"I like the collage." Remington thought that was good opener after the semi-awkward silence after the laughter fit ceased. "Thank ya, it's a work in progress." Nicolette nodded, avoiding Remington's eyes. He sat up, leaning into Nicolettes personal space. "Sooo... what'd you and my brothers talk about?"
"Nothing much, just what or who I haven't seen, a brief introduction and smack talking you." Nicolette listed, smiling smugly at Remington. "So, can i expect them over for dinner soon?" The singer asked, smirking a little sadly. Remington didn't think he would feel so pushed aside when or if Nicolette met his brothers, and he felt even worse for being so selfish. It's not like he expected Sebastian- or heaven forbid, Emerson- to steal his dancer away, it's just that Remington didn't want Nicolette to see him as second best.
All his insecurities were burned to little more than ash as Nicolette laughed and shook her head, the butterflies in Remingtons stomach rejoicing. "I don't think they want anything to do with me anymore, I practically threw them out." She explained, miming picking someone up by their collar and tossing them violently. Remington smiled softly at her quirk, how his dancer seemed to talk with her hands when she was comfortable. "Oh yeah?" Remington laughed, taking her hands in his own. He kissed her knuckles as Nicolette nodded enthusiastically.
Her smile faded a little, and fell to a soft, knowing grin. "They really care about you, you know." Nicolette said softly. Remingtons smile fell sharply, and his grip on Nicolettes hands slackened. With renewed vigor, he shook his head and readjusted his grip, so that their fingers were laced together. "Drop it, Nicky." Remington warned, but he didn't let his emotions invade his face. Nicolettes eyes flashed with an intense emotion, and her face hardened. "Why? Why are you avoiding them? They obviously want to-at least- know you're ok." She defended Sebastian and Emerson, reigniting Remington's insecurities. He scoffed and harshly dropped Nicolettes hands. He stood up, leaving the woman wondering why he was so standoffish. "This. Is not your battle to fight!" Remington snapped, biting the inside of his cheek harshly when he saw the look on Nicolettes face.
"Oh. Oh no, you do not get to snap at me! All I have done is try and help you, fuck man, I hid you in my closet." She hissed, standing up and stepping up to the slightly taller man. Remington winced. "I know, I know. I didn't mean..." He weakly muttered, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. Nicolettes eyes flashed and her chin jutted up. She scoffed. "Damn right you didn't mean it. Now, are you going to tell me what's happened, or are you going to continue acting like a child." She forced a false dilemma onto Remington, and he couldn't say he really appreciated it. But, he knew she was just trying to help.
"Fine." He caved, admitting defeat. If he had known that agreeing would have brought such a glorious smile onto Nicolettes face, he would have caved sooner. "Thank you!" Nicolette cheered, grabbing both of Remingtons hands and dragging him to her couch. She crashed into the cushions, and the man she was dragging just barely managed to avoid falling into her.
Remington shifted and laid on his side, submerged in overly plush pillows. He couldn't see Nicolette, his vision was so obscured. Nicolette shifted and laid her head on to Remington's pillow, his breath tickling her nose. She watched as he took a deep breath through his nose and sighed, then said, "Ok, is it all started with-"
The power cut out.
"-with the power going out in an Arizona summer. Fuck."
