Chapter Thirty Six - One Last Death
This is probably one of the worst endings in my stories and i'm having a hard time writing this. But sometimes you just have to write out of your comfort zone. Please don't hate me for writing this.
John's POV
John was running after Eilene again. This time, he wasn't chasing her. He was chasing Zerif with her. Hope rode on her Spirit Animal, Faith while Zoron ran beside. They were still chasing Zerif and was nearing where the Conqueror ships were. There were no other Conquerors in sight as Zerif climbed into the ship and quickly untied the ropes. The others still a good distance apart. Just when Zerif had almost untied the last rope, Eilene had reached the ship and climbed on, stopping him. She pulled out her staff as Zerif pulled out his sword. The others were still running towards them.
"What is she doing?" Hope exclaimed, "She's going to get herself killed."
"She's not thinking straight," Zoron said.
Just then, John felt a burst of speed go through him, his senses sharpening much more. He started running much faster than before and had reached the ship before the others.
"Ah, I see you're boyfriend joined us," Zerif said.
"Seriously, how many times do I have to say this," John exclaimed, "I don't have a girlfriend!"
"Just stop talking and fight," Eilene muttered and struck with her staff.
Zerif easily blocked it and shoved her away. John tried to attack from behind but he quickly dodged and kicked him to the side.
"He's too fast," John gasped.
"John!" Zoron shouted, "The rope is breaking!"
"We're not letting him get away," Eilene said, and struck again.
"I think that's not going to happen," Zerif sneered as he dodged it and kicked her hard, making her hit the side of the mast.
John launched himself at Zerif but he was too quick and had kicked him farther away. Zerif then turned around to where Eilene was getting up.
Zerif laughed, "Giving up now?"
Eilene looked at him, "I don't give up that easily."
Zerif shook his head then he slashed with his sword. Eilene barely dodged it then quickly pulled her staff up, making the sword fall out of Zerif's hands and into her hands. Then she looked at John and nodded. John looked back, confused and before he knew it, Eilene had sliced the rope that was connected to a lantern and it crashed into the ground, the fire spreading quickly. Zerif backed up in fear and tried to run away but Eilene had tackled him to the ground.
"Quick, run," Eilene yelled to John who was still on the ship.
"I'm not leaving you," John said but the fire had spread quickly that it was impossible for him to get to her.
"No, you're not," Eilene hesitated and she heard deep sadness and regret in her voice, "because i'm leaving you. You know that dream was going to happen."
Before John could do anything, hands had pulled him back and he realized that Zoron had pulled him back on the dock. Where he was standing a moment ago was now burning with fire. He tried to look for Eilene but the smoke had grown thick, making it impossible to see.
"No," Hope whispered and Zoron's head was bowed down low.
All John could think about was her last words.
"You know that dream was going to happen anyways."
How had she known?
John had finished packing the last of his clothes into his bag. He saw that his green cloak was left. John took it and looked at it for a while before sighing and putting it into his pack. After the war had won, thanks to the Four Fallen and their partners, he decided to stop being a Greencloak for a while. He needed time to think ever since that day.
He grabbed his pack and walked out the room. As he walked down the steps of Greenhaven, he saw the rest of the Keepers along with Eric, Ella, and Olvan, waiting for him. He walked towards them and managed to smile weakly.
"Hey," Jef said, "You better come back and visit."
John chuckled, "Don't worry, I will."
"And we'll try to visit you too," Ivan added.
"Don't you dare forget about us," Irene joked.
"After some adventures like that?" John exclaimed, "Certainly won't"
Riley gave him a smile, "Have fun back at home. I'll make sure to visit."
John gave her a grateful smile.
"Bring us back a souvenir or something," Zoey joked and Zoron added, "Take care, John and don't do anything stupid."
"Yes Captain Zoron," John said, saluting.
Hope smiled at him, "You are coming back, right?"
"Of course I am," John answered, "You're not losing me that easily."
Then lastly, John turned to his brother George.
"Well, goodbye big brother," George said sadly.
"What do you mean goodbye?" John exclaimed, "Aren't you going to visit?"
George's eyes widened, "Right, I knew that."
Everyone laughed then John said, "See you later little bro."
"I'm not that little, "George mumbled.
"You will come back," Eric said, and Ella added, "Yeah, don't waste our training."
"I won't," John promised, "When I come back, i'll be much stronger."
Lastly, Olvan turned to him, "Take as much time as you want, John. And I do hope you do come back or i'll be really sad to lose such a fine Greencloak like you."
"I will, Olvan," John said.
He looked around at his group, his team, his family. He had fought, traveled, and talked beside them for so long that it made it hard for him to leave but he knew he had to. With one last glance back at his team, he climbed on the ship and sailed back to his home. He had a feeling that this wasn't the end.
Shane's POV
Shane was wearing a hooded black cloaked and was walking through a small village. He finally stopped at a house and knocked on the door. No one answered. He slowly pushed the door open and looked inside. It was dark and empty, almost looked as if it was abandoned. As he entered the house, he saw a figure.
"What are you doing here, Shane?" a female voice asked.
"I'm here because I need your help," Shane said.
"What do you want?" she asked again.
Shane sighed, then spoke, "I need you to join the Redcloaks, Eilene."
She's alive! Eilene's alive! The chapter title is a lie! And i'm rhyming! (Okay that doesn't rhyme anymore)
For those of you who have stayed and read this book from the beginning till the end, thank you very much, it means a lot to me!
