Rollan and Abeke - Some Hunt

It started off with a chess game and ended with some hunt.

So I was reading galaxy_runner new one-shot (which you should check out) about Conbeke and I decided to mix it up a bit, this time Abeke's with Rollan. Don't get me wrong now, they're my BROTP.

Conor and Meilin were sitting at a table, beside a tree, somewhere outside Greenhaven. Conor had been staring at the chessboard in front of him, his eyes crunched up with concentration as he thought of what to move. Meilin laid back, more relaxed, as she started to get impatient.

"Are you going to make a move or what?" Meilin asked, failing to hide the irritation in her voice.

"I'm thinking," Conor replied, not taking his eyes off the chessboard.

Finally, he moved his knight (which Conor insisted calling a horse) as it took out one of her pawns. Weak move since there's like six more but he couldn't think of anything else. Meilin smirked and Conor already knew he had lost right before she moved her queen into a spot, forcing his king into a...

"Checkmate," Meilin said, "Three of one. I win, obviously."

"At least I won that first game," Conor said.

"I let you win," Meilin corrected.

Conor sighed, "Can you just go with me beating you for once? It's the only thing I can beat you at!"

"Except for racing," Meilin pointed out, but she let out a small smile, "but sure."

Just then, there were fast footsteps and they turned their heads to see Rollan and Abeke running towards them, which didn't look good. Their eyes were wide, leaves covered their clothes and hair though it was mostly Rollan, and he wore some sort of flower hat. Even Uraza had leaves in her fur.

"What happened to you guys?" Conor asked, "You looked like you've seen Zerif's ghost."

Rollan and Abeke exchanged a glance.

-A Few Hours Ago-

"So," Rollan asked, "Where are we going again?"

"The woods," Abeke replied in a tone that sounded like, 'duh.'

"I can clearly see that," Rollan snapped, "I meant why did you wake me up before the sun was even out? I thought you were Olvan!"

Abeke sighed, "Tell me what day it is today."

"I don't know," Rollan replied, "Day-off-for-Rollan day?"

Abeke rolled her eyes, "Stupid, it's the day we defeated the Wyrm."

"More like the day I almost died and you hit the bell with your Abeke-leveled bow and arrow skills," Rollan said but when he saw that she was serious, he seemed momentarily shock, "Wait, it's today?!"

"Oh no," Abeke replied sarcastically, "That's why we're out here in the woods, hunting for some prey to bring back for the feast- What do you think?"

"Ha, ha. I knew that," Rollan muttered, "but why did you bring me? I can't use a bow and I bet for a hundred Amayan coins that Meilin could shoot almost at Abeke-level."

"First of all, I don't want a cranky Meilin hunting with me," Abeke said, "Second of all, you've already used a bow and had some experience with hunting when we met Tellun."

"Third of all? Conor?"

She just shrugged, "He needed the rest."

Rollan glared at her, "Conor needs a rest and I don't? I know Conor's your favorite but it doesn't mean-"

"I meant he needed the rest since it's like, you know, the day we defeated the Wyrm," Abeke said, "And I don't want him to be reminded of, you know, getting infected."

"How about the part where, you know, the Wyrm itself almost, you know, killed me?" Rollan mocked, earning a playful punch on his arm.

Uraza then growled at them and stalked forward, ears pricked and tail flicking.

"Who ruffled her fur the wrong way?" Rollan muttered.

"It means she found something and she's trying to shut up a certain, noisy Amayan boy," Abeke hissed, dropping into a crouch beside Uraza.

Rollan dropped into a crouch beside Abeke as he placed a hand over his heart with exaggeration. Abeke rolled her eyes, wondering how Meilin could stand the guy without killing him in the process.

They crept forward until they saw an antelope, right in the middle of the clearing, grazing on the grass alone. It raised its head, ears pricked and shoulders tense before bending down to the grass once more.

"Okay, now we just- No wait!"

Welp, too late. Rollan had already let the arrow fly, hitting the grass an inch away from the antelopes head. In the moment of confusion, Abeke immediately drew back her bow and it met its target as the antelope went down, an arrow wedged on its neck.

Abeke glared at him, "I said wait."

"You hit it, didn't you?" Rollan said, "Plus, what could go wrong?"

"Shut up!" Abeke exclaimed, "You're going to jinx this hunt!"

"Tsk tsk, superstitious girl."

"Tenavo."

(A/N: I had to go back and search for the word in book two of the second series!)

Abeke shook her head before walking towards the antelope where Uraza was already sniffing at. She sighed then bent down before speaking, "I'm sorry for taking your life but I made sure that it had been a quick and painless. We need it for my family here so thank you for saving us in your death."

"You said the same thing back in Arctica," Rollan said as he helped Abeke tie up the antelope to carry more easily, "Well, something along those lines."

"You can't remember that we defeated the Wyrm on this day but you can remember that?" Abeke teased, "Arctica must have some very memorable memories for you. Well, you and, you know, Meilin."

Rollan turned red, "I-I don't know what you're talking about."

"With the, you know, kissy-face and stuff-"

"Ah shut up!"

Just then, there was a growl and Abeke knew that it didn't come from Uraza. They both turned around to find a mountain lion prowling into view, looking at them with a hungry gaze.

"Tenavo."

"Oh great Cabaro."

"Rollan, that is not Cabaro."

"Abeke, that is not what I meant."

The lion stalked closer and Abeke immediately nudged him, "Give it the antelope."

This only made Rollan grip it tighter, glaring back at the lion, "Let it find its own prey."

Thinking that he was feeling a bit braver, he quickly dropped the antelope, took out his bow and arrow and let it fly. The arrow didn't even came close to the lion.

"This is why we wait," Abeke muttered.

"I'm not waiting to become fresh-kill," Rollan snapped.

The lion launched forward and without thinking, Rollan just grabbed for a bunch of arrows and threw it at the lion. The lion stumbled back from the many arrows, momentarily shocked.

"Run?"

"Great plan."

Rollan carried the antelope and he and Abeke ran as fast as they could with Uraza speeding ahead. They ran for a long time until Uraza immediately stopped, making Abeke skid and land into the bushes. Rollan dove head first deeper into the bushes, taking the antelope with it.

-End of Flashback-

Wow," was Conor's reply as Abeke finished the story.

"It still doesn't explain why there's a flower hat on his head," Meilin said.

That's when Abeke grinned mischievously, "Since he committed Tenavo, he has to do the intenavo dance that we used to do in the village."

Rollan glared at Abeke, "Remind me not to go hunting with you again."

"Remind me not to take you hunting again," Abeke replied.

"Deal."

"Checkmate!" Conor exclaimed and Meilin looked back at the chessboard, surprised, "Finally!"

Meilin sighed, "Fine, you win."

Conor smirked at Rollan, "So, that dance?"

Nice for a change, you could say and sorry for the absence. Some things have been happening.

Question: Who has a closer friendship? Rollan and Abeke or Conor and Meilin?

I'd say Rollan and Abeke. I didn't see Conor and Meilin talking much in the first series and had only begun to feel closer in the second series. Rollan and Abeke were already exchanging hand signals, having the same understanding of the importance of food, and whatnots.

They also had more conversations then what Conor and Meilin had. The only time those two talked ALONE, before the second series, was when Conor was joking about his axe when they had their first battle in book one.

But what do YOU guys think?

*whispers* Check out my short Percabeth story. It's REALLY short!
