A/N 

I was not adopted, so I don't know what it's really like. So this is what I have for dramatic purposes. Deal with it, it's my fic. 

"Laina, I have excellent news!" Mrs. Smith, the orphanage director says.

"What is it?" I ask.

"Someone wants to adopt you!"

"Really? Who?" Mrs. Smith looks like she can barely contain her excitement.

"Tony Stark! He wants to adopt you!"

"What?! Really? Why me?"

"I don't know. But he chose you."

"Wow... when will he pick me up?"

"Later today. Go get your things!" I hurried to my room to grab all the things I thought I'd need. Out of everybody, multi-billionaire genius Tony Stark chose to adopt me. I'm only 10. I think back to the note my mother left me. She said my father was an important man. Maybe he found out that he's my dad. How would he know? Maybe my mother left him something to tell him?

This is so surreal. I didn't think I would ever get adopted, let alone by someone like Tony Stark. He's an avenger. Maybe he'll teach me to fight...

"Hey kiddo," Tony says. I'm still in awe. How do I act around him? He's adopting me, so maybe I should call him dad? Maybe he is my dad?

"Uhm, hi," I say shyly.

"Just gotta sign a few more papers, then you can come with me. Wanna stay and watch?"

"Ok," I say. I sit in the chair next to him, and watch as he goes through seemingly endless papers. But eventually, he finishes, and leads me to his car.

"What do you want to do first, hamburgers, or clothes shopping?" Mr. Stark asks.

"Uhm hamburgers."

"That's what I would have chosen too." We pull into a drive thru and he orders us each a burger. "Now, I should probably warn you that Pepper doesn't actually know that I got you today. We've talked about adopting a kid, but I never exactly told her why I was going out today. So this'll be a big surprise for her."

"She doesn't know?"

"Nope. So now I'm going to buy you a nice dress, and we'll go home and surprise her. Sound good? I'm leaving the rest of getting you your stuff to her. She knows more about that than me."

"Ok."

"You're quiet."

"I guess... I've just never done this before."

"Well, you'll get used to me."

We go out to a store, and buy a dress. Then head back to his house. Which is less of a house and more of a mansion.

"Pep, I'm home!" Tony calls.

"Good, what took you so-" She rounds the corner, and sees me, holding Tony's hand.

"Good news, I got us a kid."

"Tony, you didn't."

"You'll find that I did."

"Oh my gosh..." She walks over, and wraps me in a hug. "What's your name honey?"

"Laina."

"Well, Laina, you're ours now."
