You Don't Choose Your Time
Tony sighed as he awoke at an ungodly hour of the night. Pepper was snoozing slightly beside him. Tony smiled and kissed her cheek before throwing off his covers and standing. No use in trying to sleep now.
The lab was silent. Tony smiled before clapping his hands. "Daddy's home," Tony smiled, "and back in business."
Tony messed around with a few suits and looked at the clock, 4 a.m. He sighed, it had only been an hour. It felt like days. Tony wiped his greasy hands on his shirt before shuffling through other tools. Suddenly, a 'thump' on his window made him jump. Tony's head whipped to the sound.
"Who the hell is it?" Tony was not having the bullshit at this hour. But, then he noticed it was Peter Parker in his Spiderman outfit that Tony had made him. Tony frowned in realization. He was still out being Spiderman. Something must be wrong. "FRIDAY, open window."
Peter fell in and groaned. The window closed with ease.
"Kid, you alright?"
"Um, I think I may have broken something," Peter winced, "or two of something." Tony's face lit up with horror.
"What the hell do you mean?" Tony ran over to the teen and began inspecting him.
"They're after you. I stopped them. They - They said they would kill Pepper and- and you," Peters eyes were getting red, "I couldn't let them."
"Pete, look at me dammit." Peters eyes shot to Tony's. "I will not ever die by the hands of some goons off the streets. Understood?" Peter only nodded. Tears growing. "Come here."
Peter sobbed into Tony's chest.
"We don't get to choose our time, that's what gives life meaning." Tony whispered to the teen.
"You gave me meaning, Mr. Stark."
"Let's get you cleaned up. You should have been home by now. You're lucky it's the weekend," Tony ran hand through his hair, "besides, May will be worried."
Peter let go and took a seat before looking down at himself. "Yeah," Peter sighed.
Tony leant down to examine Peters foot before giving out a huff. "That's gonna need a boot. What's the other problem?" Peter pointed to his wrist. He pulled down his suit, with the help of Tony, and managed to get the top half off. Tony smiled and wrapped the boys wrist. "Nice abs, Underoos. Where the hell did you get those from?"
Peter blushes, "uh, the whole Spiderman thing kinda boosted a lot. I did a lot myself but Spiderman helped a little."
Tony laughed at Peters reddening face. "Nothing to be ashamed of. How do girls not swoon over you?" Tony laughed.
Peter groaned, "Mr. Stark!"
"Haha, I'm kidding with you. Let's get that off of you and some new clothes. A boot too. I'll notify Aunt May that you're staying with me tonight kiddo." Peter couldn't help but smile at his mentor.
