Rollan and Meilin - Walking Away (Part One)

When someone was caught cheating on the other, it resulted in one of them walking away from the other. Resulted in one of them leaving the other.

Warning: This can get REALLY SAD! You have been WARNED.

-Abeke-

Conor and I walked into the cafeteria as usual, grabbing our breakfast. After that, we headed towards the table where we usually sat and spotted Rollan already there.

"He's early," Conor commented, "That's the first."

At the corner of my eye, I saw Meilin heading towards the table only to stop when she saw Rollan seating there as well. Both their gazes met and Meilin's hardened, anger flashing through her eyes. She then turned around and started towards another empty table which was all the way on the other side of the room, Rollan's gaze trailing after her, his eyes filled with sadness.

"They're still ignoring each other?" Conor asked, sounding a bit disappointed.

I only sighed, "I'll go talk to Meilin."

Conor glanced at Meilin's direction in concern, "Are you sure you want to do that?"

I understood his concern. The last time I talked to Meilin, we had almost ended up fighting until Conor arrived and stopped us in time. I didn't want things to get worst ever since the break-up...

To be honest, I didn't think I was ready to talk to her again. Things have been tensed around us lately.

Conor must've known what I was thinking for he then gave me a small smile, "I can talk to her this time."

"Are you sure?" I asked, slightly worried.

I never thought of the two of them as close for I never really saw them talk much. Though that may have changed ever since they went down to Sadre together which had been five years ago...

"Yeah, i'm sure," Conor nodded, "You already talked to Meilin and I don't want to have to suffer more of Rollan's whining." Though he was joking, I could tell that even he was really worried, "Plus, you might think of something to get him out his room. I pretty much failed at that."

I hesitated, still slightly reluctant before nodding, "Okay then. See you later."

He smiled then waved before heading towards Meilin's table. I walked to Rollan's table and then sat beside him. He didn't even look up as he poked at his food, not seeming to have eaten much.

"Are you going to eat that?" I asked him.

He barely looked up as he only mumbled, "Hm?"

"I said, are you going to eat that?" I repeated, slightly louder.

"I'm not really hungry," he mumbled again, his voice sad.

I was starting to get annoyed. Sure I was worried about my friends but Rollan and Meilin had broke up exactly three weeks ago. All they've been doing was avoiding each other, well, more like Meilin kept avoiding Rollan while he either kept trying to talk to her or locked himself in his room and sulked.

"Well, too bad," I said, my voice firm, "You're going to finish every single food in your plate. We're going hunting right after."

"Since when have I agreed?" Rollan asked, sounding a bit annoyed.

"You know, for a street boy like you, you're getting quite fat," I said.

He scowled, "Am not."

"And I bet you'd end up in jail since you've probably forgotten how to run," I went on.

"Apparently, I ended up here in Greenhaven. I ended up finding a real family. I ended up having the greatest girlfriend I could ever wish for," his voice grew louder by each word, "Then I ended up making the most stupidest mistake i've done in my whole entire life. I ended up hurting her as much as i've hurt myself. I ended up begging her to forgive me when it clearly seemed impossible since she obviously hates me right now. I ended up being the worst boyfriend to ever exist in the whole of Erdas!"

"Come on, that was your first time," I told him.

"And it's been going on for two years!" Rollan exclaimed, "Don't tell me that's isn't plenty experience for a first-timer!"

I stayed silent for a while. Now I understood how Conor felt when he had listened to Rollan. My annoyance faded to one of sympathy. I could almost feel his pain and distraught. I've felt something similar when I lost Uraza. I've felt something similar when Shane died...

"Well, shutting yourself in your room and sulking everyday isn't going to get her back," I said.

"I know that," he snapped, "but apparently, even standing outside her room, begging to talk to her doesn't get her back as well. Sitting at the table, hoping she'd come and join me doesn't get her back as well!"

"But that doesn't give you a reason to push yourself away from your friends," I told him, "We're here because we care. We're here to help you. And that's why i'm here right now cause we're going hunting right after and i'm not taking no for an answer."

For a moment, I thought Rollan was going to protest before his shoulders drooped, "Yeah...okay fine."

"Now eat up," I ordered, "An empty stomach won't help."

"But-"

I gave him a look, "Do you want me to bring Uraza?"

And he did as he was told.

-Conor-

"Hey," I greeted Meilin as I sat down next to her.

"What do you want?" Meilin muttered, not glancing at me, "Are you here to lecture me about moving on and other useless things?"

My smile wavered for a moment, having second thoughts if this was such a good idea. Ever since Sadre, they never talked as much as before for she was always busy talking to Rollan while I caught up with Abeke.

"Can't I sit beside a friend?" I asked.

