The Afterlife
What did it cost?
Everything.
At least, that's what Peter thought. Every single time that he thought about Tony. His mentor. His father figure.
Natasha. His trainer. His other guidance in life.
Steve. He had died from old age. A long happy life.
That was nine years ago. Now, Peter is twenty-six. Still swinging around in that Spidey costume. Or, in Tony's opinion, his spandex. Peter always gave him a quirky smile because that was the suit Tony made him anyway.
"Pete," MJ grabbed his face, bringing the man to reality. Peters face broke into a smile at his beautiful wife.
"Hey, sorry," Peter cleared his throat. MJ smiled before kissing his cheek.
"It's okay. I'm off to work, better not have to report anything about you tonight, I mean it Pete," Peter nodded at her. She smiled before turning away and making her way to the door, "bye loser." The door shut behind her. Peter smiled at the door for a little bit before a constant beep went off on his watch. Peter had promised . . . shoot.
"What the hell is it now?" Peter grabbed his phone and his eyes almost bugged out of his head. Doc Oc. Again?! Peter frowned and suited up before jumping out of the window and swinging to North Wall St.
Doc Oc was hoping to see the man sporting in red and blue spandex as always. His wish came true when he found the man. A glare and grin came over his face. This was it. The end of Spiderman.
"Come on, Spidey. Let's end this, once and for all." Doc Oc readied his squid-like arms. They clutched in readiness. Peter felt his Spidey-senses tingle. Something was right here. Peter had to assume it was Doc Oc and began to challenge him to an always-seemingly-never-ending-battle. Peter grunted when he slammed into a building. New vans were pulling up. Along with police and SWAT teams. MJ must be down there somewhere, reporting this, as she always hated. This only made Peter fight harder. No matter what anyone said, MJs job was just as hard as Peters.
"Spiderman, it's been one hell of a run with you, it really has." Peter quirked a brow underneath his mask before his senses went into straight up danger mode. Peter felt something slam into his side. A syringe. Peter dropped and withered on the rubbled ground. Something wasn't right. Peter groaned but remembered to take down Doc Oc. Peter had remembered that bomb he had planted in his suit across his chest. It was an emergency tactic. He installed it himself, without the knowledge of Happy or anyone else. It was in case if this. This exact moment. His comm went off right before he could tell Karen to start the bomb.
:.:Peter, what the hell is going on up there?:.: MJs worried voice broke through. Peter smiled sadly at his wife's voice. His forever lover.
"Michelle, I love you. You cannot ever forget that, sweetheart. I- I'm so sorry. I'll wait for you. Forgive me." Peters voice came back through. Peter ended the comm and let out a watery sigh. Doc Oc chuckled as he pulled the hero closer to his own face.
"Spidey, it was truly and honor being your worst enemy," Doc Oc grinned. Peter smiled too.
"Bye, Mr. Criminal!" Peter presses a red button and the bomb exploded. The bomb took the life of both Peter Parker and his sworn enemy.
"PETER!" A pain scream tore through the rumble of the blast. Cops and SWAT teams were pushing everyone back and away from a collapsing building. MJ screamed and cried. Her buddy from behind the camera pulled her away.
1 week later . . .
"Today, we honor our fallen superhero, our savior, Peter Parker. The Spiderman. His wife, Michelle Parker would like to speak," MJ stepped up to the microphone as the half of the city listened in.
"Peter was everything this city needed. Everything I ever needed. We all remember Iron Man, the Tony Stark. He sacrificed his entire life for half of the universe. Peter, he sacrificed himself from a threat that would have destroyed this city and possibly our entire nation. M-Most people say, like father, like son. P-Peter a- . . . always looked up to the man. I never understood how much until now. Stark-Parker industries will be taken over by me. I- *sob* I'm currently expecting a new heir." The crowd awed. May Parker come up behind and held the woman's hand. May whispered soothing words to MJ and removed her from the microphone. They had a funeral to go to.
MJs sobs weren't unnoticed from the people under their black umbrellas as rained poured down. Peters body rested in the casket, softly. MJ sobbed before placing one last kiss on the mans cheek. Just like she had before she left that day. Ned walked around MJ and let his own daughter place a hand on Peters, her uncle Peters. Ned let out a cry before picking her back up and going back by May.
