Conor and Abeke - I'm On Your Side
What if Conor and Abeke had met differently that first day?
Takes place in "Wild Born" when the Four Fallen first met.
-Abeke-
I swung the Granite Ram around my neck as the ground below me started to crumble. Uraza was currently a tattoo on my arm. Just when it wad about to give way, I jumped off as far as I could, feeling a boost as I jumped. I grabbed onto the ledge, pulled myself up and started running before skidding to a stop.
Right in front of me was a boy that had blonde hair and green eyes. He looked like he was about the same age as me and from his cloak, he was a Greencloak. His eyes were narrowed in concentration as his grip tightened.
I quickly took my bow, grabbed an arrow, aiming at him.
He stiffened but he tried to speak calmly, "Listen. Abeke, right? We're not the enemy-"
I recalled Shane warning me that these Greencloaks would try and trick them.
I pulled back the arrow and let it fly but he dodged it just in time. Just when he was still getting up, I called out Uraza and soon, the Great Leopard let out a snarl and charged. There was another bright light and immediately, a huge wolf with cobalt eyes growled, making Uraza skid to a stop.
The leopard snarled viciously but the wolf let out a deathly growl, bravely standing in front of the boy. That's when I realized that this must be Briggan the Wolf and the boy was his summoner.
The boy glanced at the two beasts and his eyes flashed uncertainly as he glanced back at me. Even I didn't seem to know what to do.
I then caught a glimpse of Zerif, heading for the boy with unnatural speed from his jackal. His sharp blade was raised as he was about to stab the boy. Instinct kicked in and I changed my aim and let the arrow fly, making it pierce to Zerif's hand. The boy whirled around and dodged an attack from the jackal. The jackal tried to attack once more but both Briggan and Uraza faced it, giving it death growls.
Zerif glanced at the boy then at me, his eyes filled with anger, "What are you doing?"
"I'm changing sides," I replied firmly, "I'm not a murderer."
Zerif's anger grew but knowing that they were losing, he got up then limped to the retreating Conquerors. That's when the Greencloaks realized that I had stayed.
The Zhongese girl glared at me, "Why are you still here?"
"Wait," the boy spoke before I could, "It's okay, Meilin. She...saved my life."
"She did?" The other boy who wore a gray cloak, repeated suspiciously, "Cause a minute ago, she was shooting arrows at us while her boyfriend tried to slice us to pieces."
"You think i'd be kidding at a time like this?" The boy told him, "She saved me from Zerif."
I finally decided to speak, removing the Granite Ram, "I'm on your side."
The eldest Greencloak, who seemed to be the leader, studied me for a while before nodding. I gave him the talisman which he took.
"Thank you," the Greencloak said.
"She's apparently telling the truth," the boy muttered.
"That doesn't make me trust her," the girl named Meilin said before walking away.
The other boy decided to follow while the Greencloak walked to two other adults.
"They'll start trusting you eventually," I realized that the other boy was still there.
"What makes you think that?" I asked doubtfully, "They were right. I was in the wrong side."
"Not anymore," he gave me a genuine smile, "And plus, I trust you."
"You...do?" I said in surprise.
"You saved my life," he said, "I owe you."
I finally let out a sigh of relief, "Thank you. I'm Abeke."
He smiled again and I felt warmth, "I'm Conor. Welcome to the team."
