a voice go through her head.

"Eilene, meet me in the forest."

She knew that voice, her father's voice. Casting a glance at Eric, she carefully walked to the woods with Ursa following behind. She spotted her father who gave her a smile.

"Eilene, I need to tell you something," he said, "I am working for the Conquerors. The enemy of the Greencloaks."

Eilene's eyes widened but she didn't say anything, only waited for him to keep speaking.

"I've traveled all over Erdas, studying talismans and searching for the Great Beasts," he went on, "Finding out the secrets and the history of Erdas. That is when I found a very important book. Something you'll find out soon enough. I was also a wanted man but I have escaped. I...you can say was a master of disguise. Zerif then found me and told me to join him. To join him to get all the talismans so we could free Kovo and Gerathon, to rule the world."

Eilene kept on listening, curiosity burning in her eyes. She glanced at Ursa who was also listening intently.

"The book I found was related to something of Erdas' past," he continued, "but it was also related to the first war. Listen, Kovo was wrong to be blamed. I'll explain to you when the time is right but right now, I need you to work for the Conquerors, to work with me. We need you to spy on the other Keepers."

Eilene felt uncertain. She knew it wasn't right. She glanced at Ursa but her expression gave nothing away.

"Please, help me," his father's pleading voice said, "If you don't join us, they will surely kill me."

Eilene hesitated then said, "What do you want me to do?"

Just then, another figure walked out the forest. She was a girl, almost the same age as her.

"My name is Drina," the girl said, "My brother, Shane, is the Reptile King. We'll fill you in with the plan but first, you must drink the Bile."

Her father took something out of his small pack. It was a jar but when she looked inside, it was filled with black liquid. She glanced at Drina then at her father. Then she looked at Ursa who looked back at her. Then she took the jar.

Eilene and the group was walking in another city in Amaya and were looking for Dwayne so he could lead them to where the Copper Falcon was. As they entered the market area, she saw three men wearing black cloaks. She looked closer and saw that one of them was her father. Her father spotted her as well and nodded at her before going through an alley. She saw that Irene had spotted them too.

Later that night, she was laying down on her bed. She was sharing a room with Riley who was already fast asleep. She quickly removed her green cloak and she wore her black hooded cloak which was in her pack. Then she quietly climbed out the window then jumped from the window ledge to another ledge. She then ran through the shadows until she saw the alley where her father disappeared to. She found her father with the two men and Drina.

"Look," she heard her father say, "She's here right now."

"You asked for me?" she asked.

"I suppose you got my dream," Derek said with a smile.

"Listen," Drina said, "If you're going to join us, we need every single information. If you betray us, i'll kill you with my own hands."

Eilene looked at her for a while then spoke, "I don't plan on betraying you any sooner but there will be betraying and lots of it."

Drina smiled, "Good, now here's the plan..."

After she had explained everything, her father gave her some sort of necklace.

"This is the Obsidian Ape," Derek, her father explained, "It reveals the weaknesses of others. Use it so you can use it on your companions. Find out their weakness and make sure no one else knows you have this."

Eilene and the group had arrived in John's father's city. She saw John's father and her own father in the middle of the clearing with Drina.

"Wait," Eric was saying, "Before you do anything, please, we need antidote for our friend here."

"Please help her," John pleaded.

"Please Derek," Lord Gaundor added.

Her father looked at her and something flashed between them and he gave her a small nod. She knew it was an act. She knew her father won't let her die. The only reason she took the poison arrow was so that she could earn their trust but was it really just that?

When John returned with the talismans, Eilene had planned what she was going to say. She knew she had to say it, to protect John. She thought that if she hurt John, he might not get hurt when she betrays them all but she had clearly failed.

End of flashbacks