"Look, I know you're probably going to convince me to stop locking myself in my room-"

"No, i'm not," I simply replied, "I'm just here to eat with my friend."

"Then why don't you seat with Abeke?" She snapped and I winced slightly, feeling a bit hurt at what she said.

"She's busy hanging out with Rollan-"

Meilin gave me a murderous glare, "Don't mention his name around me."

I understood why Meilin and Abeke almost fought. Meilin was not making this any easier.

I met her glare as I braced myself not to flinch and replied as firmly as I could, "Look, I understand that the break-up was hard-"

"Hard?" She cut me off, again, "Do you know how I felt when I saw him kissing someone else? Do you know how betrayed I felt when I trusted him my whole life? Do you think it felt hard? Do you know how that felt?"

By every word she said, anger was starting to grow inside of me.

Finally, I snapped, "Yes, I know how that felt like, Meilin, since you were one of those people. I know you probably didn't meant to do it but I felt- we felt betrayed. Do you know how it felt that one of your team, one of your friends had betrayed you? Do you know how it felt that half of your team was missing? Do you know how hard it was to move on with the mission while the other half of our team were being held prisoners under our enemies?"

Meilin seemed taken aback but I went on, "It wasn't just you that betrayed us. It wasn't just Rollan. All of us had betrayed each other in some way. I betrayed you all by giving away the Iron Boar to save my family. I betrayed you all when I gathered an army of the infected to stop you..." At that, my voice began to break, knowing that I had betrayed Meilin specifically when I became infected.

"You think it was just Rollan who broke his promises to you?" I kept going, my voice wavering as I had flashbacks, "You broke a promise to me. You promised me that you would stop me before I turned, that you would..." The memories were just too overwhelming that I stopped for a moment before taking a deep breath, "And you're breaking another one now...you're pushing away your team, your friends when we all promised to stay together."

"But even with those betrayals, we kept going, we moved on. Even when we were missing half our team, we found support and comfort with others. I know that the break-up was hard for you and I know that these betrayals aren't exactly the same. But all i'm trying to say is that i'm here because i'm trying to help you, we all are, just like before."

I knew that what I was about to say might result with me getting injured but I had to let it out, "You said that you wanted to go back to Zhong because you thought you weren't helping much when you stayed here in Greenhaven. You went to Zhong but then came back in regret. When you're trying to push me away a couple of minutes ago, it's just like how you left to go to Zhong. I've been guilty the whole trip, thinking that since i've given away the Iron Boar, I caused my friend's absence."

She stayed silent, refusing to make eye-contact.

"I know that I said that I wasn't here to lecture you but you just pushed me," I took a deep breath, "Sometimes, it's best not to dwell in the past."

"Are you saying that I try to forget what he did?" She muttered, slightly cold.

"I'm just saying that there's no point in holding a grudge," I told her, "I know you're not one to forgive others easily but forgive me when I say this..."

At that, I stood up, not glancing at her, "Sometimes, maybe you should try and follow Jhi's example and just...let it go."

I then walked away, leaving her alone at the table.

-Meilin-

I sighed before deciding to head towards my room. As soon as I stepped inside, i've locked the door and collapsed onto my bed. I never thought that I would think this but Conor was right.

I pushed Rollan away, I pushed Abeke away, now I pushed Conor away. I've pushed my whole team away.

I shut my eyes, trying to hold back my tears but I felt one escape, trickling down my cheek. I soon fell asleep.

-A few months later-

"What do you mean he's not with you?" Olvan demanded.

Me, Abeke and a couple of Greencloaks were currently outside at the moment, listening as Conor struggled to tell the news. Conor and Rollan had ridden a boat to Amaya for Olvan had sent them on a short quest. Conor's clothes were damp and torn.

"He..." Conor's voice trailed off, his eyes filled with pain, "As we were coming back from Amaya, the fishermen were warning us to wait another day for there was an upcoming storm. Rollan...he insisted for we were already late enough plus he couldn't wait..." when he said that, he glanced at me, his gaze hardening as if he were silently blaming me.

I knew what he meant. Rollan was rushing back because he wanted to come back and see me. I remembered his promise just before he left.

"I tried to warn him but he insisted in going alone if I weren't coming," Conor went on, "So I had no choice but to go with him. As we were sailing back, we got caught in the storm. The rope that was connected to Rollan to keep him from falling off..." His voice cracked when he said, "It snapped."

"No..." Abeke's voice trailed off.

I then demanded, "Where is he?"

Conor looked at me, his eyes mixed with guilt, anger, and pain, "He's gone."

I decided to make this into a story so you could say that this is just a sneak-a-peak. Sorry if I made you cry, I was feeling for a sad story today...
