As soon as Rollan and Meilin entered the haunted house, there was a loud creak and the huge doors were suddenly closing. Conor and Abeke reacted too late as the door slammed shut, trapping their friends on the other side. Inside the huge, haunted mansion.
"I thought you said that the door would close as soon as it was midnight?" Abeke exclaimed at the black hooded boy.
The boy only shrugged though confusion was in his tone, "I have no idea what had happen. The only way they can get out is if they find the Silver Bat. In the meanwhile, you may as well start on the second mission before midnight."
"Second mission?" Conor exclaimed, "You're not even the least worried about them?"
"Don't you guys trust them?" The boy countered, "They had as much experience as you have. They both can fight, they're both smart (in their own way) and they both have Great Beast as Spirit Animals. Not to mention, the two of them are together."
"What does the last sentence mean?" Abeke asked.
"It means that they care for the other that much not to let them die," the boy replied, "That's what I meant. Let's not waste anymore time and let's just go."
The boy then started walking through the forest without waiting for their reply. Conor and Abeke both exchanged a glance before walking after him. As soon as they entered, they had immediately emerged into a neighborhood, a huge dark house looming nearby. The two glanced at each other in surprise, not knowing that there had been a village nearby.
The boy then pointed to the huge dark house, "All you have to do is impress the lady who lives in there and she'll give you the Black Cat in return."
"Silver Bat then Black Cat?" Conor muttered, "What's next? A White Sheep?"
"Better hurry up now," the boy said, "Remember, you only have till midnight. Time is ticking. Oh, and you'll be needing these," the boy then gave them a pumpkin with a handle on top. The top was opened and it was empty and hollow inside.
"What are these for?" Conor asked in confusion.
"They're pumpkin bags," the boy simply answered then added jokingly, "You know, for emergencies."
"And what will you do?" Abeke asked.
"Getting you prepared for the final mission," the boy said before he started walking to where the other houses were.
They both exchanged another glance, shrugged, then started walking hesitantly towards the dark house. Conor hesitated then reluctantly knocked on the door which barely made much noise. Conor was surprised to feel how hard the wood actually was that it felt like metal, bruising his knuckles.
"Um, I think we press this," Abeke suggested then pressed some sort of button beside the door.
As soon as she pressed that though, there was a loud ringing noise that made both of them jump. They had never heard of that sound before. The door creaked open and there, an old lady with thin gray, wavy-like hair stood, wearing a long black robe. The lady then cracked a smile and they both tried hard not to flinch as they saw her teeth, being the polite people they are.
"Oh, well hello there young lads," the lady said in a cracked voice, "Are you here for trick-or-treating?"
"Trick-or-treating?" Abeke echoed in confusion as she glanced at Conor who was equally baffled.
"Um, no m-ma'am," Conor replied as politely as he could, "We were hoping if you have a Black Cat."
"A Black Cat?" The lady echoed, "Now that's something you don't hear everyday."
"So...you don't have one?" Abeke asked, disappointment in her voice.
"Of course I do," she exclaimed, "but we give treats in Hallows Eve, not cats. Especially Black Cats for those bring bad luck."
"We'll do anything," Abeke quickly told her, "We promise that we would take care of it. Tell us what to do and we'll do it."
The lady was in deep thought before she spoke, "Very well. You see those beautifully made pumpkin bags you have? If you could fill them all up before midnight, then the Black Cat is all yours."
"Fill them up, got it," Conor nodded then asked, confused, "Fill them up with what?"
"Oh you silly lad," the lady let out a wheezing laugh and started closing the door, "Enjoy Hallows Eve with your girlfriend."
"G-Girlfriend," Conor stuttered and they both avoided eye contact as they blushed.
Abeke then coughed out loud, interrupting the awkward silence, "So, uh, what's Hallows Eve?"
"And what's trick-or-treating?" Conor added in confusion, "Maybe we should go to the other houses. I see some other people, I think. They might know what it is."
They start walking towards to one of the figures who was facing someone else so that the back was facing them.
"Um, excuse me," Conor said, tapping the boy's shoulder.
Just then, the boy turned and Conor and Abeke stumbled back, gasping as they saw him. His black hair was slick back neatly, wearing a long black cloak that went all the way down to his knees and two sharp-looking fangs in his mouth.
"Bleh, bleh, bleh," the boy said weirdly, "I am Dracula! Who are you?"
Before either of them could reply, the boy from earlier quickly stepped forward, "Ah, there you are my friends. Let's go here, shall we?"