The family all went to the cemetery. The casket would be lowered into the ground. Next to Tony Stark's. His parents' stones next to them. MJ put a hand softly on her stomach that was somewhat plump.
The people in the crowd consisted of mostly friends. Thor. Rocket. Groot. Quill. Gamora. Drax. Sam. Rhodey. Pepper. Morgan. Happy. Flash. Clint. Miles. Wanda. Bruce. Shuri. T'Challa. Bucky. Scott. Doctor Strange. And many more.
The casket was lowered into the ground. Everyone began to leave after the entire thing. Tears were everywhere. You couldn't tell what was tears or rain.
Meanwhile . . .
Peter groaned as he came to. White. That's all he saw. He felt . . . okay? The bomb. MJ! HIS FAMILY! Peter turned around in circles for a while before frowning to himself. He was beginning to become frantic. Until, "Pete?" That voice. He knew that voice. That rough, gentle, calming voice. Peter turned around. There he was. The man himself, Tony Stark. Peter felt tears stinging his eyes.
"M-Mr. Stark?" His young teen voice had seem to come through for that moment. The man couldn't help but smile.
"Hey ki-," Tony was cut off as Peter attached himself to the man. Tony squeezed back. The last time he had saw the kid was . . . in his daze of death. He hugged tighter.
"I've missed you, so much," Peter cried. Tony didn't want to let go. Wait, if Peter was here that meant . . . No.
Tony retracted from the hug and stared at the boy. "Why are you here?! What happened?! Dear god, how old did you get there? You've still got the baby face though."
"I-I had to sacrifice myself . . . Doc Oc was destroying New York. I'm twenty-six. I-I thank you . . . I guess." Peter smiled a bit.
"Sacrifice. Jeez, you couldn't get enough of me? Trying to play hero like your old man now?" Tony smiled but kissed the boys shaggy mop. "God, where did the time go? Nine years without me? Tell me about those years, Pete."
"I'm married to MJ. She was a reporter and Pepper had us take over Stark industries together. Pepper and Morgan are great by the way. Um, Morgan is now fifteen. She's gorgeous. Looks and acts a lot like you. She's definitely got the smarts. Anyway, um I graduated from high school. Went into college for tech, business, bio, and science. It didn't take long, considering I already had enough experience."
"That's great, really kid. Making me proud. I-I didn't want you to end up here so young, though." Tony frowned as he held up Peters chin. Peter smiled sadly.
"Baby Spider?" Peter looked over Tony's shoulder to see Natasha. Peter hurried to look back at Tony for confirmation. Tony hurriedly stepped aside as Peter shot off to Nat. The red head with white at the ends held out her arms and let the man into her arms. Peter gripped at her and Nat smiled.
"Oh god, I've missed you all. I can't - I can't even explain how much I've missed you." Nat let go and looked Peter over.
"Oh how you've grown to be so strong. Training did pay off. Steve!" Nat turned around and Steve came along. Cane smacking the ground as he reached Peter. The twenty-six year old smiled slightly and hugged the man. Steve patted the boy on the back and looked at the three.
"Oh how we cannot forget. Loki!" A black haired man appeared. Peter smile brightened as he practically attacked the man. Loki chuckled a bit before clutching the man.
"It's nice to see you again too, young one," Loki smirked. Peter pulled away and looked at the four.
"Where are we?"
"The afterlife," Nat smiled, "it's peaceful. You also get to imagine whatever you want. Memories."
"Amazing."
"Check on your . . . loved ones." Loki added.
"I can check on MJ? May? Ned and his family? Everyone?"
"Yes," Tony nodded, patting the boys back. A cloud like screen came into view and Peter looked into it. It was MJ. She was . . . at the doctor? Peter curiously looked. That was until realization hit him . . . they were putting gel on her stomach . . . MJ was pregnant!
"S-SHES PREGNANT!" Tony had to catch the hyperventilating Peter.
"Pete, hey, it's okay. Don't worry about it," Tony soothed, "she will be okay. It will be okay. You'll see everything. You'll still be there every step of the way." Peter held onto the man.
"Really?"
"Really. I promise." Peter nodded as he watched the scene before him.
"Come on. Let's show you everything."
Peter Parker. Spiderman. It was all the same. Human. Super human. Either way, he was a hero.
