The teenage boy looked up at his brother. He sighed as he handed the boy the satchel. "Are you sure you are ready? Your powers aren't that cultivated yet."
The boy shook his head. "No, I am fine brother. Do not worry about me."
His brother nodded, and then turned to look at the servants. They were packing food and other supplies into a wagon for him. "Do you need anything else, Young Master?"
The boy chuckled. "I think I have everything at the moment. Besides, all the others should have a ton of stuff with them as well."
The maid bowed before turning around. His brother turned to look at him. "You are to be escorted to the town, were you will meet the others. Once that is done, you should head out with them, alright? You'll be on your own after that..."
"Relax, brother. I can handle it. Do not worry."
His brother frowned. "Yes, but-"
"Fire is one of the strongest of the Elements, I think I can manage." the boy said, patting his older brother's shoulder.
His brother nodded before stepping backwards. "I bid you farewell, brother."
The boy nodded as he got into the wagon. As soon as the door shut, the wagon began to move. He looked out the window and looked at the world around him. Hills rolled along the dusty path, and the sky was a crystal blue. After a little while longer, the sky darkened and the hills vanished, being replaced with sandy desert. The boy yawned before he dozed off.
When he opened his eyes, it was early morning. The desert was gone and in its place was a forest. The sky was a rosy pink and filled with little streaks of red and orange.
The boy sighed as he pulled out the scroll from the satchel. He rolled it open and reread the message. It simply said who had what power, where to meet, and what was expected of the new Evil brought into this world.
In Nahara, the Kingdom they lived in, four children were born with the power of a specific Element every generation. They were only born into Nobility, and were considered the most powerful people of the world. Other kingdoms didn't have such people, but did have small bits and pieces of magic here and there, but none with as much power as the Boy could possess.
Suddenly, the wagon came to a stop. The boy peeked out the window to see the poor town. He didn't think they'd be meeting in such a poor place, but it'd have to do. He rolled the scroll back up and placed it in the satchel. He slung it over his neck as he got out of the wagon.
The wagon driver nodded at him before walking over to the town stable and purchasing a horse to ride back on. The boy led the horse and wagon over to the stables and got a place for it. He then walked over to the meeting place; the town fountain.
The boy stared down at himself. His hair was a flame red, making it clear what ability he had. His eyes were a darker color, almost black, even. His skin was tanned from all the days he spent outside and training. he tugged on the brown jacket he wore and brushed off the dust from his traveling pants and boots. He nodded before sitting down on the edge of the fountain.
The boy could hear the people whispering about him. They probably figured he was the Fire Element, and he knew he'd get respect now. As he was sitting there, he tuned into one conversation.
"That is the Fire Element? They seem to be getting a bit older now."
"I know. But, what about Nathan?"
The boy frowned. Who was Nathan?
"I do not know, his friends all said he was an Element, but that was probably a prank."
"It had to be, all the others were announced a week ago."
The boy was about to ask about that, when a girl appeared in front of him. "Hello, my name is Lela, what about you?"
"I'm Ayden, the Fire Element."
Lela chuckled. "I figured." Lela had darker toned skin with dark hair. Her eyes were a dark blue color, and she looked as if she were from the south of the Kingdom. She wore a blue traveling dress that reached just below her knees. She had on black tights underneath them and brown traveling boots that went halfway up her calves.
"Where are you from?" She asked, sitting down next to him.
"I am the Lord of Malnerva's son. It is about a day's wagon ride from this town.
Lela nodded. "It took me about four days on a horse to get from my Manor. It is down south. I doubt you've heard of it, but it is called the Gen Manor."
"I have heard of it." Ayden said, turning to look around at the townsfolk.
"That is nice."
"I do not think you told me, but what is your Element?"
Lela's face was colored with red. "Oh, sorry. It is Water."
Ayden chuckled. "You do not need to be nervous around me." he said in a mock seductive tone. He always did that to basically see their personality type. Sometimes they would never talk to him again, but most times they'd play back, thinking he was actually into them. A rarity was when they slapped him. He awaited Lela's reaction, only because he wanted to see what kind of personality type she was.
Lela stared at him, clearly trying to see if it was a joke or not. "I was kidding." He said, laughing.
Lela burst into laughter as well. "I am sorry, but am I missing something?"
They both stopped laughing as they looked up to see who spoke. A boy stood there. He had slightly tanned skin, light blonde hair, and gray eyes. He was wearing a white tunic with black travelling pants and black travelling boots. On his belt he had a sword sheath, with a Katana in it.
"Oh, hello." Ayden said, standing up to shake his hand. "My name is Ayden, and this is Lela."
"I am Wesley, Air Element. You are Fire and Water, right?"
Ayden and Lela both nodded. "Now, all we need is Earth, and we can go on our way."
Wesley nodded at Lela after she made her statement. "Well, I think we should find something to eat. Shall I go see if I can buy anything?"
Lela said 'Sure', so Wesley went off to go grab some food. As they sat there, a girl walked up to them. She wore a green dress similar to Lela's, except it looked more like a wrap and exposed much more. She had dark brown hair that was done in a side braid, tan skin, and brilliant green eyes. She didn't have any tights on, but rather tall boots that went up her dress.
"I am Ashlee, it is nice to meet you all!"
"Welcome, Earth Element. My name is Ayden, the Fire Element, and this is Lela, the Water Element. Wesley, the Air Element, is purchasing breakfast for us right now."
Ashlee nodded. She then tugged on her braid, and then sat down. Soon, Wesley was back. After he introduced himself, they ate in silence as the villagers occasionally stared at them. Suddenly, a boy bolted through the Market Place. He had pale skin, dirty blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes. He wore a ragged shirt, ragged pants, and had no shoes on. In his arms he held a bundle of food, and some men were chasing after him, yelling 'Thief'.