As soon as they boy led them to a safe distance from the other figures, Abeke exclaimed, "Okay, who is that? No wait, what was that? Where are we?"
"Um, we may or may not be somewhere in a different world," the boy mumbled.
"What?" They both exclaimed.
"Look, the only way all of us can get out of here and back to Erdas is if you finish this mission," the boy went on in a serious tone, "So you probably have lots of questions so let me answer them. Hallows Eve, also known as Halloween, is a celebration. Trick-or-treating is some activity you do during this event."
"Well, what are we supposed to do?" Abeke snapped, "This clearly doesn't help us."
"It's simple," the boy instructed, "Go knocking at other people's houses, say trick-or-treat, show them your bag and if you're lucky, they'll give you candy."
"Candy?" Conor echoed in confusion, "Why would they give candy?"
"I'm as baffled as you are," the boy said, "This world is a world full of craziness. Anyways, if you'd have any chance of getting lots of candy, you'll need to be in a costume."
"Okay, this is ridiculous," Abeke exclaimed, "Who on Erdas would do that?"
The boy said, "Um, we are kind of in a different world."
"Let's just go and do this 'trick-or-treating' thing, fill our bags with candy before midnight, bring it back to that lady and get back to Erdas and the others," Conor decided, "but we're not wearing any costumes."
"But-" The boy was cut off by Abeke.
"We're wasting time," Abeke then grabbed Conor's hand and pulled her with him to the nearest house.
Conor saw the same button again and this time, Abeke pressed it. As she did, they still flinched as they heard the huge, dinging sound.
"This is really weird," Conor muttered to Abeke.
The door then opened revealing a woman with black robes and a pointy hat. She carried a broom and smiled at them kindly.
They both exchanged a glance before Abeke pulled out her bag, "Um, trick-or-treat?"
Conor quickly copied her as he plastered a fake smile. The woman then chuckled before revealing a huge bag if her own. She took out a handful of what looked like candy and dropped it in Abeke's bag. Then she dropped another handful in Conor's bag.
"Thanks," Conor told her.
"Happy Halloween," the woman called to them before shutting their door.
"Well, that's one down," Abeke said as they started walking to the next house.
Conor studied his and Abeke's bag before muttering, "We'll need about nine or ten more houses to go."
-A couple of dinging houses after-
"One more house should do the trick," Abeke told Conor as they carefully carried their nearly full bags to the last house.
As they reached the door, Conor reluctantly pressed the button and they both still flinched as they heard the sound. They did not like that sound.
The door opened to reveal a man with a neat, white suit, a matching white fedora and a dull frown on his face. He looked at them, his huge bag if candy right in front of him.
"Trick-or-treat," Abeke said as they both pulled out their bags.
The man looked at them for a while before taking out only one candy for each of their bags.
"That is because of the creativity of your costumes," the man muttered, hearing the disapproval.
"What?" Conor exclaimed, "What's wrong with our costumes."
"It's boring," the man answered flatly.
Abeke's shoulders droop, knowing that they were running out of time and that they needed to fill it up.
"Actually, you're wrong," Conor then fired, "Our costumes tell an even better story than all of everyone's combined."
The man looked at him, "Alright then. Impress me."
"These costumes came from another world, a world far better," Conor said, "These costumes have traveled great distances, across seas, mountains, jungles, and desserts. These costumes have experienced what used to be a dull life of a shepherd boy to going on life-threatening adventures. These costumes are actual real clothes!"
"These clothes have experienced both life and death," Abeke added, "They experienced the meaning of a true family and betrayal. These costumes may not be so creative but they tell much more meaning then most."
"And this is true because?" The man asked, his face still dull and unconvinced.
"Because we could do this," Conor called out, "Briggan!"
There was a flash of light and there stood the Great Wolf. The man trembled at the sight of the wolf, his gaze turning into awe. Abeke called out Uraza and there the Great Leopard stood beside Briggan.
At first, the man seemed to have lost his voice before he cleared his throat, righting his posture, "You are indeed telling the truth."
The man then gave each of them a handful of candy which cheered Conor and Abeke up. They quickly called back their Spirit Animals and raced back towards the old lady. The lady was already waiting for them at the house, petting a black cat in her arms.
"Well, hello there lads," the lady cackled.
"Here are your candies, ma'am," Conor said as they both set down their bags.
The old lady smiled, released the cat and it then ran towards them with such speed. Conor wasn't sure but he thought that the cat had grown much bigger, almost as big as Uraza. Before either of them could move, the cat leaped and they were surrounded by darkness.
