Rollan and Meilin/Shane and Abeke (Conor) - Fate Lies in Names

Conor finally had the chance to continue his learning with reading and writing. Meilin, feeling somewhat guilty and feeling responsible for not trying to help him when he was infected, volunteers to teach Conor. As he began to learn, he then starts to realize with shock as he makes an interesting discovery.

Just something I thought off. This takes place after Burning Tide, just when Abeke returns with Uraza. Reilin and Shanbeke for you, though it will be in Conor's POV.

"Meilin, you really don't have to," Conor told the Zhongese girl who was currently in his room.

"But I will," Meilin replied, firmly, "I'm going to teach you whether you want me to or not."

"Well...what about Rollan?" Conor asked, "You guys haven't caught up yet and he would probably be looking forward to that..."

Meilin raised an eyebrow, "What are you getting at?"

Conor sighed, "Come on, it's pretty obvious. When will you two admit it already?"

"He can wait," Meilin insisted.

It was silent for a while before Conor spoke, "Is this because of what happened...?"

Meilin didn't reply but they both knew that he was referring to the time when Conor lost to the Wyrm. He sighed again, "Meilin, it wasn't your fault. It was mine."

"No, I didn't try hard enough," Meilin muttered, "We should've been more quicker, I should've tried harder to help you-"

"You know there was nothing you could've done," Conor interrupted her.

"I know," she said quietly then added more strongly, "That's why i'm going to make that up by teaching you. So don't try to talk me out of this for I've already made up my mind."

Conor sighed and knew that once she made up her mind, it was nearly impossible to change it, "Okay fine."

-A couple hours later-

Conor slowly wrote something down on his paper before leaning back in satisfaction as he finished writing. Then he glanced at Meilin who nodded in approval, "There you go. You spelled your name right."

Conor grinned, "Thanks to you."

"Okay, now write my name," Meilin instructed.

Conor started writing her name as Meilin slowly recited the letters to him.

M...E...I...L...I...N

He slowly wrote it until he had finished writing the N before glancing back at Meilin. She nodded once more and Conor started writing Rollan's name as Meilin once again recited it.

R...O...L...L...A...N

"You're getting better at this," Meilin remarked, "And you're learning fast."

"That's because you're my teacher and you're pushing me unlike those who tutored me before who went slow," Conor replied as Meilin gave him a playful glare.

"Okay, now spell Abeke's name," Meilin instructed and he did.

A...B...E...K...E

"Nice, though your B is a bit wonky," Meilin told him.

Conor only shrugged, "I'll practice on that."

"Now let's try with an S," Meilin hummed as she thought. She then hesitated before saying, "Why don't you try and spell...Shane?"

Conor flinched upon hearing that name but shrugged it off as he nodded. As Meilin recited the letters, Conor tried not to let it get to him but he then remembered. Seeing Abeke's sad and grief-stricken face as she mentioned of Shane's death.

S...H...A...N...E

"Yeah, you need to practice on your S," Meilin pointed out to him.

Conor sighed, "Yeah, i'll practice on that."

"Well, I think you deserve a break-" Just as Meilin finished speaking, someone had abruptly burst into the room.

Conor turned to see that it was Rollan. Meilin rolled her eyes as she spoke in an annoyed tone, "Have you ever heard about knocking?"

"Actually, I have heard of that word before," Rollan replied flatly.

"Then why don't you use that brain of yours and figure out how to knock?" Meilin snapped.

"If you haven't known, I actually did just that a couple of seconds ago," Rollan told her dryly, "I just knocked into your door. So I already have figured it out."

Just when Meilin was about to say something, Conor beat her to it, "So, why are you here?"

"I'm just here to tell you guys that Abeke came back with Uraza," Rollan announced and they both relaxed from relief when hearing of their friend's safe return.

"Okay then, we'll continue this tomorrow," Meilin told him.

"Sure, you two can go ahead," Conor nodded to them, "I'll be right behind you guys."

As soon as the two left, Conor went to his desk where him and Meilin were practicing with his writing. As he was about to clean the papers and the books, Conor stopped as he slowly read the first two names on the paper.

M...E...I...L...I...N

R...O...L...L...A...N

Well, they surely are a match, no matter how many times they argue, Conor smiled at the thought, knowing that his friends were happy.

As he read the names, he then noticed with a slight surprise. He then froze upon realization at what he had just discovered. He then read the other two names.

A...B...E...K...E

S...H...A...N...E

He froze in shock, his eyes widening. Was it really just a coincidence? Then again...it kinda did make sense.

Before he left, he underlined the last letter of each name.

M...E...I...L...I...N

R...O...L...L...A...N

The feelings are obvious here, Conor thought then proceeded to the next names.

A...B...E...K...E

S...H...A...N...E

He glanced at the two last letters then sighed sadly for his close friend.

"It's true that Shane returned the feelings as soon as he sacrificed his life for her," Conor murmured to himself, "Sadly, he left too soon."

He glanced at his own name, feeling a pang of sadness.

C...O...N...O...R

He sighed again, "Does fate really lies in names or is this all just a coincidence?"

So, if you don't get what's happening here, let me explain.

Rollan and Meilin both end with the letter N and they are an obvious ship that we all love.

Shane and Abeke both end with E and they are another ship who quickly sunk in Burning Tide.

I just thought about it at some random point today. Anyways, happy Halloween I guess. I'll try and make a one-shot for this holiday if I have time.