Ayden stood up and ran towards the boy, easily moving quicker than the men chasing him. The other Elements were soon behind him, all of them chasing after the Thief. The boy cast a glance behind him and ran quicker when he saw them chasing him.
Soon, they managed to chase him into a dead end alleyway. The boy turned to look at them, and then clutched the bundle closer to his chest. "What do you want?" he asked, his voice quavering.
"All we ask is that you hand the food over willingly." Ashlee said, crossing her arms.
"Or what?"
"We use or powers to make you give it back."
The boy's eyes widened before he hugged it even tighter to his chest. "You Nobles would never understand." he said, tears coming to his eyes.
Wesley made a hand motion. "Yeah, sure. we don't live like you do, but we understand what stealing is. Hand it over."
A single tear rolled down the boy's face. "Please, just let me go."
"It wouldn't look good if we just let you go, now would it?" Lela asked, water starting to swirl around her waist.
Ayden nodded as he summoned his fire. "We are good guys, and we defeat the bad guys."
The boy shivered as he watched them summon their powers. That is when the boy looked down, his grip slightly loosening on the bundle. Ayden relaxed his power, starting to draw it back in. "That is it...just give it to us quietly."
That is when the boy looked up, a smirk smeared across his face. "Like hell I would."
"What did you say?" Ashlee asked, the ground rumbling beneath her.
That is when the boy repeated what he said, making Ashlee only madder. "Just give it to us so we don't have to hurt you!"
That is when the boy looked around. "I could really use some help." he grumbled.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps behind them. They all whipped around to see a boy around seventeen standing there. He had pale skin, much paler than the Thief's, Platinum hair, and violet eyes. He wore the same clothing, except his shirt was purple and he had on sandals. "What do you need, Sam?" he asked, eyeing the Elements.
"These guys won't let me be, think you can take 'em?"
"Yes, I think I can."
Ashlee scoffed. "Oh please, don't make us laugh."
Lela chuckled. "We are the Elements, the most powerful group in the world. Do you think a street boy like you can take us on?"
The boy sighed. "I really hate hurting good people." He said, drawing his hands back. "But for my friends, I'd do anything."
His violet eyes seemed to glow as he said this. As soon as Ayden looked at them, he was in another place. His own house, standing by a coffin. His mother lay in it, and he fell to his knees, just like he did the day she died. He wailed as tears streamed down his face. He put his head in his hands as the house faded away.
He was in the same position he had been in before. The two boys were gone, and everyone else was crowded around him. "Ayden?" Lela asked, worry evident in her voice. "Are you okay?"
Ayden nodded, though in reality, he was no where near okay. "What was that?"
"What was what? You just suddenly collapsed on us, crying. It happened as soon as you looked at the kid."
"I think...I think we found our evil." Ayden said, bowing his head.
The others cast glances at each other. "Are you sure?" Wesley asked, putting his hand on his back.
Ayden nodded. "Positive."
"How can you be sure?" Lela asked, rubbing his hand.
"He showed me my worst memory, made me live it all again. That sounds like an Evil power if I have ever seen one."
The others helped him up. "I think it is best we get out of this town now." Ashlee said.
When they made it back in town, Sam, the Thief kid, was siting at the fountain. He was gulping down water. The other kid was next to him, staring into nothing. The Elements hid behind a stand, trying to listen to their conversation.
"Come now, Nathan. It isn't all bad. You stopped them from taking away the food."
"Sam, you just don't get it. Now I have to live with the burden of his memory now, too."
Sam turned towards Nathan. "Was it that bad?"
"A loss of a loved one."
Sam nodded. "I hope you never have to lose another, Nathan."
Nathan put his hands in front of his face. "What am I, Sam?"
"You are Nathan Humphrey, awesome friend, great caretaker, selfless man, could care less about his own health, etcetera. You are an amazing person, you got that?"
"Not that kind, Sam. I mean, honestly, what am I?"
"You aren't the Evil, that is for sure." Sam said, rubbing his feet.
Nathan nodded. "Yeah, we know that for sure." he mumbled to himself.
Ayden exchanged looks with his fellow Elements. "What? How would they know that?"
"Easy." Nathan mumbled.
"What'd you say?" Sam asked, turning towards Nathan.
"Did he hear us?" Ashlee asked, looking at them.
Nathan nodded. "Yes, I did."
Sam turned to him. "You talk to yourself too much, man."
Nathan closed his eyes. "What is he doing?" Wesley asked, looking at the others.
I think this is working...
"What?" Lela cried out.
Oh good, it is working. It is me, Nathan.
"How are you-"
Just think what you are going to say, don't say it out loud.
'Okay then.' Ayden thought.
'Good job, Ayden.' Nathan said back.
'How do you know his name?' Lela asked.
'When I had him see that memory-sorry about that by the way-I had to look through his mind for that stuff. So, I learned about you guys. At least, what Ayden knows.'
'So you can read minds?' Ashlee thought.
Nathan nodded. 'I can.'
'What are you?' Wesley thought, his tone aggressive.
Nathan didn't respond. He then turned to Sam and started talking again. "I don't think he knows." Lela said, watching him. That is when Ashlee got up and marched over to him.
"Nathan, what are you?" she cried, drawing everyone else's attention.
"Oh dear, looks like the jig is up." Sam murmured.
"We were told never to tell anyone!" A villager cried out. "Especially the Elements."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Wesley asked, whisking out from behind the stand.
The villagers stammered. Nathan stood up. He then held out his hand to Ashlee, and grinned, revealing pearly white teeth. "Hello, fellow Element."
